Good morning Satchland.... I'm in the hotel lobby in Minneapolis using the free internet thing.. Anyways..

What a show ! When Leslie West & Corky Laing walked out I thought they were going to need cortizone shots and some ben-gay...but those guys seriously kicked ass. Corky played the snot out of those drums and Leslie can still sing like a champ. The best song for them I thought was "Blowin' in the Wind" ...outstanding job.

Here is Joe's setlist for the night..in order. I Just Wanna Rock....Overdriver....Satch Boogie....Ice 9....Flying in a Blue Dream....Ghosts....Revelation....Super Colossal....One Big Rush....Cool #9....Time Machine (with a great spacey intro)....Stu's Bass Solo....Andalusia....Always....Surfing With the Alien.....Summer Song

Leslie came out at the end and they all played Stormy Monday & Down, Down, Down....

I have more to tell but it'll have to be later tonight....

If anyone going to the Chicago concert neeeds to purchase an extra ticket, I have an extra one available. My companion backed out at the last minute. Tick is on the main floor, section K, seat 316. I think that's decent positioning.

My previous post describes what I will look like if anyone is interested.

Joe, tear it up tonight, been waiting to hear Time Machine and Down. Down, Down since forever; I can't wait !!!

DTS, I will enjoy myself; I always do at these functions.

Peace

Good Morning Satchland.......How U B ?

Joe tonight at the Chicago Theater......Man, I can't wait to see this show and Leslie West opening. This is gonna Rock.

Cool Leslie/Eric Johnson Story. I was playing The Eyes To The Sky Festival in Lisle,IL. a couple of years ago. John Kay and Steppinwolf, and Leslie West and Corky Lang had top bill on the main stage. We were playing a different stage but got to hang with the big guns cuz' we were playing also. After the show and before we went on we were hanging with Leslie and Corky. Well, Leslie has bad emphysema and he asked me to go to his trailer and ask his assistant to bring his golf cart to the autograph table. So I'm on my way to his trailer and my jaw dropped.... There's Eric Johnson and his band hanging out as they were playing the next night. Anyway, I tell Leslie's assistant to bring the golf cart to him and Cindy and I went back to talk with Eric for like the next 11/2. This guy is one of the most kindest person you'd ever want to meet and definitely in Joe's league. Eric taps me on the shoulder and says" Excuse me I have to go talk to these people for a sec. A few minutes later Eric comes back to us and says" I apologize for steppin' away but I had to talk with them about something. Now where were we before I left" WHAT? Eric Johnson apologizing to us? No problem. It was one the coolest experiences I'd ever had. He so genuine. Like Joe fame has no effect on him as a person.

Guitarman77897......We're center balcony also. I'll be the guy with a huge mustache and with a beautiful Redhead.....lol

DoTheStu..... Thanks for you're support.Much appreciated. I'll email you Riding The Storm out if it doesn't make the cut for myspce(I'm thinking it will). I know a Little is my fav. It's my tribute to Steve Gaines and all of Skynyrd here and gone. God Bless that band. I don't know of any other band that has endured the hardships they've had and they keep going. A true testement to their music.

Kayla...... I'll try to see Joe after the show. Stay by your cell. You'll never know who's gonna call...wink....wink. Hugs to ya.

Have A Great Day Everyone !!!!!

Edit......Guitarman. Click Here for our mug shots. Look for us. Hope to see you there.

keniko: I really like Trower's stuff, he has a signature pedal out, the Fulltone Trower overdrive. Should sound very nice. Great to hear other people appreciate Lizzy's stuff. Good mix you've got there, Trower Bonamassa and some Lizzy stuff; ever thought of covering Emerald? That would be a great one to do...Thanks for the info =D

ZuperDave - Thanks for sharing the setlist. It looks a little bit shorter than the rest of the world, and I'm bummed Cryin' is missing, but other than that it looks pretty solid.

You mention Down, Down, Down at the end...I assume you actually mean Going Down, the Jeff Beck song from the first G3 album? I think someone else mentioned that one in a review...

"More to tell"...did you get to meet Satch?

OutOfTheSetlist....yes I meant "Going Down"....they should have just named it the other way...lol. And yes, Stu was doing a "Going To California" diddy as part of the overall solo. I was sure I was hearing that while he played but was'nt entirely sure until you mentioned it. He was awesome...and it was obvious that Joe was happy to have him there. After the show we went and had a beer (or three) and then headed for the hotel. Before I get ahead of myself...we ran into Mike Manning standing by a side door having a cigarette before the show. We were hungry so we just said a quick "hello" and went to find some eats. OK....on the way back to the hotel we got lucky and caught Joe signing guitars and taking pic's with fans. He was busy so we just kind of hung back and watched. What I failed to notice right away was the van parked waiting for Joe to finish and whisk him away. Inside the van was Galen and Jeff, so we went and shook their hands and wished them well. I introduced Jeff to my friend Eric as "my drummer guy"...and Jeff shook his hand and said that the world needs more "drummer guy's" and theres too many "guitar guy's" out there...lol...

Have a bit more to tell in a later post tonight...

cheese101 - We did get Musterion and Diddle-Y-A-Doo-Dat on the Guitar Center, although I know it isn't the same without the band. I'd be more bummed if we had those back in the set but missed out on something else rare...but aside from the new album I guess Time Machine is the only rarity.

I'm not Joe, but I'd argue against SWTA and Summer Song both being in a slightly shorter set like this. And I've said this before, but it bugs me that certain songs seem to only show up in a set together. It's great to have Ice Nine and One Big Rush, but Joe played both of them on last year's G3 tour. Only having one of the two would be cool (I'd lean toward One Big Rush...I've heard it less), and that'd free up another spot for a Cryin' or something else.

I know this isn't An Evening With, but I'm also surprised at how few albums he's pulling songs from.

Anyway, I'm not complaining, I'm only discussing...

I know Austin, I'm not complaining either....not much anyway, lol....I saw Joe in Ireland for 2 shows and they were longer and included those 4 songs I posted about and they were great live. I like as much Joe as I can get, and he had an opening act then too, so don't know why it's that much shorter for the US tour but I'm sure there's a good reason....I'm just spoilt :)

Ok...I have time to finish the story now ;)

After Joe finished signing stuff, some dude said that was it and escorted him to the van. I did'nt get to talk to him, but managed to wish him luck as he passed by. I was just happy to be there.. But as the van was getting ready to leave, Joe looked up at me, and I gave him a double thumbs-up, and he gave a thumbs-up back. That was the icing on the cake for the whole trip...

Also during the show Joe brought out his "doodle" guitar. The replica of the one he used in the early days. He told the story about how the original was stolen and how he had to buy it back from the jerk(s) who took it. And how the dumb-asses rubbed all of Joe's scribbles off of it , probably thinking it would fetch more that way or whatever. Anyways...a great story that I was not aware of before.

One more thing....When Leslie West came out at the end, him and Joe were both playing identical guitars... a Leslie West signature guitar....and Joe said he bought his from Leslie and it was #49...proclaming that it must be his lucky number for the tour.
