ty Brian, I just sent u an email about it :)

I plan on bringing a very stylish fanny pack to the show, oh yes eye yam....it will make Chris happy, cuz he gets all paranoid when I take a purse. I always wanna leave it at my feets so I can have hands free to take pics and clap...and he is constantly worried someone is gonna swipe it. This way, one of us can wear it, lol!!

Dave Matthews Band Saxophonist Dies By Natalie FinnWed 20/08/08The Dave Matthews Band brass has been silenced.

Saxophonist LeRoi Moore, one of the founding members of the Virginia-based jam band, died Tuesday afternoon at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles, E! News has confirmed. He was 46.

Exact cause of death is unknown, but it was due to complications from critical injuries that Moore sustained in a June 30 ATV crash on his farm near Charlottesville, Va.

Moore, who suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs at the time, had not performed with DMB since his accident, but had returned to L.A.—where the band is performing tonight at Staples Center—to begin an "intensive physical rehabilitation program," according to a statement released by DMB.

After opening tonight's show with "Bartender," Dave Matthews quieted the audience and informed them that "our good friend LeRoi Moore" had passed away.

"He gave up his ghost to heaven and we will miss him always," the singer said.

DMB then played the sax-heavy "Proudest Monkey," off of 1996's Crash. A solo played by Jeff Coffin, the Béla Fleck & the Flecktones member who has been sitting in for Moore all summer, prompted a huge round of hollers and applause.
"It's easier to leave than be left," Matthews said a couple of songs later.

The band's website is currently set up in homage to its late saxophonist, with its home page reading, "In memory of LeRoi Moore...1961-2008."

Although he seemed to be out of the woods, Moore was rehospitalized July 17 in connection with his injuries. [br
Moore, a jazz-influenced musician who played bass, baritone, tenor, alto and soprano saxophone, as well as flute, clarinet and penny whistle, was credited with arranging many of the tunes Matthews wrote—songs that nearly always provided chances for the backup players to shine.

"I have plenty of space to improvise, to try new ideas," Moore once said. "It's almost better than a jazz gig."

...

Words can't begin to describe what tonight's Dave Matthews Band show was like. Dave told the crowd Roi had died after the first song, and everything after that seems like one big blur. There was a lot of crying onstage; it was obvious the band was really hurting. But they played a lot of his favorite songs (click here for the setlist) and Dave talked about Roi a lot throughout the night.

They had a white spotlight shining on Roi's side of the stage during their cover of Daniel Lanois' The Maker, a song DMB has played since their early days.

I'll post a bit more later...the show was very emotional and again, it's all a bit of a blur for me right now.

My favorite Roi solo is in What Would You Say from the show I saw at the Hollywood Bowl on 8/28/06. I need to dig through my unorganized bunch of bootlegs, but once I find it I'll share an MP3 so everyone can hear.

DMB closed the encore with Two Step:

Celebrate we will, because life is short but sweet for certain

...Austin...

ibanezguitars: Hmm...that was one of the only ones we didn't medal in...great riding by Joan Llaneras, his last olympics and two medals!

DoTheStu: I can honestly say I have never seen Firefly, or the film, mso I'll have to take your word for it! Sci-fi wise , not a huuuge fan, but I do like to watch the occasional star trek. (but I don't like it enough to learn Klingon...=D) The Simpsons dvd comes with surprisingly few extras, I was rather dissapointed...Must have been a very emotional concert that...

mahavishnu: One word: AMAZING!!! She deserved waaay more applause than the audience gave.

Just been to the velodrome (again) I really need to join a club and start racing 'cos what with the olympics and all I am Inspired! I met Mark Cavendish and then he ends up being the only GB track cyclist without a medal...(did I jinx him!?!?)

Doesn't vinyl stuff sound so much better?

Hey everyone. I have been a Satch fan for ever, I am looking forward to the next concert he does here in Denver. I took my 12 year old daughter to the show last time and we were 3rd row center. What a great show that was, Joe sounded fantastic as did the rest of the band, especially my favorite drummer of all time, Jeff Campitelli. The guy is every guitarist dream player, in the pocket and the most tasty riffs imaginable. Anyway, keep up the great song writing I love the new album, very cool. But what exactly is it you are saying on the home page and in the song? Matt is your purpose? Someone please enlighten me!

Sure wish you were doing a denver show! : (

I am also a player, check out my satch boogie cover if you guys get a chance. It is the most fun song to play, I must have played it over 2000 times, It is just so fun to play.

Here it is on Youtube: Satch Boogie Cover

And on Myspace: Satch Boogie Cover

Thanks Joe for all of your Strange and Beautiful Music! Mikel Thomas

Mikel Thomas, Joe is saying "Matt is your dentist." He's referring to Matt Bissonette's fine dentistry skills.

Actually, the song is asking "WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE?" and the answer is I JUST WANNA ROCK!!

Here's the vid

and remember...buns of steel don't ship UPS!!

Nice Satch Boogie cover :-)
