Hey guys,

I was putting some more tour dates in and stumbled on this gem about the new supergroup.

It was in a link from the 2004 is there love in space special radio promos tour archive page: http://www.satriani.com/road/ITLIS-promo.shtml to an article back in 2004 published in the San Francisco Chronicle (actually a pretty cool little article).

"Another track on the new album also turned out to be a first-take keeper, "Up in Flames," a piece originally intended for a super-group called Planet Us that was on the drawing boards with Sammy Hagar, who instead decided to rejoin Van Halen. "That was the take that had the grease on it," says Satriani. "It was undisciplined, but it sounded right to my ears. I picked up the guitar, did one pass and I thought, 'This was cool.' But that doesn't mean there weren't some songs I played a million times until I got them right.

"Planet us" - could it be?

Planet Us doesnt do it for me sounds kind of pretentious, have t say tho finding a band name for a line up like this must be unbelievably difficult

i,m really happy however t hear about Joe hookin up with Hagar, i,d rather see this line up than a Satch or G3 gig, no disrespect, but i feel it will open up a whole new exciting chapter with endless possibilities for the man, hes pushed rock guitar instrumental music as far as it can go, now he has one of the best rock singers in history, M Antony n Chad i know will be a powerhouse, its an interesting line up...lets hope this band boots the rest of the rubbish out the radio! its been a long time since we have had it.... i got my fingers crossed

k back t the grind, way 2 much time i,ve spent posting, laters peeps

Since then i am trying to collect all of your albums, and i have to state my humble opinion that every song you make is a BLAST! And you're one of the reasons that i started to play guitar! Will you ever be in Serbia again couse one of my dreams is to see you play!

P.S. Montenegro would be way cooler for me couse i live there. Rock on dude!

maritime - Thanks, but that's not quite what I need. I'd like for the videos to start loading on their own, but not playing until I click on them. Maybe it's impossible...oh well.

roo - I think that guitar was a JS100 (or maybe even a JS1000) prototype from way back when. I seem to recall the artwork being done by Donnie Hunt, but I'm not entirely sure. I think there's a good picture of Joe and this guitar on the back cover of Anthology.

Regarding Planet Us, that was actually another project entirely. It was Sammy and Mikey and Satch, and then Neal Schon and Dean Castronovo as well. They performed a song on Rockline and wrote one or two for the Hulk movie, I think it was, that weren't used and then Sammy and Mikey went back to VH. If you listen to the newest Music Radar interview with Sammy, he hints at some of this.

Listening to: Lacuna Coil - Unleashed Memories (current song: Purify)

Roo - Good story about the song Up In Flames. That's my favorite song from that cd. I'm glad he decided to revisit it and put it on there. I think Searching is my 2nd favorite. That's a great jam. Gives a little love to Jimmy Page on that one I think.

Used my JS1000 for the first time live last night - and it sounded absolutely incredible. I also use a PRS Custom 22 which is a brilliant guitar - so good in fact I didn't think it could be better. But the JS1000 is even better in my humble opinion - great sounds, really versatile, great to play. I bought it to replace an old Ibanez I had and to use as a second guitar but I suspect I'll end up using it as my main machine. Joe and Ibanez - how lucky we all are that you got together to create such a brilliant guitar!! ChasW.

Hey Do theStu- you are some bloody encyclopedia of facts. Wow.

I recalled a similar guitar in Joes collection I had seen, and it looked a bit like a Donnie style. Just wanted to know if there was more information on it.

And that's interesting about the first pass at a band with Hagar. Interesting.

Hey, guys. How is everyone? I'm workin on some new trax and it's coming along pretty well. I can finally get back in the groove of cranking out new tunes. I wrote and recorded two yesterday. Kinda slow day, but the tracks are decent. I'm in the process of writing a Satch tribute. Again. Ha.... I've got like four already, but each time I listen, I don't feel like it's worthy of the title of a tribute to Joe Satriani....

Do The Stu-How old are you? Im fifteen and it's cool to see other young people enjoying his music. (If you are young. I read on one of your comments that you are still in school.)

Brave911-RG series ibanez? what kind? sounds cool. glad you're back into playing.

Michelle-I agree. Planet Us is not really my biggest preference. Chickenfoot is better. But then again, if the music is good (which it obviously has to be) then the name makes little difference I think.... :-)

Igneousiceman-whichever one 'scarified' comes on. He rocked that. I believe it was 'second heat'. ________________________________________________

hybes - I never thought too much about a Jimmy Page feeling in Searching, but you're right. I remember when Joe would do that live on the ITLIS? tour he'd tease the main riff from Kashmir a bit during the jam, so you're probably on to something...

roo - I have an MP3 of The Planet Us Rockline performance...I actually shared it here on T2J again a few months ago. Maybe I'll upload it again.
Jake Miller - Hi...welcome to the site (I guess you're not entirely new, but I don't think I've ever talked to you before).

I'm 25, so I've been out of school for a few years now. I got into Satch when I started high school, and it's only become more of an addiction since then. ;-)

Best Buy Snags Guns N' Roses Album Exclusive - Billboard Magazine

Best Buy is set to be the exclusive retailer for Guns N' Roses decade-plus-in-the-making new album "Chinese Democracy" before year's end, sources close to the situation tell Billboard. Some details of the deal are still being worked out, including the release date.

The news brings a semblance of closure to the bizarre history of "Democracy," which Guns N' Roses has been working on since the mid-1990s. Since then, every original member of the once mighty group has left besides vocalist Axl Rose, and millions of dollars have been spent working on the new material.

"Democracy" was most recently on the Interscope release schedule in March 2007. The endless delays encountered by the project reached comic levels this spring, when soft drink manufacturer Dr Pepper offered to send a free can of the beverage to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" were to arrive anytime during the calendar year 2008.

In June, nine purported "mastered, finished" tracks from the album were leaked online, prompting an FBI investigation into their source. A sign "Chinese Democracy" was perhaps finally nearing release came in July, when the band agreed to debut new track "Shackler's Revenge" in the video game "Rock Band 2," which hit stores earlier this month.

Guns N' Roses is now managed by Irving Azoff's Front Line Management, and Azoff is a well-known proponent of issuing albums exclusively through retailers. He released the Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" through Wal-Mart in 2007, much to the chagrin of other merchants, but the album was a runaway hit, having sold 3.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
