Oh cheesey, that Cryin' vid had me gobsmacked again, just can't get enough of his heartfelt tunes. Clicked thru to the vid and explained it to the kids (Oh Mum not another Joe Satriani song!) and they were riveted. Mind you, the only comment after that was "Wow, is he 50??????".

Ibanezguitars, my sister- and brother-in-law play and sing "flamenco" (not what they call it, my term) and they do a whole show of Lorca's songs, which is awesome.

I've been wondering what Satch might do with Lorca's songs, after hearing "Asik Vesyel' and "Andalusia" on PSAMOR.

What do you think?

Hey all,

I've been a fan of Joe Satriani for years. Professionally I am a molecular biologist and the Vice President of Science and Technology for a biotech company. Yeah, just because I'm a science geek doesn't mean I can't rock. I'm also a novelist and just finished my second book, "Rise of the Fallen." This is the follow-up to my first in the series "The Angel of Death and the Demon." The main protagonist in my books is Liam Michaels, a modern day artist and photographer. But he's also Azrael, the immortal Angel of Death. He’s also a Voidmaster and can move through and control the multiple dimensions of the Multiverse. The premise is that terrorist groups are not lead by humans, but rather demons and fallen angels.

In the latest book I decided to introduce Liam's brother, the archangel Uriel. Uriel goes by the name of Joey Terelli. Since Liam can be a bit serious, I wanted Joey to be a bit edgy. Common thought when writing a character is to find someone in the real world who resembles your character. In the case of Joey Terelli, I chose Joe Satriani. Like Joe, Joey is a world reknown virtuoso guitarist. Several of Joe’s songs are actually described in the novel including Flying in a Blue Dream, Midnight, Echo, and Why. Below, I've included a synopsis. I'll post an excerpt in a separate message.

The reason I'm writing her is I'd like to send Joe a copy of the book. He’s probably never thought of himself as a "killer" angel. Does anybody have an address where I can send the book? If you have information, please email me at dmichaelolive@gmail.com. By the way, you guys and gals should read the book when it comes out in October. Maybe there’s more to Satch than you know.

Synopsis: A leading U.S. bioweapons scientist dies of an unexplainable neurological disease. A mysterious cocaine factory operates out of a Swiss chocolate factory, guarded by highly trained combat troops. Chechnya is destroyed with thermobaric bombs after an outbreak of a bioterrorist virus. And the beautiful but enigmatic CEO of a biotechnology company fights off a take-over attempt by a sinister Boston investment group. Unrelated as these events may seem, Liam Michaels, an artist, photographer—and the immortal Angel of Death—recognizes the insidious moves of fallen angels and he must act quickly to stop the rise of the Fallen.

Here's the excerpt I promised from my novel "Rise of the Fallen." Joe Satriani, aka, Joey Terelli is not someone to mess with.

Setting:Joey has accompanied his brother Liam to a restaurant after his concert. Liam is accompanied by a woman, Dani Suskind, who knows of Liam's nature as an angel. They've just left the restaurant and are heading for their car.

Excerpt: As they reached the corner of Belden and Kenmore, a group of five wannabe men wearing the gang colors of the Insane Deuces came toward them.

“Well, well, what have we here?” Joey asked.

“Hey, hotshot, looks like you brought us dinner and some recreation,” said a young man wearing a red backward-facing baseball cap. He had his hands in his jacket pockets and although surrounded by his gang mates, he looked nervous.

“Oh, I don’t think so, fellas,” Joey said. “I’m afraid you’d get a major case of indigestion. Besides, you look sick.”

“Why the hell you say that, man?” Red Cap said. He stomped his feet, pulled a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver, and waved it at Joey.

“Now that’s not a toy that someone like you should be playing with, junior. Especially when you’ve got a serious condition like a recto-cranial inversion.”

“What the hell’s that mean?”

“Liam, does she know?”

“Yep.”

“Mind if I do the honors?” Joey asked, a sinister grin on his face.

“By all means.”

“A recto-cranial inversion means your head is up your butt.” Joey didn’t wait for a reaction. Instead, his left hand shot out, grabbed the gun, and pushed it down toward Red Cap’s groin. He sent a spear hand to the gang member’s throat. Joey twisted the gun with both hands, jerking it loose, and tossed it to Liam. He grabbed Red Cap by the front of his shirt and lifted him high over his head with his left hand. He grinned and looked at the other four spellbound men.

“Hey, you guys wanna see a magic trick?” Joey said. “I can make fluster-butt here disappear.” Joey raised his right hand, which began to sparkle like black and gold glitter as he moved his spread fingers toward Red Cap and touched the side of his head. The man’s face began to turn black flecked with gold glitter and distorted like it was being sucked up by a powerful vacuum cleaner. Red cap’s face stretched like a flaccid piece of rubber and disappeared into Joey’s hand. Steadily, his entire head, torso, and legs dissolved and disappeared into Joey’s hand like dust being vacuumed from the floor. Joey’s hand returned to normal, and he licked his fingers. Closing his eyes, he sucked in a deep breath and turned to the other four gang members. “Mmm, finger licking good.” His face broke into a wide grin. “Who’s next?”

The gang members took off down Kenmore. Joey turned to Dani, watching him wide-eyed. Liam smiled and shook his head. “Dani, I’d like you to meet my brother, the archangel Uriel.”

GGG, I don't have any pics of Joe letting me play Chromeboy's whammy bar, but I did find video where you can see Joe getting just the right angle for me to snap a picture of him playing with his teeth. That night was so much fun! What a killer show!

edit: HA! I forgot to post the video link.

Okay, found it picture of Joe playing with his teeth :-)

Here's the whammy picture. Cheese actually printed this pic out and had Joe sign it for me. He wrote "Play my whammy!" LOL!! (luv dat T-Bones!)

I wonder if Joe has ever been to Alaska?

I went to Taco Bell for dinner tonight. While I was there, someone was complaining to have the air conditioner turned off because "it's colder in here than it is outside." ::sigh:: How dare the inside of a restaurant be cooler than the outside temperature in Southern California in the middle of summer.

Tuesdayschild - Cool...Freedom Of Speech is one of my favorite LTE songs, behind Osmosis (No. 1) and maybe Universal Mind.

What Explosions In The Sky album did you buy? I love that band...but I bet you know that because I was probably the person talking about them here.

Within Temptation is very cool. I saw them open for Lacuna Coil last year and they were a very pleasant surprise. They were really blown away by how much attention they got at some tiny club in Hollywood. I can't wait to see them again next time they tour the US.

It's good to hear you like DT's Train Of Thought. That one is pretty hit and miss with their fans. I love it, but it took me several listens to finally "get" the album. Let me know what you think of Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence, which would be your next album if you keep working backwards. That's my favorite DT album.

GODGUNSGUITARS - Thanks for the update...it's good to hear from you. :-)
rololol - Joe explains the story behind I Just Wanna Rock in the podcasts...basically it's about a robot coming across a rock concert and interacting with/reacting to the fans.
DrMikey - You've got mail...
michelle - I can't see those photos...it looks like they're in a private album. Can you either give us the password or make them public?
Listening to: U2 - October [2-CD remastered edition] (current song: Stranger In A Strange Land)

This remaster is just as good as the Boy remaster I posted about a few days ago. The bass is much more present, which is very nice. The recording as a whole sounds much fuller than the original. This is especially noticeable on the title track... I'm not onto the bonus disc yet, but it's a bunch of live stuff that I expect to be very cool. Maybe I'll post about it later...

...Austin...

Hi Joe,

BRISBANE CONCERT 17th July 2008

I am pretty devastated I didnt get to see you in Brisbane. I had FOUR tickets to your Brisbane concert, it would have been the first time I'd seen you live.

First of all the people who I was going with had a death in the family 2 days before the concert and naturally didnt want to go. So sad.

I was all set to go with another friend but woke up on the day with a massive head cold, head was exploding, nose streaming, coughing, aching and sneezing .. UGH.

I was, and am, SO disappointed. FOUR tickets just sitting there and I couldnt go :o(((

Hope to have the chance to see you in Australia, and specifically Brisbane, some time again soon ..

a very big fan .. fenella

Hi Joe. Yes i know its been over 2 months since the Belfast gig but i'm lazy.

It was a long wait, 21 years since i heard "surfing", but i was worth it. Fantastic concert, the first 10 minutes i just sat in the balcony grinning like a cheshire cat. My son wasnt pleased that he couldnt come, he's only 5 but is already a Satch fan.My wife loved the concert even though she isnt a big fan of instrumental rock but said she will go again if you come back to Belfast. You are coming back i hope.

Anyway thank you for a wonderful concert and making my jaws sore from all the grinning lol. Hope to see you again soon in Belfast.

Thank you

I'm quite an uneven spaniard, I rather prefer Blues than Flamenco, though both are quite the same in what they mean to transmit, the acking of the soul.
Poetry has always been an inspiration to musicians, don't know if Lorca could inspire something to Joe

Revan: Why not buy Rush In Rio? It's a two disc live concert that has many many songs on it, most (if not all) of the classics plus and amazing Brazilian crowd! The dvd is great as well. =D

I recently quit my job in a guitar shop and a customer once told me that he’d seen Satriani play a few years back and in the middle of the gig Joe said “I love my job” and a shock went through the audiences spines, most of whom I imagine did not like their jobs. I told my mum and she reminded me that during the fist week of working in the guitar shop I came through the door one evening carrying a life-size cut-out of Joe Satriani saying “I love my job.”

I really like Joe Satriani I prefer his style of instrumental rock to other musicians such as Steve Vai because Joes music has a groove to is unlike many musicians who are too widdley

I just came back from IGFs famed summer school where I had the most amazing time. I was studding “Jazz and Beyond” with Dario Cortese, who is without a doubt the greatest guitar player I have ever met, I mean this guy can play any genre better that the players who are supposedly “the best.” While there I saw some amazing musicians play. Amongst which was Matt Schofield whose smooth style of Jazzy Blues is captivating live. He also happens to be a really nice guy and we had a good laugh together about the food served in the canteen (the less said about the food; the better!) The night that Matt played Sherman Robertson was on stage as his guest. In short he was amazing and he really knew how to play the crowd! After the gig I shook his hand and thanked him for his performance and explained that for me it was like watching Stevie-Ray Vaughan play and that despite his untimely demise I still consider him to be one of my biggest influences. Then Sherman gave me a hug and said that “its funny you should say that because I taught S.R.V for two years.” Needless to say I was blown away! I had the time of my life last week and I met some really nice people. It was really weird tough because when you’re on stage playing some improvised Jazz solo you start recognising people in the crowd and its really distracting. You think to yourself “wait a minute; I’ve seen that guy on You-tube or in an article of Total Guitar. I kept bumping into this guy throughout the week and we kept saying “hi” to each other and after a few days I realised that it was Neville Martin; the Editor for Guitar Techniques magazine!
