Igneous : I fear that creativity is something that nobody can teach you. It's over the power of every teacher. The teacher can only teach you method, theory, & ways to practice. To create, you have to practice by your own, & discover yourself what is inside you.. & you never know if you are gonna to love what is inside you...

Important point : Art is rude, very rude. Lof of are good doer.. few are creator. There's different degrees of creativity, & not a single of us decides where he's able to go.. we just do with what nature gives to us.That's the life. The best is to admit what life gives to you..& do with it. Not easy. But easier way to live.

A last point that few consider, because lot of see creativity as a prestige : to be or not to be.... be a genuine creator is an heavier burden that not be one. I mean, who wants dreams has to accept nightmare.. & stronger are the dreams, harder are the nightmares.. all get a price.

About the way to record, you know that a final mix is stereo. So it gets two tracks. The mix procedure consists of convert several tracks inside only two. The best to begin is to start with few tracks. If you are a beginner, start with only 2 tracks. One for rythmical guitar. & one for solo. & listen to what is happening. & after, 3 tracks.. bass, drums or voice... & then 4.. & keep in mind that stereo is a tool.

If you really want to start from the beginning, start with a small analogic tape tascam 4 tracks. This is not an expensive tool. & it will permit an intuive approach quickly. Tascam counts TDKSA 60 tapes as the best ones. If you get your amp, you just need a microphone Shure SM 57. That's the priceless option.

If you prefer directly start onto digital recording, you need a sequencer software, & a Sound card. But to get some basic analogic experience is advised.

Other subject.. you talked about Dazed & Confused... that's onto the first ledzep album.. do you know that Page realized his recording with a 20 watts amp. & the tone is amazing? This never stops to fascinate me. Just a thought.

Hi Joe. I'm finally home near Christchurch (via Auckland & Sydney) after flying to the North Island for G-TARanaki in New Plymouth. You guys rocked! Man, Jeff, Stu & Galen sure are a great band to have up on stage with you. I really enjoyed Club Joe, thank you for signing my Additional Creations CD. Your answer about my question on Andalusia was great - I was transported during your playing of the song, thank you. In reply to your question on who to take on G3 with you - Vernon Reid!!!!! His tone almost set fire to the place!

God bless,

Aaron Clark New Zealand.

REVAN 2008 - how about Australia for a vacation? I don't know what your interests are but you would not be disappointed whatever they are.

Do The Stu - have been listening to ISTLIS but too early to give my opinion, other CD''s still arriving in the mail from ebay so have to compare. From my limited JS collection I guess the SL! set just sums up a heap of his best tunes - it took me all the way from Melbourne to Perth and back to Melbourne this week - a 4 hr flight each way.

General question - what are the chances of a person learning music theory and guitar (from scratch) in their 40's?????? Is there still a chance I could stun all my friends and family with a JS cover??????

Cheers

Wow...I think seeing the X-Files movie at midnight may very well be the nerdiest (non-music) thing I've ever done. It was fun, and I'm glad I went...but wow. So many people were dressing up as characters, which seems kinda odd for a show like the X-Files where most characters wear suits. I've also never understood the need to clap and cheer while watching a movie...so that kinda bugged me.

The movie was great though. I don't know if there are any other X-Files fans here, but I'll wait a bit before saying anything more about the movie.

Joe Satrini - It's late (early?) and I'm way too tired to reply with a list of Satch songs I see, but I'm posting this to remind myself to come up with a list later.

Yeah, I love that whole rhythm toward the end of Time. It's really cool and I almost wish the whole song were built around it, but I like how it's such a change from the first half of the song.

With the specific part I mentioned, though, I'm just referring to the one note Joe is playing. Another one of my favorite Joe notes is from 1:15 to 1:20 in If I Could Fly.

cheese101 - Hehehe...I like how we both replied slightly differently to hybes' question about earplugs. Maybe that means I'm going deaf and you aren't? ;-)

There will be a Saw V...they showed a short teaser of it before the X-Files movie...

Blue_Moon - 2002 would have been the SBM tour. :-)

It's cool to hear that you're an Explosions In The Sky fan. They're one of my favorite newer bands...their live shows are amazing. I'd love to see a video of you playing one of their songs. From your description it sounds like you're talking about Your Hand In Mine...?

And lastly...I don't know how seriously you're considering flying out to the US for a few shows, but if it helps at all I bet you could stay at my parents' house for the night I'm there between Satch shows. They live in Folsom, which is about halfway between Reno and San Francisco. My plan is to go to the Reno show, drive back to Folsom that night to sleep, then leave around noon to get to San Francisco by 2 or 3 for that night's gig. So you could fly into Reno, drive with me to Folsom and then SF for Satch, get a hotel room there on your own that night and fly out of SF the next morning.

SkippyGirl - It's cool to hear that you're getting into ITLIS? I'd love to hear what you think after a few more listens. Let me know once you get other albums, as well... :-)

Do the Stu - you guys did answer a little differently. haha. I think the plugs that I got are probably going to be pretty good. I will give them a test later and let you know if they really perform the way they are designed. If my choice was just the squishy plugs or none I would go with none. There's no way I would muffle out all the good stuff. I thik I will check out the Xfiles movie this weekend. I was a casual fan of the show, but the movie looks very good.

Cheese - ya my wife is not a rocker so getting her plugs really makes sense. She's a champ for going with me though. She likes getting out doing new things even if it's not really her bag. but hey, I do watch at least 2 episodes of TLC's What Not to Wear every week. So, she can deal for one night!!! She tried to play an easy song on guitar hero with the boys one day. That might have been one of the funniest things ever. I wish I had a camera at that moment.

Did anyone happen to catch the setlist for the Paris show that Joe recorded for the upcoming DVD?

Hiya everyone.

I am so glad I had the bright idea of buying up 3 sets of creations and addiitonal creations when they were released, pity I didn't get more. But then I also had the bright idea to ask Joe to sign them. I wonder what a set of creations/additional both signed would fetch on ebay.

For anyone who is interested on my site revamp (well overdue), I discovered Drupal! I am close to having my new updated re-vamped ultra cool "Roos Satriani Collection" site launched. It has really cool blog/rating/search/cross-reference/etc features. If anyone is interested in beta-testing please email me on roo@roo.emu.id.au . But youll need to promise not to spread the URL around for a few days to a week until I launch it officially.

I also just discovered I must have been sleeping under a rock, there are still quite a few bootlegs I havent managed to locate. If you have any of the more difficult to find ones, please email me and we can perhaps sort something out as a trade?

Nice story about ZZ's song...

Joe Satrini (and BigBunny sort of...): You saw the 20 greatest moments prog too? Just cemented for me the belief that with Armstrong we were witnessing the greatest rider on Earth. One day I'd like to wear the yellow jersey...one day it will be mine, oh yes...;-) Interesting theory about the whole chat thing, and thanks for the advice, as I might be getting a HP laptop soon! (although, it would come with Vista, so....well, thanks anyway!) =D

DoTheStu: That Monument Valley must be a nice place, if the DVD is to be believed. Thanks for the Chickenfoot stuff.

LEENZ3: Why not put your songs on Sound Click?

maritime: Thanks for the vid and article! Adds more food for thought

Zenfish: Wow! You sound like a Buddhist....which is good =D You are dead right though, it's not so much trying to sound a certain way, more just stumbling along until whatever is inside comes out. Hmm, thank you very much for those enlightening words of wisdom! Interesting about Page, just goes to show that we don't need these 100000000W amps and so on to really create something amazing. Although a violin bow helps...Page would have to be up there with Joe, Hendrix and Beck for me. Real innovators.

SkippyGirl: I have been playing the guitar 2 years and can play Surfing, Always With me..., Ten Words, Crowd Chant and a some bits of others. That's not be showing off (well...) but you are never too old to learn new things. I decided to learn music theory today, and surprised myself with how much I already sort of know! Go for it, you may well surprise yourself! =D

Hybes: Now, I've never been to a Joe gig (newish fan y'see) but my experience of a few gigs is that ear-plugs are a must. I know one guy in my local music shop who played with Freddy and The Dreamers in the 60's, and is still playing. One problem is that he can't distinguish between 's' and 'f'. Another guy in that same shop has been to a few Joe shows and says ear plugs are a necessity. But, at the end of the day, it's whether you fell comfortable with the volume level at the gig itself, best to take them just in case. I would probably vomit copiously if I was forced to watch 'them'....I admire your courage. =D

I was hoping ZZ would be on stage for at least one song playing the alto sax!

Hey Joe, when is ZZ coming out on stage with Dad! :) Awww Daaaadddd! Please please please please please! :)

Also, there was a nice older lady at the Adelaide gig who started out with earplugs about 3 people back.

She ditched them a few songs in complaining they cut out the high-end and she couldn't enjoy the music enough!

Speaking of Guitar Hero, I found it hilarious that, on a recent episode of Gene Simmon's Family Jewels....he had set up an enormous big screen tv in his Kiss "museum"/office, had two of his Kiss band members there with him, and they challenged Gene's son Nick and his friends to a duel on that game. Nick and his friends were almost flawless when they played, and then up steps Gene and guys...and they pick a Kiss song to play (can u say cheating?)

And GUESS WHAT!!! They failed miserably, LMAO!!! The kids blew em outta the water and they were playing one of their own songs, LOL!! As the kids drifted away to do other things...the three men, looking highly disturbed, turned to each other and said "do u wanna practice?" To which of course they all said yes, and proceeded to continue playing....badly. :)

Really funny, that bit!

Austin, I can't speak to your hearing, but I know mine is suffering from not wearing earplugs, so it's prolly time for me to grow up and use em. Sigh. Nice offer to mckenna too, but u do know he's luni, right?

Stu's cam was stolen!!! Oh no!!! The Barstard

....a new word, invented by a woman exacting revenge on her cheating husband by spray painting his car...'I hope the p***y was worth it you barstard'

(on tv, last night - not me personally I wouldn't do something like that)

Although I do have an ex bf I'm still very peeved about. I liked the suggestion about cutting a potato in half, soaking it in bleach, then arranging them on the hood of his car!!

Listening to Diddle y do dat too....

And a good song it is too...

At lst, inspiration hit me in the face like a wet fish. A combination of Paul Gilbert inspiring me to play and all the mention of ZZ's song led me to record something new! Unfortunately, I can't think of a way to let you hear it at the moment...working on it though.
