Men to women ratio at shows... My first couple of Joe Satriani shows, the ration was about 90/10 men over women. I remember the line for the mens room going on forever, and I had maybe 3 ladies in front of me for the ladies room. That was the first time *I* had to wait for my hubs. lol! That's changed quite a bit over the years. I remember at one show we were walking up the stairs from the restrooms, and some dude I've never met made a comment that my husband probably dragged me to the show. He's lucky to be alive today. Bitch betta rekanize! lol! Dunno why, but that still pisses me off to this day. lol! Da noive ah dat guy! Bam ZOOM!
Today's song in my head is Oh Yeah. It's on auto-play in my brain. I haven't even listened to any music yet today.
Time for some eggs, toast & coffee. I'm hungry!

My love for percussion started way back with bands like Rare Earth :-) 2:41 never gets old! I was like 7-8 years old when this came out, and my dad had cool psychedelic lights and all that hippy stuff going on. Love those memories...
Here's a perfect example! That bunch of crusty dudes were the shit!

Monterrey Trace - Missed your post at first but got it on catch up! We had a good holiday thanks. Eithne's heart problem is resolved and she's near enough back to normal. (Except for back probs after spine surgery some years ago), thanks very much for asking. Son continues to test my patience and sanity!
As far as the Foot show goes, darn thing was sold out before I asked the boss if she wanted to go.

Do the Stu - Ya. I was in my first year in the Navy when Appetite for Destruction came out. The guitar work was really good on that cd. It's funny to hear Slash talk about how much he hated the riff for Sweet Child O Mine. I will try to think of my top 25 guitarists and list them and why.
Blue Moon brings up a good point also with Buckethead. He has all the potential to really put his mark on the guitar world, but it just seems like he'd rather keep low key. he's a freak, but he's amazing too.

Hi.
I saw an interview of yours and saw that you had a music teacher that taught you music theory, modes/scales etc. I was just wondering how I could start out learning them? I've been playing guitar for a while but never went into music theory and I really feel like I've hit a wall in my learning.
There is nobody near me that teaches music theory or anything. I was looking online but there's just so much I have no idea where to start. Do you think you could maybe give me some pointers please?
Thanks,
Nathan

Anybody see the hilarious story of the teenager who allegedly fell asleep while getting her FACE tattooed? Now, anybody that has tattoos knows damn well that unless yer heavily sedated yer not going to fall asleep while yer getting 56 stars on yer FACE! lmao! That's like saying you can nap while getting yer teeth pulled - it ain't gonna happen! lol! Crazy kid had a fun idea until daddy & boyfriend wigged out, then it was storytime. I hope the tattoo guy gets tons of bidness from this press, and the girl lives happily tattooed ever after. lol! 18 and getting her face tattooed - she's soooo grounded! lol!

Hey all, name is Pete with a number of little nicknames call me anything really, a name does not change a person.
so here goes my story, when i was really little, probably 5 or so my dad had seen an album that caught his eye, being a bit of a comic book buff seeing a CD with the magnificent creation of Galactus, The Silver Surfer (his favorite of all comic heroes), he purchased the first Joe Satriani to grace our family. There were hours i'd spend listening to some of those tracks loving Karma, Circles, Midnight, Always with me Always with you, Crushing Day, and of course Surfing with an Alien. Listening to that style of guitar, the technical aspects of them, and just how well it fit into the emotions and title of the song pushed me into what i now know and love. THE GUITAR! not sure when i first started but it was on a Peavey Falcon just kinda plucking strings in no particular manner than just plucking lows and barring in Drop D. Inspired by many artists of metal bands i enjoy presently i can't help but every time go into a Satriani Inspired riff. I'm still far to go as a guitarist and it's all self taught, yet the drive to play, i feel, has all extending from hearing the sounds and melodies Joe has expertly crafted, to which degree i am most grateful. While i still have been playing something Satriani-esque i still search for my own sound and style, though heavily dominated by his influence as it may be (he he he) as far as i've come as a guitarist, i'm still young (21) and haven't had any chance to play a crowd yet or even play a band that was going anywhere for that matter. so in search of more musicians to just jam with or take steps into the world of music i came here. I hope such experiences to be fruitful and wonderful not for myself but any yet to come.

Wow! Joe at the Greek Theatre?! Amazing!
I would love to go.......it all depends on how my Steve is doing. The tests at Stanford for him seem endless.......Gotta see a way to make this happen. We haven't been to the Greek since 1980 when we saw Carlos Santana.......my first concert in the bay area since I moved north for good in the summer of 1979.
Do the Stu---Not close enought to Twitter and my windows mail went down.......too many things to do and too many distractions.........Once again.......I'm experiencing STRANGE and CRAZY together......Oh, hell! I'm picking up my guitar as backward as an acoustic is and play it even though my fingers hurt because I have to press so hard.......maybe I should stay with 4 strings by taking up the bass. Six strings is a tangle at times. My fingers are prone to arthritis and my left pinkie locks up at times. This is something I noticed way back when playing the violin when I was in 4th or 5th grade. My right hand is too flighty and won't stay with the appropriate strings. What's this stupid red bump on my middle finger knuckle nearest my fingernail?.....gotta have it checked out....I am learning power chords.....dang! I know I'm twice your age, but I could use a little help here.....I wish I had your energy........Geeze, I hope you get a job real soon. You deserve the credit, recognition, and reward for being the great Austin that you are!
Michelle--I'm grateful you have a job as crazy as it is. PA must be a tough as nails place to work.
I hope more jobs are created this month and in the coming months ahead. For those of you who have jobs, please do your very best and keep them.......and those who create jobs have to realize how valuable people are and RESPECT boundaries such as sick days........my supervisor came to work back in 1989 or 1990 with the flu and fever.......she said she couldn't afford to take a day off......stupid contractor needed her to be in a meeting........I was horrified...as disfunctional as my family was, my mom kept me home from school and any going out when I was ill. I missed birthday parties and hanging out with friends when I was sick because my mom wanted me to get well and not spread slimely stuff around. It was wise then and it is still wise now. Please respect yourself and others by staying home and going to the doctor to get checked out. Do what the doctor says, that's why you consult him/her. I know this is gonna get me in hot water with workaholics.....well, I'm not looking for trouble, but I know there are ppl who will disagree with me.....sad to say. ;-/

cmgio - Download a trial version of PowerTab or GuitarPro and then look for a file on the internet for The Crush Of Love. Those programs have an option where you can see the actual sheet music.
Blue_Moon - How's the finger?
Pip Satrini - It's great to hear that about In-N-Out...haha. Was it one of the hosts on the show who had been there, or did someone call in and suggest it?
I know it's local for me, but I really do think it's the best burger in the US. I've lived in several places across the country and it really is the best I've had. If you don't believe me, ask marimariSRV or matt king...I've taken them there each once when they were visiting CA and they loved it. :-)
michelle - Wow...I can't imagine how much that laser removal will hurt. Think she'll be able to sleep through that, too?
And I know I've been rough on EVH in the past, but I think he's right to sue Nike. His design is copyrighted and he uses it on shoes, so I think it's obvious there's some copying going on.
At the same time, though, I think Converse might have a case against EVH. I've seen someone wearing those shoes and I actually thought they were a Converse EVH style. I don't know if anyone can "own" that kind of shoe, though...Keds look kind of similar and I bet there are other brands that do, too.
KeiKun - Hi...welcome to the site! Thanks for sharing your story...
Have you had a chance to see Joe in concert?
burly - I like HSAS a lot, but that's one of the few Sammy-related albums I still need to buy. Do you have Sammy's Red Voodoo album? A song on there, The Love, is a reworked version of a song he did with HSAS, Since You Came. It was played live back then but didn't make the album...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZIqnYI4sZU
GoldenGirl2 - If you have arthritis, bass will be much more difficult than guitar...the thinnest bass string is usually around the same size as the thickest guitar string. And the thickest bass string can be twice that size.
I think your best bet might be to look for a nylon string guitar...that might be easier on your fingers.
axeshredderjc - Thanks for the Best Buy reminder...I'll stop by some local stores later this week.
...Austin...
