Revan: I know what you mean, when I was about 6 or 7 I went up Snowdon wearing a headband. Yes, a HEADBAND!!! What was I thinking?!?!? =D

Matt: Good hunting, bag yerself a Signature! =D

DoTheStu: Yes, I am now off out hopefully to get an Eric J cd, if my depleted funds will allow it. Is that the new remastered U2 one? Haven't listened to Boy or War much personally, I seem to end up listening to 'Unforgettable Fire', 'October' and 'Joshua Tree'. What did you think of 'How To Dismantle...'? Personally I really only liked Vertigo, but that's just me...=D

And to add my voice: Whammyfreak, I would say personally that it is the ol' whammy bar itself, 'cos I can get slightly similar sounds out of mine.

But if something does get done i will be sure to come along and check it out Fed square is a quick train ride away :) :)

By the way great name for a pub :)

Roo - Dunno about confiming but about the Js 20th SS i was talking to Mike M at the Melb shows and i asked Mike if Joe would be playing it cause BigBunny from Satriani.com mentioned he didnt use it live and Mike told me he only used it to warm up i was kinda bummed as i wanted to get a pic of joe playing that guitar and he went on to tell me well nah he wont use it live cause its doing things with the sound and also the chrome is peeling from the guitar and anyway sure enough just prior to Joe coming on Mike walkerd over to the right of the stage disappeared then next minute started walking back with the 20th put it on the rack and out came satch with the standard js1200ca

Would be cool if Joe could give us his version let us know if he will be using it in the future or if it will just end up in the Vault with the other Beauties :) :) :) :) .

When i die i am coming back as a Js prot so i can live with Joe and the family :) :) :) :)

Hey everyone, thanks very much for all the input. I was pretty sure that it was the Whammy Bar because I got a similar sound out of it by having my bro push on the string at the nut as I plucked the notes.

Plus I agree that using a pedal at that tempo would be extremely difficult if not impossible. Think about the ankle workout that would take...lol...no wonder it sat around for so long! JK

I guess I'm gonna just have to go out and get me a guitar with a Whammy Bar on it here soon, which brings me to another question which i would appreciate some input on.

The only guitar that is in my price range is a Squire Stratocaster Bullet Series with Tremolo Bar, I hear lots of good things about that line of guitars, could I get some personal experiences, references?

Right I'm playing on an old Ari Pro II that I got from a friend, good guitar and all but no Tremolo Bar so Just looking around.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks WhammyFreak

I agree - a few on that list of albums were surprising and I disagree with their formula. But it was fun to review though.

Aggressive? Are you referring to the liberal / conservative post?

I received it and figured I would post here for fun. I am not trying to stir the pot or trying to offend.

Good Morning Satchland....... How is everyone?

Samsquanch/DoTheStu..... Well,I don't know for sure and don't want to mislead anybody. When Joe came through Chicago for the GC meeting we were told Joe would signed only endorsed items so I'm assuming that's how it is. This maybe different with an after show meet as it's more private and not hyped by corporate executives.......if you catch my meaning. Knowing Joe the way we all do I'm sure he wouldn't mind signing anything a fan brings.....but if your under contract.....you must follow what the contract states. I hope this clears things up a bit, Thanks.......

JS1200.....Well they've lowered the temps to the mid 80's so that's not so bad. Still gonna be hot ......but not scorching.....Chicago EH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zen......How you doing? Hendrix was definitely a head of his time. 2008 marks the 40th anniversary of Electric Ladyland. Guitar World or Guitar Player has a big article on the recording from the business side and from the studio side. There was a lot of problems through out the process some with Jimi some with Chaz Chandler. They talked a lot about how Jimi had the record in his head and how he wanted it to sound. Eddie Krammer did a marvelous job on this record. He came up with the Flanging idea and the way he panned tracks to bring out everything was great. Amazing and this still stands up to todays recordings 40 yrs. later.

Have A Great Day Everyone !!!!!!!!

Dear Joe,

I am about to go into my third year of Music at Cambridge University, and I was hoping to do a notation portfolio on guitar music. I noticed in the liner notes to The Extremist, there are photos of the studio sessions, in which can be seen files of all the songs on the shelf.

I was wondering if it would be possible please to see some copies of the music you gave to the band members to record these songs, or indeed from any of your albums. I know and love your entire discography! Ideally, I'd like to compare the sketches to the recordings and comment on the interpretations in the essay.

I very much look forward to hearing from you.

Best,

Myles (Cornwall, UK)

Igneousiceman - Awesome... I think Ah Via Musicom should be your first EJ purchase. Then maybe go for Tones or Bloom. Venus Isle is a very strong album, but if you're looking for an introduction to EJ's playing I don't think I'd start here (it's more of an "album" and less "guitar", if that makes any sense). But VI is an album you'll like once you really get into his music.

And yes, the U2 album I was listening to was the new remaster. I haven't listened to all of their albums yet, but here's how I'd rank what I know so far:

- The Unforgettable Fire
- Achtung Baby
- The Joshua Tree
- Boy
- War
- How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb
- October
- Rattle And Hum

I know most the singles from Pop and All That You Can't Leave Behind; I'd probably rank those between HTDAAB and October. And I haven't heard a note of Zooropa but I bet it'd be somewhere in the top half of U2's albums for me.

I like HTDAAB a lot, even though I don't listen to it often. I saw U2 in concert twice in April 2005, when I only had two or three of their albums...HTDAAB wasn't one of them. I'd hear the crowd singing along to a lot of songs that I didn't know...since everyone knew them I assumed they were from an early album I didn't have. When I got home it was weird to see that they were from the new album. That was kind of a cool experience...to see fans so into the new stuff.

You say you like Vertigo so I feel compelled to say it's my least favorite song on the album. ;-)

Keniko - Ah, thanks for the info. Something tells me that was just a crazy Guitar Center rule...but who knows.

You said you have a gig with your band on 8/16, right? Any chance of recording a song or two from it so we can hear you?

symphonyofnames - Hi...welcome! Tell us a bit about yourself. What are your favorite Satch songs? What other bands do you like?
cavernut - If you can get your recording gear past security, tape away (and please share with the rest of us after the fact)! Joe doesn't actively encourage people to record bootlegs, but I know he collects his own shows so he's cool with it at least on some level.

DTS>U2-its weird but the feeling i get when i listen to U2's music is coldness. for want of a better word.its not to say i dont like some of there music, i had abig U2 phase a few years back.

Bono however iritates me a whole lot, a bit to self-riteous for me:-)even though he does do alot of good work..

vertigo is actually the only recent song ive liked-Actung baby is my favourite U2 album-the fly/real thing, etc

Quite like POP and Zooropa.the album with Beautiful day was the last one ive bought.

Coldplay have said they want to be the next U2 or as big as U2 or something.

Do The Stu.....Yeah, I thought it was strange myself. It could have ben' a GC deal or it could be contractual. When you think of it....I can't see any company putting that kind of restriction on an endorsed artist. Who knows maybe I'm wrong. Again knowing Joe the way we all do. I don't think he'd paint himself into a corner like that. So I think you're right. It must of ben' something GC wanted. I'm sure Joe wasn't happy with that cuz he cares so much for his fans. He'd never alienate anyone on purpose. As far as recording I think I'm going to throw up some mics in a xy config. just to document the night. I've done this in the past and if the sound man is decent with a little eq it comes pretty good. At least better than video cam soundtrack. Thanks for your interest and I'll let know when the tracks are mixed. It's the debut of me and a new drummer so......yes this time it will be my fault....lol.....Take Care.

Whammyfreak - I reckon the efeect on lifestyle is like the thing he does on Surfin w/the alien at the end. He kind've picks the note at the same time as depressing the whammy bar a lot and then immediately releases it. Check out a vid of surfin to see what I mean. I really can't do it that well at all!! Guitar to go for for extreme whammy bar stuff is probs an Ibanez with a floyd rose, but lots of other makes have them on like you say.

Igneous - You seem to have given my CD a good airing! Nice. I like Venus Isle for classic Eric Johnson, but Ah Via Musicom is great as well. Manhattan is pretty awesome.

listening to Empty Arms - SRV

Hey Revan and Do the Stu

Just wading in about U2. I love, love, love the song City of Blinding Lights (a fairly recent tune) but prefer the really early stuff before Bono started becoming quite the pain in the backside he is now.

'Sunday Bloody Sunday' speaks to me in a particularly powerful way. Especially the live performance of that particular song just after the Enniskillen Bombing in 1987. (I live 30 miles from Enniskillen.)

During that performance (from memory) Big B says....''I'm sick of Irish Americans coming up to me and talking about the revolution back home, and the glory of the revolution....Fuck the revolution. Where's the Glory...in taking a man from his bed...and gunning him down in front of his wife and his children...where's the glory in that. Where's the glory, in Bombing a 'Rememberance Day' Parade...to leave them dying...or crippled for life...or dead.....for the glory of the Revolution....that the majority of the people in MY country....don't want."

Ok so I was 13 and very much affected by the images of that bomb on the TV, but I live in Omagh so in 1998 we had another bomb, in my home town. This time I knew 5 of the dead....very fuckin sad. Some kids from Spain on a school trip got caught up and killed, as did a heavily pregnant woman bearing twins. Where's the 'glory' in that!!

While I was in Utah, someone told me they came to the island of Ireland and wanted to visit the north. They got to within 14 miles of the border, got scared, turned around and went south again!! Funny ha ha. We got peace now....
