I just finished my last shift at work. My job is moving to an office in West Covina (aka the Middle of Nowhere), where I would have been required to do work for nine newspapers instead of two, and I decided not to move with it. I've known about the move for about 4 months and decided I wouldn't be going about 2 months ago, so I'm feeling OK. I have a bit of money saved up and I got a small severance package, so I'll get be able to get by for at least a few months.
It feels good to get out, to be honest...I don't know that I've ever complained about that job here, but it's really a horrible and unfortunate situation.
Anyway, I'm not looking for pity or anything like that...I just wanted to share this. And yes, I'll still be going to CHICKENFOOT!!! :-)
scubadaz - I don't know too much by the Cult, but I love what I've heard. I stop by their section whenever I'm in a good CD store, but I haven't bought anything yet. I see they have a lot of those "instant live" releases that look interesting. I'll probably start with Love as my first album, though.
I think we have similar Van Halen tastes...that's good. ;-) I take it you don't have OU812, though? The production on that album isn't the best (as far as VH is concerned) but there's some great music there. You've heard a few songs on the BOBW compilation, but I really like some tracks that didn't make it...Mine All Mine is a great keyboard-driven piece (like Jump but much more interesting and with a faster tempo), and A.F.U. (Naturally Wired) and Source Of Infection are also neat.
elpp - Cool...I'd love to see that Crowd Chant video. I think there's an NHL team that uses it whenever they score a goal (the Phoenix Coyotes, maybe?
pepepersini - Very cool video...thanks for sharing.
burly - Yes, Macs generally don't have virus problems. It's not really true that the computers are built to be immune to them, it's just that Apple has such a small market share that the people who make viruses don't bother making them for Macs. They can infect more PCs.
And I see that Al just said something similar, but I've already typed this so I'm going to leave it. ;-)
satchblues - Thanks for the recommendations...I'll check out some Amazon clips and get back to you. And I'm somewhat familiar with Alex Skolnick...he's another name on the ever growing list of musicians I need to check out.
And you're right about GHS...I like them A LOT. I got the first two albums shortly after I saw Satch live for the first time (with Stuuu).
Astral Traveler is my favorite song of theirs...I love Stu's bass solo there. I really like all their music, though. I've been listening to their first album a lot lately, and Lydia's Love Van is a current favorite. What are some of your GHS favorites?
And getting back to another artist you mentioned...I'm sure you know of and have Eric Johnson's stuff with the Electromagnets? More jazz fusion for you...
Listening to: Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien (current song: Lords Of Karma)

I slapped together a pedal board today. Used some shelves out of the wall unit. It was easier than I thought. Thanks to fatape for the jigsaw, and no, it went nowhere near my guitars. I'll make a fancy one next time, with proper equipment and have all the cables hidden and stuff. Yes stuff, definitely stuff...

Well i just loaded the YJM strat with a set o texas specials n guage 13,s.... was surprised how hot these puppys were so sat em flush with the scratchplate about an inch away from the strings & the pickups opened up.... just WOW fingerlickin SRV tone, that red rec has never been so lit
Ozzy_Fudd:nice lil setup bud but b4 y do anything buy some decent 1/4 pedal jacks n guitar leads ffs y just gone n royaly fucked up yer tone with those nasty plastic pedal connections.Velcro is a pain, apart pickin up every dust mite in town yer goin t eventually strip the spec info off the arse o yer pedals if you care t place them in a different order, best idea t stop em movin is super glue in a small square stick either side of the pedal so its tight n snug with a piece o cloth on the inside t stop it gettin scratched if yer heavy footed screw em in place

Alan- Thanks for the info.I'll have to remove the hard drive from the infected laptop and connect to this one with a special cable and use the software you recommended to clean it up.
Scuba-Using the desktop, just hope I don't get it on this computer. I am using Avast but I thing this happened in the time that my McAfee had expired.
Slansh- I had my strat fitted with 013s a few years back. Huge difference in tone, but rough on the fingers over time. I had Carpal Tunnel Release done 10 years ago (glad I did) but during the year to year and a half recovery, I had to ditch the heavy gauge strings...Now I have early stages of rheumatoid arthritis in the middle fingers. So it's 009s all the way.

Hi Joe...well good to see some blue and to know you are over here in europe.
Congratulations on the MIPA Award...er.....what does MIPA stand for?
GG2 and Do the Stu - Thanks mates....I think the break up may be off now...emotions are still all over the place...we have made up...but something still feels missing....so its kinda up in the air.
Pip Satrini - As above really....I wrote that on the day that it happened....very high emotions....thought that would be it....but there is another chance on the horizon.
How many "another chances" is the right amount though....
Do the Stu - Great Sammy Hagar Interview...I think he is in love with Joe LOL....Hope when you get a new job, its one you like this time.....and well you gotta still go to Chickenfoot LOL
Burly - Did the amps go to 11 LOL
Ozzyfudd - Enjoy your time off!
Hugs to all Satriella xx

Thanks for the comments on the pedal board. It is by no means a finished product, I was just trying a few idea's before the real deal. I was thinking Velcro, then just came across this method (bottom of page). I'll have a hunt around to see if I can find these little brackets. As for the jacks, they will be upgraded in due course.
Satriella- I actually got called in to today. The National Boss wanted a copy of a file I'd created. So I ducked in for 10 minutes to send an E Mail. Their lucky I had to drive past to go the music shop.

Mornin' uncle roy!
Hiya Guitarvibes--Thanks for the great news about the Dutch forces freeing captives and taking all the weapons away from the pirates! Yeah! The Dutch think things through and act fast! Yeeesss! Common sense rules!
Satchblues--Alex Skolnick....there's a name I haven't heard in awhile. I think he collaborated with Carlos Santana back in the mid-1970s when Carlos was into jazz sessions and recordings. Gaud, I love the instrumental "Europa". I imagine Joe could do a sizzling cover of that one if he wanted to. I enjoy listening to jazz and fusion as well.
Gotta face a tough day today---doctor appointments with my Steve. News of a friend from Santa Cruz hurts! He will be layed off from his tech writing job next month...So sad because he is such a dedicated, honest and hard worker AND he was barely with the company for one year! The company he works for is closing up their nearby ops and moving to either Arizona or Texas. Of course, he doesn't want to relocate because Santa Cruz is so in his heart--a first love! How many more stories like this are to be told before employers tough things out in their present locations and just ride with the financial tide along with the rest of us. I thought we were all in this together.....so damn sad.....we all need each others love, respect and moral support.....what could be more important??????! ;-/ I ask too many questions?

scubadaz - I generally don't go for Greatest Hits albums from bands I think I'll really like...I prefer to save up and eventually buy everything. In this case it means I've gone longer than I'd like without some Cult, but it'll all work out in the end. ;-)
And something I forgot to mention... I almost saw the Cult live in 2000, opening for Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes. I was really psyched and I had awesome seats (8th row center in a huge outdoor amphitheater), but the tour was cancelled. Argh...
castle49 - Yeah, I was with the Press-Telegram...although for the last year or so I've been in the Torrance Daily Breeze office, copy editing for both papers. The same company owns both of them, along with seven other papers in the LA area. Most of the rest of them are out by San Bernardino. They just moved our copy editors and designers to one of the other newsrooms, in West Covina, and everyone will be working on all nine papers. It's a big mess.
The newspaper industry (and journalism in general, really) is lousy right now. I'm not as pessimistic as the people who think newspapers will disappear, but I think it'll be a few more years before the people in charge figure out what they need to be doing.
cosmic_ape - I clicked on your link, but you can't make me hit play! John Mayer and VH's Panama? I'll pass... ;-)
Blue_Moon - I don't know much RHCP, but I'd rather Chickenfoot do a song of theirs I've never heard before. They have some good singles, but putting something like Under The Bridge in the set wouldn't be taking advantage of the band's full potential in my mind.
