First concert I saw was January 17 1996. Joe Satriani tour, Metro, Sydney.

Can anyone confirm that Joe himself decideed not to use the silver surfer JS20th on this tour as it interfered with his sound or his playing?

Can a lister that next meets him please ask?

Hello Everyone !!!

Hello especially to Tracie (cheese 101). I believe I may have figured out the mystery behind the broken chat. DO NOT update flash player to version 9.0.124.0

I just downgraded my flash player back to version 9.0.47.0 and it started working again!!! I'm happy again. Looks like it was a compatibility issue all along. Let me know if this worked for anyone else too.

Later everyone...P.S. Jenna says HI.

Hi Tony....please give sweet baby Jenna a hug from auntie cheese, still hoping to see some pics when u have a minute to breathe, lol....new parenthood, ain't it grand. :)

Thanks for the tip....but I already downloaded the new flash...so now where do i go to download the old one again? I looked around the adobe site but could only find a download to the newest version. I'd like to try the older version and see if that works....sigh.

I wish webby Jon would just do his magic and fix the chat again. Feeling awfully neglected here.

Chelle....of COURSE it's the Guitar whammy. You have an autographed piccy to prove it ;) When Joe was signing it for you, he told me he remembered right when you took that pic :) I think he had fun that night too, lol!

PLAY MY WHAMMY!!! Yep....words that shall go down in history :D

Tracie, just do a google search for flash player 9.0.47.0 and you should find the download (.exe) file. Installing it should overwrite the other one. That's how it worked for me!

(I hope you still have my photobucket link. I had just enough time to download one picture of Jenna. I made a new album too. She's seven weeks old now.)

If all else fails, let me know perhaps I can e-mail it too you. I always keep a copy of the previous version for backup...

Just found out that version 9.0.115.0 also works. (The 9.0.47.0 version seemed to work faster for me.) Here's an old link I found too: http://www.oldapps.com/Macromedia_Flash_Player.htm

REVAN 2008 - Thanks for the info on Stone Roses. I just looked them up on Wikipedia...I guess they broke up a while ago but I had never heard of them. Thanks for the album and song suggestion...I'll dig around and see if I can find some good sound clips.

michelle - "oi! His GUITAR whammy, people! Though now that you put it that way"

Haha! At Joe's gig at the Hollywood Guitar Center, someone asked him to demonstrate his whammy dive/pull-up. And at some points, well, it looked like Joe could have been grabbing something other than his whammy bar...hehe. I recorded some of Joe's songs, and most of the talking between them, but I had turned my camera off by the time this happened. I wish I would have recorded it though...it was great. ;-)

nickguitarmeistro - I looked around and I can't find those videos on my computer. BUT...I found a rehearsal video that was part of the same webcast, so I think what I must have done is burn the videos of the actual concert to a CD. That CD is probably in a box somewhere around here, mixed in with some of my old college stuff.

It'll take some time, but I'll find them eventually. And it'll be sooner rather than later, because all this talk about Satch shows makes me mad that I missed the tour these videos are from. ;-)

I still need to buy John Petrucci's solo album. I don't know why I've been putting it off...I guess it's because I have a good bootleg or two of some of the G3 2001 shows.

It's cool that you got to see Robert Fripp...I'd love to see him do a G3 tour in the US again. I don't know if it'll happen though, because it seems unfortunately the crowds aren't all that receptive to him. If I get a moment to talk to Joe at one of the gigs in November maybe I'll ask him about that...or maybe he can answer if he happens to be reading this now. ;-)

Mahavishnu - Awesome...thanks for posting that.
serbiagini - Cool photos...I think this one is my favorite.
cheese101 - Go here to download the older Flash.

For future reference, http://www.oldversion.com/ and http://www.oldapps.com/ are awesome websites.

Aaand, it looks liks jsTony just posted the same link I did above. But I typed this before I saw his post, so I'm just going to leave it. ;-)

Almost forgot, hey Iggy,it wouldn't be impossible to organise the mass jam, how many people do you think would show up in the UK to play a Satch cover?

Anybody care to estimate how many people in Aussie cities would show up to play guitar, drums, bass, for a Joe song?

Do the Stu : I don't know Lang. Kenny.. i've been first delighted to hear something like a resurrection of Stevie's attack inside his playing.. but have been quickly disappointed by the lack of creativity.

About Stevie, i could express the thing differently : I miss him terribly. & there's no blues player come after him who fills this dearth. Take care.. i don't say they are no good.. ok?

Now, i just can cry listening to The Wall of Denial

Yesterday, i was listening to Howlin' Wolf. So great. All is already here.

There's currently for me only Beck that really gets out of the old fomats of Blues & Bluesrock. His approach of Blues onto Who Else & You Had it Comin is very experimental & straight ahead our time. That's just what i need. I prefer to listen to this two albums than still & still listening the eternal same structures comin again & again. & sometime i go back to

Roy Buchanan

But it's just me.

the other weird thing about the stone roses is most people i ask always say they prefer the 1st album-but when asked they've never listened to the 2nd (second coming) so i guess the reviewers really did a hatchett job on it. you might not like the vocals-you might really like them.

But also give Tightrope a listen-love the lyrics to that song.

I've seen a lot of messages lately about everyone's experience seeing Joe live. I must say I'm impressed and envious! I sure wish Joe was able to make Oklahoma a regular stop. But hey! On a positive, I will finally get to see him in November. The day after the show, I'll update my list of how many times I've seen joe!! =)

Has anyone heard anything about a G3 next year? I have never really heard much John Petrucci. Would anyone recommend a starter?

Soul To Strings...... Yeah, I have a JSX head. Look at my Fender forum post. It's the best amp I've ever owned. I don't have the amp knowledge you have or used a lot of tube amps you've listed in the forum.......but I know what sounds good......and to me and for me it's the best amp. You can play anything with this amp.....Blues,Metal,Rock Country......it doesn't matter it's all in there. The controls are so responsive. You just move any knob slightly and you can hear a tonal change. Perfect for Tweak Heads. Not like the old Bandmaster days where say 5 to 10 isn't much of a change. On the back there's effect send/return jacks each with there own level control, a line out with level, tube biasing hole. Plus if you take the back plate off there's a switch on the chassie to change from 6L6's to EL34's. I haven't done this yet cuz I love how sounds. Joe also added a functional noise gate that's adjusted on the front. The channel footswitch has three switches and a interesting twist with channel led's and switching. First off the manual channel switch on the front pannel has to be set to Ultra for the footswitch to function properly. There's no led for the Crunch channel....only Effects,Clean and Ultra. You normally depress the channel you want to use and going from Crunch to Ultra works just like that. With the Crunch not illuminated and the Clean (green led) off you know your in Crunch. Depressing the Crunch switches to Ultra(Red led) Here's where it gets interesting. Say your in the Clean channel and you want to go to Ultra and you look down and the Crunch/Ultra's led is not on.(Crunch) You can depress the switch to go to Ultra(Red led) because you have to depress the Clean channel to switch to Ultra/Crunch. This takes time to get use to but when you really look at it. It's a pretty clever design. This amp does and has everything you need. If your in the market for a tube amp. You have to check this beast out. I think you're gonna love this amp. Check out the 167 customer reviews here

My signed JSX head here

Ibanezguitars......Hi Joan. How are you today? Yes, you can't deny Clapton's influence from the Blues. It's in his blood and he always returns to the Blues. In my early days learning it was Clapton and Hendrix that inspired me. The Layla and Electric Ladyland albums were the musical bibles for me along with The Allman Bros. Live at the Fillmore East. Landmark alums for sure. Hugs to you.

Have A Great Day Everyone

Michelle ..... You're right John Petrucci certainly is the king of riffage. His guitars are so low and crunchy....Tunnel Vision is kick ass lol. And honor thy father as well! Awesome stuff. The Glass Prison is another fave of mine too!!

Do the Stu.....yeah I the crowd wasn't that receptive at all towards Rob Fripp, I think I'd appreciate him a lot more these days than when I saw him :-) The way I remember it was him at the back of the stage, you couldn't really see him that well... and he was kind've playing his guitar through a synth for a while. But no offence to him saying that!

Skippygirl....I'm sure I could turn up to play a mass satch cover....sounds like a logistical nightmare though getting it all together!

Zenfish - Jonny Lang is a few years younger than KWS. I think he's just as good of a guitarist as KWS. I get what you say about him lacking some creativity, and I think there's more variety in JL's music. It doesn't have the "wow" factor that some KWS does, and at first listen you might think JL is more of a singer than a guitarist, but if you see him live he's really great. I'm actually going to see him tomorrow.

If you're interested, check out Lie To Me (his first single, you may have heard it 10 or so years ago)...if you get impatient, the solos are at 1:30 and 3:00. And then check out this clip of him jamming with Buddy Guy...although I guess it's more Buddy than Jonny.

hybes - I haven't heard anything about a G3 next year, but I wouldn't be surprised to find we don't get one (at least not in the US). If the past few years are any indication, it seems Joe does a solo album one year, and then a "something else" the next. I think Chickenfoot might be the "something else" this time. So we'll get that album late this year or early next, a tour next summer, and then maybe Joe's next solo album in late 2009 or early 2010? Of course, I'm just guessing.

John Petrucci is the guitarist for Dream Theater (not sure if you knew that)...most of his albums are with them; he only has one solo album. He wrote entirely new music before the G3 2001 tour. So that stuff is on this album recorded a few years later, along with some other things.

I'm not sure if you know much Dream Theater, but think Yes+Rush+Metallica+Iron Maiden and you'll get an idea of what they're about. My introduction to his playing was through Liquid Tension Experiment, an instrumental side project that's 3/5 of Dream Theater with Tony Levin of King Crimson on bass/chapman stick. LTE may be the best place to start.

If you want to email me (my address is in my profile), I can send you a few different MP3s so you get a taste of his playing.

silvio gazquez - Hi...welcome to the site! What are some of your favorite Satriani songs?
