Youtube: Andulasia (Live In Paris DVD 2010)
(yes a lot of those bloody childish FX: sometimes it's realy beautiful coloring (4:43) of stage/musicians view, but covering all with "tie-dye" or fractal paterns (5:34), no thanks! It's too bad, because this DVD has some stunning camera angles and close-ups, so it's exactly the one that didn't need much FX added or "fast and exciting" editing)
Listening to the CD -all day!- doesn't have those distractions :-)

I watched the "Live in Paris"-DVD last night and I really enjoyed the sound and Joe´s playing (as always!!) It looks like the band and the audience was having a really great time with a great show. That is also the way I remember it at the London- and Copenhagenshows which I attended.
B U T . . . .
I have to say you guys made a BIG mistake on the picture side of the DVD. It is overloaded with special effects and flashing and distorted pictures. It´s like watching a really bad MTV-video - only this one lasts 2 hours plus!!
Watching it to the very end was a pain, but I kept hoping for a steady picture...... but that didn´t happen!
One of the joys of the previous live-DVDs was watching Joe´s fretwork and facial expressions up close but with "Paris" that experience is totally ruined.
Hey Joe, if you ever read this message, for future DVDs please go back to the high standard of filming as on the previous DVDs, and cut out all the flashy stuff because with "Live in Paris" the clipping/cutting/editing is no less than a disaster.
I noticed though that Jeff at the end of "Summer Song" did a small solo, just like he did in Copenhagen! - What a pleasant surprise that was for me personally. He really made my day! Who knows, Jeff may even get to like doing solos some day....
All the best..... Lea in Denmark

Dear dogs and cats,
The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Racing me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort, however. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep.. It i s not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out on the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom! If, by some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine/feline attendance is not required.
The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.
Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message on the front door:
TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS:
(1) They live here. You don't.
(2) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the
furniture. That's why they call it 'fur'-niture.
(3) I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
(4) To you, they are animals. To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are short, hairy, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.
Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they
(1) eat less
(2) don't ask for money all the time
(3) are easier to train
(4) normally come when called
(5) never ask to drive the car
(6) don't hang out with drug-using people
(7) don't smoke or drink
(8) don't want to wear your clothes
(9) don't have to buy the latest fashions
(10) don't need a gazillion dollars for college
(11) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children.

Can't wait to get the Live In Paris DVD today. I'm very eager to hear the live version of Time Machine. I hope the flashing pictures and special effects aren't to much of a problem.

GuitarVibes, Blue_Moon, Canadian Cube and everyone who got to view the Live In Paris DVD--Thanks for warning about the flashy special effects stuff. Steve knows for certain flashing lights and special effects don't trigger his seizures. Sleep deprivation and stress are more likely triggers......and the meds he takes limit the activity of his seizures. So no worries there.
The little I saw of the vid has me wondering where the creaters of the DVD were going with this. I agree, the music and Joe in a more natural "motion picture" is more representative of the essence of Joe and his music.
Steve and I need Jon Luini's help getting the pictures posted here. Or maybe just post them in the photos section of this website. Steve and I don't have as much time to learn all the details of transfer/import/export technology.
I've got to learn to be me and not try to be Mrs. Perfect.....then I can relax and be in the moment much more often.
Glitz Man---Thanks for thinking about my Steve and inviting him on here! ;-)

Remember: you can always listen to the CD 8-)
but it would have been great if LIP was more the registration style of Vai's latest (HD), but with the cool on stage camera work on LIP
Blue Moon: do you also prefer the smaller 6105 frets on JS1200?

Reading a few posts about the editing of this DVD definitely makes me a little leery about buying it. The Van Halen Live Right Here Right Now DVD is perhaps the worst piece of work I have ever seen. It's like a 3rd grader with too much time on his hands put that one together. I don't want to have to experience that again. I haven't watch that VH DVD for a VERY VERY LONG time.
Joe doesn't need special effects. His fingers flying across the frets is all the special effects needed. But I will probably get it and just keep an open mind about what he was shooting for when putting his seal of approval on this DVD. Definitely looking forward to picking up the CD at Best Buy on my way home today. 2 years of anticipation!

My DVD/CD order is on its way, still stoked to get it.....
I was thinking like hybes about keeping an open mind until I see all of it, 'cause Joe put his" seal of approval "
I did watch the Andulasia vid at least 10 times or more- so it may turn out my brain is wired differently than most peeps...... My sis always says she thinks I get high from listening to Joe..............ha ha
Edit- Maybe I watched it ten times or more 'cause my brain was not getting enough Joe & band time and kept telling me more ...more.....More.......... any ways
Have a good one peeps & to each his own :-)

I havn't seen the new dvd yet, i just thought id throw that out there, im sure its fine really
and yeah i liike small frets and fretwire, the 6105 is great, the smaller and pointier the better, much better for my playing anyways, the sa isnt bad, it has "medium" frets whatever that is, the neck on the sa neck is more of a mix of a strat, js and rg.. its a nice middleground, but HSS is my fav pickup combo too

JS1200 specs:
Frets: 6105 frets
"The 25.5 inch scale length neck is made of maple and has a rosewood fretboard. The fretboard has 22 frets with abalone dot inlays. The radius is about 9.4 inches (240mm) which is about the same as the standard necks used in Stratocasters. The frets are a little smaller in width of a Medium Jumbo. The fret wire used is 6105 which is narrow yet tall and whose width is small but the fret height is about the same as jumbo frets. They are larger than that found on the earlier Fender necks and a little smaller than the true jumbo frets." I remember reading somewhere Joe likes the feel of vintage necks with smaller frets, therefore the 6105. My jumbo frets on my RG2570 are to big for my taste so that's why I'm looking into the JS1200.

I don't have my DVD yet (I haven't even received the email that says it's been shipped...argh!), but I did see Andalusia from the DVD on YouTube.
At least in that song, it seems the "crazy special effects" everyone is talking about are the same graphics that appeared on the big screen behind the band during the show (for quick examples, look at 2:50 and 3:35 in that video. So the graphics actually have some meaning, and they aren't the result of a 5-year-old going nuts in the editing room.
I do notice (again, only going by the one song) two different shots are layered on top of each other quite a bit in this DVD, whether it's a wide shot of the band on top of a close-up of Jeff, or a shot of Satch on top of the screen graphics. I almost find that style of editing more distracting than the graphics.
It might have been nice to have the option of turning off the graphics, like the Yes 9012Live DVD. Check out the intro here (starting at about 1:30). You can watch that DVD with all the "other" stuff or without it.
Anyway...I'll wait to say more until I have the DVD in my hands...

I cant stand the neck and frets on my rg + 24 frets... the js is pretty much as described there, its basicly a super strat with a sleek look and upgrades, i love strats so its great since i like pretty much exactly what the JS has and its nice and easy to play with a good feel, in saying that the sa is pretty sweet considereing it was 1/5th the cost! but it is damn good

Ref the 'crazy special effects' debate:
Joe has in essence said the DVD is just how he wanted it to be. My guess is that he is trying to reach a wider audience than the guitar nerds (no offence intended) that make up a high percentage of his fan base.

Joe has been worth every penny I've ever spent on him, and more, so I ain't worried :) Lookin forward to this new dvd, and the Chickenfoot dvd in April, and the Hendrix Experience tour, and the new solo album "whenever" (my guess is early next year too, like about March) and whatever comes after that....it's always the best "ride" at the fair when it includes Joe! lol!
Sleep deprivation...it's the only way to function.......

I just got the email saying my CD and DVD have shipped...finally. ;-)
One other comment on the DVD (again, before I've watched it)... We have LISF, Satriani Live, three G3 DVDs, the Satch Tapes, Reel Satriani, and an upcoming Chickenfoot show. Those are all shot pretty straightforward, so I think it's neat that we're getting something that's different...even if it's different in a way that isn't liked by everyone.
