I've been listening to Deep Purple's Purpendicular (their first album with Steve Morse) in my car for the past few days. Does anyone else have it? What do you think? It's a bit different for Deep Purple, obviously, but I think it's a great album...probably in my top five for them.

campbell - Yeah, Live are awesome. I'd say I was only a casual fan before seeing them in concert. I only had Throwing Copper, but I was also pretty familiar with Secret Samadhi and I know the singles from Birds Of Prey. After seeing them I'd say I'm pretty hooked...I'm going to pick up the rest of their discography next time I'm at a good record store.
tetrasonicwave - You haven't really posted here very often, so I don't really know what to say...but we'll be here if you ever decide to come back. ;-)
alexandrecaetano - Hi...it's good to hear from you again. I'm doing OK...work is really busy, but we hired two new people that are pretty cool. So that makes things a bit more tolerable.

Other than that, I guess I've just been watching Joe's US tour dates creep in one by one. I don't know if you've seen my recent posts here, but I plan on going to the San Diego, Los Angeles, Reno, and San Francisco shows. It'll be awesome... :-)

What's new in your life? New job? New music?

Igneousiceman - Yeah, it stinks that I didn't really know about that gig. Even if I wouldn't have been able to make my way inside, I've walked by the venue while shows are going on and you can hear things pretty well just outside the back door. So that would've been fun. Argh... ;-)
REVAN 2008 - You're thinking of the Long Beach Grand Prix, yeah? That takes place just a few blocks south of me. Go look at the map I posted earlier. Follow Pine Avenue (the street the venue I mentioned is on) south until you hit Shoreline Drive.

The start/finish line is on Shoreline Drive just east of Pine, near Rainbow Lagoon. The course goes to the west along Shoreline, turns left at Aquarium Way, right at Queensway and right again back onto Shoreline, left onto Pine, right onto Seaside Way and right back onto Shoreline.

Long Beach is its own city, but it's a part of Los Angeles County. Residents in a lot of other cities in LA County will just describe themselves as being "from LA," but Long Beach is one of the few cities that has a pretty strong identity on its own.

Also, as of a few years ago, it was the most racially diverse city in the United States. So that's pretty cool...

roo - Ah, cool. It's nice to see Stu mixing things up a bit, I do have to say. I think it's funny how I can listen to any of his solos over the last 20 years and guess the structure with about 80%-90% accuracy. ;-)

Thanks again for all of your comments...I look forward to hearing about Brisbane.

dream3 - Thanks for the inside info about the JS20th guitar. Interesting...crazy chrome.

Hi everyone, I just joined as a member...longtime fan though.

Because I'm new here and don't know the current discussion buzz, you may have heard about his already. A friend of mine just turned me on to a musician on YouTube who is so incredibly talented, it's frightening.

Check out this cat called the "Cellonator"...he plays electric cello and he rips through some of Joe's coolest songs-"Surfin" and "Always with me always with you".. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FlGBMAgDGUU http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9fDUIV5XkGo&feature=related

Then search a few of his others--VH's "Eruption" (It's SICK) and Hendrix's version of the Star Spangled Banner. WOW!

Anyway, Joe...I would love to see you put the Cellonator on the G3 bill, even if it's just as a guest 15 minute spotlight...He plays with incredible feel on top of his mind-blowing technique.

I love your melodies, Joe...they have always has been my favorite part of your playing. You are truly blessed.

Jack

Revan: Thanks! Lancashire's ok, there are good bits like Bowland and Pendle etc. but also areas with a not so good reputation, if you know what I mean...Anyway, I only went to Lancaster once when I was small so don't remember much. LIverpool's very nice, waterfront, shops and scousers! Great mix. I take it you play GRID? It's a bit hard for me, although the flashback thing is pretty cool. Do you play it on PC, 'cos if so we could organise a race sometime. Small prob with the pub recommendation, it would just be water or orange juice for me...not quite that old yet. =D

Jack Actually: I second the 'Cellonator' thing, it would be great to get some instrumental diversity into the whole G3 thang. =D

Maybe the whole chat prob is down to different firewall/ antivirus manufacturers?? Y'know, maybe McAfee or Norton just don't like Joe.... Maybe those having probs should try a new one like AVG, or Zone alarm. Both get good magasine reviews.

So, after the last few shows, I thought I was getting really far through getting my collection signed, but I came home to rifle through things, expecting to only find Vinyl left to sign.... I cant believe Ive managed to get another 20 or so cd sleeves still not signed! Bloody heck, I didnt realise I had so much of this stuff.. Half of it is not even on the web site.

I have got a massive job ahead rebuilding the new site with scans of all the signed items after this.

And still no one has responded about Brisbane. Geez. Im not looking for a date for cryin out loud, I just want to know whos going.

So it has begun....I told my wife i wanted to buy the JS 1000 and Guitar Center here has 1 in stock. (funny how they always say they only have 1 in stock). Anyway, she said fine. She wanted to see it so I showed her on the website....then she saw the price! Thought she was about to pop a vessell. So that didn't go over so well. We didn't make the trip to guitar center. Now comes the long patient journey of working on her for months. =) I will agree it's a lot of money to drop on a guitar. Certainly can't argue that point. Wish me luck!

Igneousiceman - It is odd for a Satch fan to be listening to Frank, but in my opinion, frank belongs in every catalog!

Live CD/DVD To Chronicle Police Reunion Tour

As expected, the Police plan to release a live CD and DVD from its reunion tour later this year. Drummer Stewart Copeland tells Billboard.com the group filmed and recorded two shows, Dec. 1-2 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for the projects, which are due out later this year.

"Those rockin' Argentines -- man, are they noisy," Copeland recalls. "It was a pretty exciting show." The DVD will also include a documentary about the tour, titled "Better Than Therapy" and directed by Copeland's son, Jordan, who the drummer calls "a much better filmmaker than me.

"He totally gets right under our skins, the little bastard, and his analysis of the group is better than any I've seen," says Copeland, who turned his home movies into his own film called "Everyone Stares: the Police Inside Out."

He adds that in the documentary, "it's unbelievable to see the early rehearsals compared to where we're at now. Some of them were so raw we had to take them out, some of the scenes. But he's still got the nitty gritty there, with us each grappling with the reality of life in the band again."

Copeland reiterates that there will be no life for the Police after the tour ends on Aug. 7 at a benefit for New York public TV stations at Madison Square Garden. "It was always planned as a very finite thing," Copeland says. "In the back of our minds there was the possible 'Who knows? Maybe if some new material comes up or something like that, you never know...' But the mission has always been finite."

But it's not like the Police didn't roll any tape during their time together. Copeland confirms that he, singer-bassist Sting and guitarist Andy Summers made an unsuccessful attempt at recording a new version of "Truth Hits Everybody" from the trio's 1979 debut album, "Outlandos d'Amour." The song was played at a much slower tempo live during the reunion tour.

"We went into the studio, laid down a backing track and immediately disagreed about where to go with it," Copeland recalls. "And since there wasn't an audience cheering at us ... it just kind of withered on the vine."

Copeland has done some solo projects during the tour, including a five-note melody for Blackberry's new Bold model and a violin piece. He's currently finalizing a commission "with a major orchestra to write a major concerto" after the tour ends. "It's sort of like Sting's lute thing -- so gay, but OK," Copeland says. "Real uncommercial, career suicide moves is probably what you'll be seeing from the three of us over the next year or two before we get back into the business of earning a living from our music."

Joe - on Podcast 8, from 0 - 1.23, and 1.24 - 2.22, are those little snippets of music from you? If so, are they something you're writing or just some incidentals or?

Alexandre - definitely a cool photo, nice one!

Dream 3 - I'm always ducking for stuff, and I'm only 6ft. So far I haven't seen any nasties in the wild that I can think of, but I did get jelly fished last time I was down. I love Aus, gonna have to come back real soon.... and OH NO, Ibanez have produced another LTD edition JS that has problems!?

Anibur - ah, ok, possibly not as exciting as I was expecting but interesting all the same. I thought maybe you'd drawn it. I'd love a copy if you wouldn't mind. It has a very reconisable guitar on it.... thanks

Revan2008 - I am a big fan of GOOMY, but SFBADR is equally brilliant. I think what swings it for me is the opening of GOOMY. But it's a close call

Do The Stu - thanks for the welcome back. I don't dare take a holiday this year LOL. I think I'm roughly caught up.I should be able to search out your SC post, and then run the CD, but if you want to post the link cool. See if I can see what you see if you see?

Is Balance the last good album, or is it just the live stuff that's gone to pot?

Igneousiceman - thanks for the tip on different AV etc. The reason for breaking out the test PC was in order to be able to disable all firewalls, AV etc and then if something came through (which surprisingly it hasn't) it didn't matter if the PC got trashed. Disabling everything didn't help one bit hence my assumption it's something different.

Cheese - as someone else has suggested, maybe certain members are banned from chat LOL

Something's crashed on my computer and the mouse is missing. What should I do now?

That envelope in Joe's hand is a Birthday Card I had just given him. It was my handing of the card to Joe that led to the announcement in the room of Joe's Birthday, which led to the singing.
What a special night that was.

MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT in our house. I purchased tickets on a radio station pre-sale for Joe's October 8th show in Edmonton. I was going to take my 11 year old son to his very first concert. When I purchased the tickets I looked to see if there was an age restriction of which none was listed. Now that the pre-sale is over and the regular sales have started they have changed it on Ticketmaster to a 18 and older only event. My son is was very upset when I broke the news to him that he could not attend. This venue runs a lot of all age events including a heavy metal event the week before but this is one of the few events that the have desinated as a adult only event. He had asked for and received a guitar for Christmas and is really into Joe and his style of music we are just very sorry that he won't be attending :(

Jack Actually - Hi...welcome to the site. Tell us a bit about yourself...

Joe Satrini - I'd have to go back and watch the podcast to be sure, but I do remember hearing clips from what I assume are other bands (the opening bands he's talking about in the podcasts).

My SC comments were in two posts. Click here and here.

As far as Van Halen goes, I'd say it's only the recent live stuff that sucks. Balance is a great album. A few years later they did III with Gary Cherone on vocals. A lot of people don't like that one, but I'd say it ranks in the top half of Van Halen's albums for me. It's different, but good. The tour for that album was a pretty good one too, so I've heard. Gary sang some older DLR-era stuff that Sammy never did.

Phil - i mentioned you to Joe...i said 'Phil in the UK wanted to know if you his stuff' i said this whilst going through the messages to picis of my painting before it was finished. i'm pretty sure Joe said 'oh yeah' I can't quite remember what he said but it was in the afrimative(sp?) >=:) I told him you'd given him a message for me earlier on in the year with a pici. of the painting unfinished (i said that as i was showing Joe the painting) I really like country guy, he's growing on me...even though he looks a bit miffed/tired. but that's how Joe was feeling, mustn't of had much sleep cause he travelled a long way.

roo thanx man >=:) don't worry if you don't remember, I thimpk too much :P did you catch the pick? I was at the FREO gig by myself man...there's nothing too it, you're there to see Joe not to talky talky ;P

Iggy I hope you don't mind me calling you that, saves me remembering a whole bunch of letters. I didn't see Evans crash...we only get ~2hrs live coverage a night here. if we are lucky 4. the mountains are the best to watch O_o the crowds pi$$ me off though, the way they get right in the riders face :/ i'm all for cheering and that but some spectators are a hazard. why arn't they marking out the raised islands better? there's been some crashes because of those...a bit of neon orange on them would help.

jamie Ok i just remebered because of the link being posted for the new Js 20th and the 20s Satch wont be playing the 20th onstage :( :( he just uses it in the dressing room for warming up the silver surfer is mucking with the sound of the guitar and also the chrome is coming of bit of info from my buddy Mike Manning ..
Bigbunny - See if u didnt mention that Joe didnt play the guitar in freo i wouldn't have asked. THANKS. :)
