The Irish and the Scots Are From the Same Tribe
Ireland used to be divided up into five parts, the five fifths. There was a northern fifth, Ulster, a western fifth, Connaught, a southern fifth, Munster, an eastern fifth, Leinster and a middle fifth, Mide. Click here to see a map of the five fifths.
The Ulster Cycle is a set of stories which are grounded in the five fifths. Indeed, they are primarily concerned with Cú Chulainn, the Ulster hero and his king, Conor Mac Nessa in their wars against the king and queen of Connaught, Ailill and Maeve. These figures play a prominent role in the what may be the greatest story of the Ulster Cycle, the Táin Bó Cúailnge, The Cattle Raid of Cooley.
Sometime after 300 AD, Ulster became steadily less important in status among the five farthings and the ruling family of Mide, the Uí Néill Sons of Niall started to take over large parts of Connaught and most of Ulster. A similar move was made in Muster by the ruling family of Munster, the Eoganachta family. Thus was Ireland divided almost entirely into two halves.
The people of Ulster were pushed to a small coastal strip bordering the Irish Sea. The kingdom changed it's name to Dál Riata. Yet eventually Dál Riata fell under the rule and influence of the Uí Néill. This family, not content with the boundry presented by the sea, launched colonies across the Irish Sea into then Pictish Britain. Thus was Scotland founded, for it was these Uí Néill that the Romans called Scotti, not the original Picts.
Indeed, it was this Irish Expansion which led to Christianity in Scotland in 563 AD. St. Columba, the patron saint of Scotland, was a member of a powerful family in Dál Riata and in order to keep his ties in Ireland he settled on an island that was close to both Scotland and Ireland, Iona. Of course, even more bizarre is the fact that St. Patrick, the man responsible for bringing Christianity to Ireland in the first place.................was from Wales!!!!!! bwahahaha

scubadaz - Yeah I've tried to talk to RubyG here a few times too, but it never did seem to work. He replied to my email though, so maybe things are OK now. We'll see.
RedJeanette - Hi...welcome to the site! I like how we've getting more Sammy fans here recently.
I'd go for Crystal Planet or The Extremist as your next Satriani album. After that, since you're a Sammy fan, I think you might like the sound of Is There Love In Space?...check those out and let us know what you think. There are sound clips available in the "music" section of this site, if you need help deciding.
I was at the SF Chickenfoot show as well. Where were you in the crowd?
ibanezguitars - Thanks for your U2 comments. That stage sounds really neat...I'd love to experience a show with that set up from the GA floor. That'd be insane...
I'd be OK with skipping the tour, but I looked at the setlist and The Unforgettable Fire and Ultra Violet were played...those are probably my favorite songs from each of those albums. So I might end up buying a ticket after all. And with my luck, they probably won't play those at my show. ;-)
I guess it all depends on whether I get a job before then...

Got my tix for the Tahoe show, see you there Cheese101.
Question though, the opening band is not a band anymore from what I've read. I'm assuming it's a solo thing for the vocalist. Is this correct?

bluebuffalo - Davy Knowles and Back Door Slam, you mean?
It's a band. But Davy Knowles on his own (solo guitar and vocal) opened three Chickenfoot shows in the spring, as well as Jeff Beck's US tour a few months prior.
I've seen him solo three times (one JB, two CF), and each time he told the audience that he usually plays with a band.
The JB/CF shows were advertised as "Davy Knowles" and the new ones are advertised as "Davy Knowles and Back Door Slam"...so I expect the full band this time.

Slan you've cleared up a couple of life's little mysteries for me.
The five tribes tried to unite but two couldn't agree and started fighting, Now I know what Frankie goes to Hollywood were on about in their song "Two tribes".
The others didn't want to fight that day so had a party and all got drunk, Hence the origin of the term "Three parts pissed".
You learn something new every day!

I'm sick of this country & its over dramatic reaction to the bloody weather!! ONE night of rain, ONE & its all floods this, road closures that, hospital ceilings falling in, apartment evacuations, we get rain EVERYDAY!! EVERYDAY!! why cant we cope with one night of extra heavy rain! Last week it was all about being careful in the sun because we got a couple of days of 21degrees!!
