From Guitar Player ... 50 Fastest Guitarists of All Time
Joe Satriani
SIGNATURE SONG: “Satch Boogie”
ALBUM: Surfing with the Alien
Shred was born in 1987 on the day Joe Satriani released Surfing with the Alien. Satch took all the rock guitar virtuosity that had gone before—Hendrix, Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, etc.—and brought it all a giant step further, adding a few new tricks to the lexicon of hot guitar moves and upping the land speed record for notes-per-nanosecond. But where earlier ax heroes employed techniques like tapping and dive bombing to dazzle and astound, Satriani’s mastery lies in his ability to subsume daunting technical maneuvers into beguiling, seemingly effortless melodic statements that appeal to guitar geeks and the general public alike. His secret? Satch is one guitar virtuoso who never lost touch with his rock and roll heart. :-)

Cube - I only have a bit of arthritis in my old fingers, it's not so much out of practice but never been in practice. I've only just started trying to learn how to play and at 54 it's proving a challenge almost as difficult as trying to understand wimmen.

Peace Lily - speed is only one factor though. for me it takes more then speed. the guitar player has to have a feel to their sound/songs, if there's no soul... they can be faster then light and it's not good enough >=:)

Thanks for the encouragement peeps.
Skips - I'll be coming to Oz in two or three years, might be able to jam a bit by then. At the moment the only jam i can do is strawberry jam in a sandwich.

Cubes - Nope, you musta got me mixed up with some other Cappy, i've never even indicated I could play and have had a couple of differences with so called players on here who reckoned my musical opinions were invalid because I didn't play (and therefore couldn't understand). My wife can play the git and piano/keys, my son was making rapid progress on the electric git but abruptly lost interest.
Edit - Yep, that makes me the only non player on T2JOFB though having now progressed to G major AND C major i'm rapidly becoming a PLAYER!!! LMAO

Smashing- as far as Wolf2's posts go the last one is pretty easy to dis-cipher .... >waiting on a order from Dennis Kirk> got a new dog to help keep the bears away>got a buncha smokes > needs to change the trani oil in something . Etc.
mild enough post
is best not to rile him up though. He has been here longer than many lot of us . I usually just skip over & go on w/my day. :-)
BigBunny- I agree on the speed ..I could care less who is fastest . I read the article to see if Joe was listed, then I stopped reading LOL!

...* ole Cappy looks up Dmajor....
Edit - ...and wonders if there is such a thing as a finger stretcher 'cause these chord thingies are requiring my fingers to go in directions they don't wanna go!

Daz - D maj not so bad, G maj and C maj are buggers for my big fingers. If i have any of my three big fingers on the middle of a string it touches the strings on either side so trying to stretch and manipulate them so as not to touch the other strings is awkward. I am making slow progress though.

Yep, i've been doing it right but my finger ends are telling me they want to be near each other and grumble when I separate them. For example in G, first two fingers fine but number three wants to be near his mates. I guess it's a matter of perseverence.
