Satrini - thanks for the set up tips. I am probablly just being a little paranoid since I've never used a tremolo system before, but I guess better safe than sorry. Also, thanks for the strings link. I just ordered 10 of them.

Do the Stu - I do know of harmonics, but I have never really practiced them much. You mentioned harmonics on the bridge or close to the bridge? This I am not familiar with. I just know the standard 5, 7 and 12th frets. Sometimes when I'm playing I get the non traditional type harmonics, but I think that has something to do with my thumb scraping the string that I am picking. Not totally sure on that one. It's funny when you make a mistake and it sounds good.

Michelle - Love the lick of the week. I gotta try to get one of those t shirts. That is quite funny.

Mr. Satriani: What an honor it is to write you in person. Your music is inspiring to those weak in spirit. It is food for the starving souls. I am very curious to know what inspired you to write the song "Champagne?" from the "Engines of Creation" album. I guess the question mark at the end of the word makes me curious. That song has a remarkable intensity. I just keep thinking, "man what was going through his mind when he wrote this?" I tend to ask myself that with a lot of your work. Please, keep in rockin! Your music helps keep me alive! Peace.

Joe Satrini: Yup. I agree completely. I am going to stop now, 'cos I could go on for muuuch longer.... you should get Autosport this week, there's a lot of interesting analysis in it. What did you race?

MJK123: Great GC session link...

I loaded a page, and thought Wooah! What's happened here?! And it was someone posting a wide post....tsk tsk...=D

hybes - Harmonics are fun to mess around with. If you go up and down the neck you'll find others in addition to the ones you mentioned.

There's some music math that I won't get into, but basically you get the harmonic "sound" if you're touching (but not fretting) the string at a point that divides the string into equal pieces. You get a harmonic at the 12th fret because that's the middle of the string. You get one at the 7th fret because that's a third of the way down the string (the distances from 0 to 7, 7 to 19, and 19 to the bridge are the same). So if you play a harmonic at the 19th fret it'll have the same sound as at the 7th fret. All harmonics are symmetrical around the 12th fret...if you could fold a string in half at that fret, all the spots where you can play harmonics would line up.

Harmonics at the 4th, 9th, and 16th frets also all have the same sound...they divide the string into fifths. But these are only three of the four dividing points. The last one will be somewhere over one of your pickups. Just go the same distance that you did between all of the other frets and you'll find it...it should sound the same as the other three. There are some other harmonics down by your pickups too...play around and you'll find them.

You might notice that the 5th fret harmonic of one string sounds the same as the 7th fret harmonic of the next highest string (except for G and B, due to the different interval). So if you have a good ear, you can tune your guitar by just playing harmonics.

There's more I can get into...artificial harmonics (Steve Morse uses those quite a bit) and tapping harmonics (Eddie Van Halen). Those things are easier to understand than they are to execute, but I'll wait and make sure all of this makes sense before I get into that...

...Austin...

With Sammy Hagar? Definitely some lyrics.

It's going to be a little strange to have only sections of solo from Joe.

I think they are ripping from what I can find out on the interweb.

Sammy is being more vocal about "The Chickenfoot Experience!". LOL - hey Joe, that's a great name for the first album!

Do a google on Sammy and there's some discussion going on in those circles. I bet the same goes for the fans of the other guys too.
