Sept 10-Sept 17: What Breaks A Heart- Going back to school. This was the first time I heard this one. I would wake up every morning early, go on my computer, and play this. I really love how this song is just a whole mess of emotions. And I like the whammy thing he does right before the cool solo. This one is a masterpiece on so many levels. This song appeals to any feeling you might be in at that time.
Sept 17-Sept 24: The Extremist- A classic. I couldn’t deny putting this one on the play list.
Sept 24-Oct 1: Echo- Kind of the lonely soul of the SWTA album. And it does kinda make you feel like you are all alone. But it truly is a great song and the bass line is so cool. It maintains a nice feel to the entire song.
Oct 1-Oct 8: Premonition- The release of Black Swans And Wormhole Wizards. Premonition was a great opening song and it stuck with me the most. It expressed feeling and the starting chords pumped emotion right into your system.
Oct 8-Oct 15(BSAWW week 2): The Golden Room- A unique piece that I have really come to love. Between the Indian percussion, Spanish/Andalusian rhythm, and Egpytian lead, this song has so much flavor, you’re left with a good aftertaste for a long time. Lol
Oct 15-Oct 22: Is There Love In Space?- Well is there??? This is some of Joe’s best work when he shuts off all of the distortion at the end of the song and just does an absolutely wonderful bluesy solo with just a little bit of delay.
Oct 22-Oct 29: Strange- A nice groovy song which has his vocals featured in it. Another case of flipping through my iPod and stumbling upon the song. This one was really good though. Haven’t heard it in a while and I really did get into it. Notice how Joe’s lyrics foreshadow future songs of his. “Clouds That Race Across The Sky, Day turns into Night, Still there are the questions, no answers in sight”. Clouds That Race Across the Sky=obvious, Day=Just Look Up, Night=Starry Night, Questions=Is There Love In Space? And The Meaning Of Love, Answers= Well that’s a Steve Vai song. Lol
Oct 29-Nov 5: Raspberry Jam Delta-V- A wonderful song. Sounds kinda standard, but it’s very true. This is Joe in his prime. This is typical Joe making energetic, unique, and creative music. Although when people think of him, they think SWTA or FIABD, this one is a staple of his work amongst the closer and more dedicated fans. The intro is just so different, it sets him apart from all other musicians.
Nov 5-Nov 12: Circles- An amazing song that just has that authentic Surfing With The Alien feel. During this solo is the fastest I have ever seen his fingers move.
Nov 12-Nov 19: The Crush Of Love- It somehow slipped into my subconscious and I really was just enjoying listening to it. It was another case of a song just clicking right into place.
Nov 19-Nov 26: Redshift Riders- Don’t remember how this got into my head. ???? But one of the best tracks off the Super Colossal album. I especially like the bridge section with the real heavy groove. Then he kinda comes right in with the wah. Good stuff.
Nov 26-Dec 3: Surfing With The Alien- A classic. I couldn’t leave it hanging. It would be a Satriani play list without it.
Dec 3-Dec 10: God Is Crying- A truly rockin’ out powerful song that finished off the album right. I like how he barely used the wah for the entire album, but didn’t shut it off once for this song. Funny when you think about it. But this song really stuck in my head and is always tremendously fun to listen to.
Dec 10-Dec 17: War- A got all hyped when I saw Joe in concert and this track was very powerful. A rare classic that isn’t heard much live and I enjoyed every second of it.
Dec 17-Dec 24: Silent Night Holy Night Jam- A very holy night indeed. Worthy of this song.
Dec 24- Dec 31: Big Bad Moon- The very last song, the end, the grand finale. Celebrating the end of the year with a rockin’ song like this to get in the party mood. A powerful song with one of my most favorite Satch solos of all time.
