Greetings all!
This RL stuff is getting in the way of my being able to consistently check in and post here in Satchland.
Wanted to see if any other Richmonders will be at the Oct 24th show here... cause...
I just got my CLUB JOE ticket from ups.... YEAH!
But I have a few minor points for you Joe...
1) I know booking places for gigs can be a pain for the managers, but I would be willing to pay a little extra to go to a venue that I where a bullet-proof vest isn't needed...lol.
2) The local ads for the National here said that is was your first time in Richmond.... NOT TRUE... I saw you here back in 1990 at the Mosque... now called the Landmark Theatre. Missed meeting you by 15mins back then cause I was on the wrong side of the building afterwards. I got to meet the opening act... Stevie Salas though.
Look forward to being able to meet you again... I met you for the first time back on April 4 at the GC clinic... 30secs after 21 years just doesn't cut it.... LOL...
Thanks for all you do for us fans... I know it takes a lot of time that you could use for other things on the road... like SLEEPING....lol..
Maybe I could play the first part on Stu's 'Country Music' for you on guitar... still working on how to make the rest playable for my guitar skills...lol... still working on my 2 handed skills.... I can play 'Terminal Beach' all the way through.... Stanley Jordan is a fave of mine too...
A question for that show... If I wanted to bring my guitar for you to sign, how could I do that at this type of event? I think this would be a little different then at the GC clinics...
I work out some sort of dress code so you will know who I am....
I can see it now.... I will walk up to shake your hand.... and hear.... "Security!".... lol...
It will be good to be able to talk to you again...
Looking forward to meeting you again...
LAter from teh_listenerer...

Think I might change my name to Guitar_Pwnerer....lol.

I'm eagerly awaiting Dream Theatre too, and I had the Trivium on preorder as they're playing soon about 35 miles away from me in a really small venue called the Nerve Centre..it's like, ok I'm not a big fan but I can't not go!! Anyone with me here!
Nice pics Al pic pic pic pic pic...
Edit: I've discovered today that if I put on PSATMOR fairly low in the background my 11 year old son actually sits and does his homework! It probably wouldnt' work as well if it wasn't instrumental music I was playing, or if I played it too loud. But anyway, here's a question for you all
If you want to knuckle down to work, or revision, or whatever, what do you like to have playing in the background?

Do the Stu - I actaully saw Plant and Page twice. I saw them on their No Quarter Unledded tour and then I saw them on the Walking into Clarksdale tour. They were very impressive both shows. Although I think the No Quarter tour they were a little stronger. Could be because it was their first time back together in so many years. I really think Michael Lee was a great add on drums. But all said, it's still not close enough to Zep. Adding John Paul Jones heavy bass lines and little Bonham would make it close enough! If indeed Plant can't get the notes he needs every night then he really should just say so. The man is in his 60's and he smokes. It's not like his pipes will hold up forever. It's nothing to be ashamed of. I don't like it that he acts like Simon Cowal everytime someone asks him about getting back together. It's just not cool.
I have not heard any bootleg stuff from last year. How great is it? I have seen a couple not so great vids on Youtube. That's about it.
Tuesdayschild - I really like listening to instrumental music when I'm working or needing to be focused on something. When I listen to music with lyrics sometimes I find myself stopping what I'm doing and singing along with the song. Too much distraction. Every once in a great while I'll put on a news radio station. That constant murmur in the background helps keep me focused too.

GuitarSamuri - Plan on bringing your guitar into the meet and greet. Go do all of that stuff and have Joe sign your guitar. When all that's done, go take it out to your car and then head back inside.
It'd be best to call the venue and check, of course...normally venues don't allow re-entry, but if you have a ticket package and are in there earlier in the day they might cut you some slack.
Blue_Moon - San Francisco will be cold and foggy, and it'll look like it could rain at any moment. It looks that way 10 months out of the year, though...it's not specific to November. If you go inland it warms up a bit and there's less of a chance of rain.
I don't remember how long you'll be in the US, but you really should take a bus down to the Los Angeles area for a day or three...it's awesome and always sunny.
Tuesdayschild - When I was in college I'd prefer to listen to instrumental music (anything from classical to Satch) if I had reading to do, or if I was writing an essay. If I was just doing general studying, though, stuff with vocals was fine. But listening to lyrics while trying to read or write essays usually didn't work out to well.
Nowadays if I have to do work of some kind, regardless of what it is (cleaning, paying bills, wrapping birthday presents, whatever) I find I work best if the music playing in the background is something I've heard a million times and know inside and out. So I usually go with an album from Aerosmith, Collective Soul, Led Zeppelin, Rush or Van Halen.
hybes - Ah, now I remember hearing you talk about those Page and Plant gigs a while ago. That's very cool...I wanted to see them on the WIC tour in 1998, but I didn't for whatever reason... I had only been to one concert in my life at that point...maybe that had something to do with it.
I'm way into collecting bootlegs, from a variety of bands, and I have quite a few very rough recordings in my collection. So sound quality isn't an issue at all with me anymore...everything is listenable (I call it having "bootleg ears"). After a while, the "best" recordings in my mind aren't necessarily the cleanest...the audience noise ends up being really cool.
I've come across a few different bootlegs of the Led Zep reunion...I can dig around a bit and find one you'd like (again, if you aren't too into bootlegs your favorite recording source would probably be different than mine) and get back to you. I can try to figure out a way to file transfer it all to you, or if you just email me your address I can snail mail you a copy. After all, it's about sharing the music...
godisasniper - I'd expect to the in-store to start sometime between 2 and 6 p.m. (later is more likely than earlier). I know you probably don't want to wait to the last minute, but assuming you have that afternoon free even if you don't find out until the day before you won't be at a disadvantage (meaning, it doesn't sound like a wristband or something is required for you to get in). Whatever time it does start, though, I'd recommend getting there at least an hour or so early.
guitarnoize - Very cool guitar...thanks for sharing the pics. :-)

DTS = I saw Plant and Page on the No Quarter tour at what was then Irvine Meadows. The had the LA Philharmonic and the Royal Egytian Orchestra. Truly an awesome show. One of my lifetime favorites. Then I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl a few years later I thought it was the Unledded tour but not sure. Again great show and venue. Actually rented a suite at the City Walk Hilton. The cab ride both ways was hilarious. I think we almost died that night. We have seen Plant at least three times at Santa Barbara Bowl. He can still sing, trust me.

Hey Joe,
I think its time that you receive this fan mail, and to all the other fans out there, I want you to understand how I feel, and I'm not holding anything back, just open the floodgates and let it rip. I am a distinguished veteran of the United States Air Force, and a friend of mine turned me on to your music way back in '86. We were both assigned rooms in a dormitory out in the nothingness of the Arizona Desert, 65 miles south of civilization. He had these HUGE KLIPSHE(?) speakers, and when I heard those first early notes of your brand of music, well its safe to say that I fell for it, hook, line, and sinker. I have been mesmerized by this strange and beautiful music ever since. My task with the Air Force was to handle Jet Fighters, and while you were starting your career, I was sending Fighters to the sky! I had your back! From then on, I just could not get enough of your music, I played it CONSTANTLY, and even today, every bar, every note is written in my heart. I never get tired of you, its just PLAY PLAY PLAY! The bells of LAL just knocked my sox off, I was flying in a blue dream and barking at the moon and looking for ALIENS as your music reverberated through the Arizona night. Playing the newest (Andalusia), Made of tears, Love in space, and I feel like the top of my head is going to come off, JUST INCREDIBLE. Its like a BOLT of PURE JOY every time I hear you! How you EVER became so GIFTED is a mystery to me. The only thing I can figure out is that it must have something to do with mathematics. Joe you ARE the Grand master of all time, and incredibly talented, (NOUN): phenomenal: Incredible, fantastic, frickin sweet, and I HOPE YOUR RICH because NOBODY deserves it more than you!! It is my reverent hope that I can come and see you in concert when you roll into Baltimore and Washington. That is my life's dream, my one desire. Thanks Joe, for all the decades of music, and for all the memories. I stand in AWE of YOU!

4 years after disbanding, Phish to reunite
MONTPELIER, Vt. - Phish is getting back together.
The Vermont-bred jam band, which disbanded in 2004, is planning three dates next March in Hampton, Virginia. A notice posted on the band's Web site says Phish will play March 6, March 7 and March 8, 2009, at the Hampton Coliseum. The Web site says more 2009 dates will be announced later.
A spokesman for the Coliseum, who wouldn't give his name, confirmed the booking.
Phish was among the nation's top touring acts when it called it quits in 2004. The band received a lifetime achievement award at the Jammy Awards last May.
