Happy birthday Joe!
To be honest, I haven't been listening to your music much lately. Kotaro Oshio (http://www.kotaro-oshio.com/index.html) held me captive in his brilliance of guitar playing, but today I'll celebrate your birthday by listening to your songs.
I hope Chickenfoot is still going strong. Both your own albums and Chickenfoot's album are great, so adding a couple more Chickenfoot albums to my collection would be a great thing!
Greetings from the Netherlands,
Didier Strijdonk

Monterrey Trace - All children are special but some need that bit extra effort and understanding that only special moms give without thinking it's any biggie. My wife is a special mom but I don't think i'm a special dad, i'm just a mean cynical old git! LOL

Happy birthday Joe. Happy birthday to you and happy birthday to me too. I am an avid fan since you launched Surfing with the Alien album - yes, I am that old and I as of today I am not getting any younger. We were watching your concert in Istanbul in 2007 and I could not belive my eyes when they rolled in this huge birthday cake. I couldn't believe we have the same birthday. I tried to come backstage after the concert to get a signature and maybe a slice of cake thinking that I deserved it as a birthday treat but unfortunately I wasn't allowed. Anyways tickets to your concert was my birthday present to myself and it was a great concert. It was wonderful to see how much you cared about sharing the music you make. Thanks for that special day and thanks for this unearthly music you are making. Have a wonderful year.

Do The Stu: interesting question you post. I probably don't know drums that well to answer accurately, but here are my two cents:
- Instead of asking who plays better or whose style matches better Joe's playing, I think it's more relevant to ask which one of them understands better what Joe plays and with that in mind, I think Jeff probably is THE one as they've played together for so long and they probably have that understanding that surpasses words.
I don't know if you ever had that feeling, but there are moments between musicians when they don't need to talk or even look at each other as they know each other so well that they guess what the other one will play.
And that's probably Jeff's case while with Chad they would still have to work on it.
This doesn't mean I don't like Chad's playing. Au contraire.
One of the pleasant suprises of Chickenfoot was the apparent chemistry between Chad and Michael. The CF's rythmic section is awesome, imo!
Before I listened to CF, I would never guessed Chad could play straight rock so well.
Another example of great guitar/drums chemistry: Petrucci/Portnoy
Abraços,
VP

Dear Mr. Satriani. My name is Lee Chavez, I live in Dallas Texas, I'm thirteen years old, and have a very important mission. To talk to you before 9PM centeral time tomorrow... or my mom will cut off the strings of ALL THREE of my guitars! I'm not joking. It sounds retarded, but I'm not lying. Please tell me how to contact you. Or someone give me his email or SOMEthing. Thank you all.

Do the Stu : Hey SOMEBODY read my sad little outcry....!! Thanks for trying to cheer me up. I know you´re right about the waitingpart - if I only knew HOW long that would be though, that would make a world of difference. Hopefully the Chickenfootshow in Montreux will come out on DVD sometime, like Joe said!!
I was considering flying over to catch Chickenfoot in NY; but I have no idea whether it´s sold out or not. Also I´ll be in London that weekend for U2. A friend of mine insists that at some point I´ll realize that Edge´s guitarplaying is up there among the best, so he´s dragging me to London - I like the sound of Edge´s guitars, though. But he still has to practice a little to reach the level of expression of a Joe Satriani, I think. Of course it´ll always be a different kind of guitarplaying when you´re in a band with such a charismatic leadsinger, than if your guitar has to do all the singing, as in Joe´s case, though!
- Would have switched the U2-show for a Chickenfoot-show anytime though!!
Also, I have often read your input here on the T2J-section and you seem to know quite a lot about high-quality rockmusic and guitarplayers. Wish I had the time to check it all out - your recommendations and so I mean......Aren´t you the guy talking about how great it was to finally hear "Echo" played live, on the DVD-part of the Professor-album?? I agree with you totally - I was one of the 10 lucky winners to join Joe and the band in the studio for the 20th anniversary of "Surfing with the alien" 2 years ago - so I too got to hear it played live for sure.....
.......From a lot of the input here today it seems that today is Joe´s birthday......so here´s another birthdaygreeting for you Joe: HAPPY BIRTHDAY and have a good one.....
Thanks again "Stu" - maybe I´ll "talk" to you again sometime??!!......Best to you from Denmark

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOE
Austin: I think Chad is a good drummer, he can play any groove you can think of. but I think you're right, Joe is going to use Chad on a few tracks for his solo album.
Jeff Campitelli is a great drummer, and he and Joe get along well on stage (musically speaking), he knows all of Joe's music catalouge like the back of his head. But I think sometimes an artist needs a change, that's my opinion...
