Oh, and a mate sent me this quote:
"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."

Jjc2009: I'm saying get a satchurator, it is good! :)
But, all the components, AND the way you play, all come into it. Depends on the sound you're trying to get.

Roo - very nice car! Re Austin , I meant what did he say and why would he perk up. Austin being the journo I thought I would ask for more details since I wasn't there, and he wouldn't think I'm bugging him (well, I am).
When do you move house?
For Chickenfoot in Australia say "aye"!

Skippygirl - It caught his attention because it was something different. There were a lot of normal "Can you sign this?" and "Can I get a picture with you?" questions from everyone, as you can imagine....so my request to make out an autograph to someone on his website that's half a world away stuck out and maybe snapped him out of the usual routine for a few seconds, that's all... ;-)
I did get your latest message on Twitter...I'll respond in a bit by email, so there's no character limit (and so I don't bore everyone else here)...
...Austin...

Don1963 : Spacey.. exactly.. as the song is directly a tribute to the John Carpenter's movie, i tried to figure something coming from space, & rising among us discreetly, imitating our forms, until it is brought to light, & then, the thing becomes very aggressive, several forms explode like a terrifying organic chaos..
In fact, Pinocchio album tries to combine two tales : Pinocchio & The Thing.
Keyboard parts are done with synthetizer guitar.
To tell the truth, The Thing is the hardest mix i ever tried to do. Keep you posted when i'll get the final song, if you want.
& about lyrics, we get some here, but nothing before 2011.
Thanx for the check.

pitch axis is quite difficult, if go to google and type
"pitch axis", you will find a wiki page somewhere. when i went onto forever joe a few months ago, i found it totally confusing!! so i looked up wikipedia and found out what it means.
In every MODE, you have a chord that accompanies that MODE. when that chord occurs, that MODE can be used for melody or for soloing. on the wikipedia page, there should be a table with the MODES on the left, and the chords which accompanies it on the right, now you know what the chords are that accompany it. here's something very intressting i found out.
when you have modes, there's a order that the modes have to be in (this is not about pitch axis by the way).
C Major broken up into modes
Ionian C D E F G A B
(major)
Dorian D E F G A B C D
Phrygian E F G A B C D E
Lydian F G A B C D E F
Mixolydian G A B C D E F G
Aeolian A B C D E F G A
(minor)
Locrian B C D E F G A B
Then you're back to C Major. If you're in A minor, you just start on Aeolian and go down intill you get A Aelolian.
So back to pitch axis, if you look on not of this earth, Joe changes mode each bar. this is because of the chord changing when he changes mode. The whole thing is in E, every mode he changes is always in E, the thing up there is nothing to do with pitch axis but is useful when you're not using pitch axis, i think he uses that example up there on some of his playing, who knows.
Well that's it, hope the helps.

theres f# in c lydian... sharpened 4th man...
we're already on mutual terms the only thing f is lydian IN c major.... is cause the Bb in f maj is made nautural in C maj.... hence f g a b c d e ...#4th
jus dont confuse people on modes n shit unecessarily

DTS - thanks. All clear. How you been anyway? What's up with my big guy Austin? You've been quiet lately.
Just realised I see Davy Knowles in 5 days woo hoo! Due to the Chickenfoot connection I feel like the show will be a mini-virtual Foot thing, if that makes sense.

You guys are right about EVH: he was God once but he stagnated a long time ago (still amazes me how he plays the same solo for more than 20 years...) But, then again, he played stuff that no other could even think of playing...
I'm just not so sure that he's the only bad guy in the picture... It's true VH owes a lot to Sammy but the contrary is also true.
About modes: couldn't agree more with Alan. It's fine to know some theory, it can be very useful, but don't get to dependent on that. Learn to trust your ears!

Finally got Vai's DVD!!! :) Only watched the first disc so far, but it is awesome! The guy is a really mature showman...
The violins fit great and Dave Weiner's guitar sounds awesome (usually the rhythm guitar sounds poorly on these instrumental live tracks - not the case!) His 7-strings contribute a lot to the heavy sound that I like so much... :)
In general, the sound is excellent, you can hear all the instruments clearly and the video is colorful and original (I think Vai himself took care of the editing)
Anyway, just to recommend...
PS: Anyone here remember a Scottish band called "Gun" (end 80's)? They're playing in Portugal next Nov 6th with D.A.D. (this one I bet you remember...) Got my tickets today!!! :)

Scuba: I hope this year's sound engineer does a better job... I used to love GUN! I'm not expecting anything new, but if they screw up the old songs then I'll feel really pissed :S (paid 64€ for two tickets!!!)

that whole C Ionian D Dorian E Phrygian approach is prone to confuse people more... If you want to get the modes and pitch axis down, you need to keep the same DO and relate every scale to it... playing arpeggios than imply the modes also help...

UH OH!! We're gettin' into academics here. Ppls who go to music schools really get to know their glossary of terms very well. Music has interesting language to go with it. Takes a while to get used to. I think Joe uses it in a fun way.
Impressive!
