Hi Im a 18 years old guy from Norway, and i would like to share my emotions for the “if I could fly” rip-off that coldplay did. Just like you said “the first time I heard, I knew it was my own” I had the same thing, I was driving my car and I heard Viva La Vida on the radio, and the first thing that came to my head was “Isn’t this if I could fly?” so I put the “is there love in space” cd in my cd player, and immediately I could hear that it’s a plain rip-off no doubt. And I just want to say that its really sad, I got big respect for your art, and your music changed my life pretty much, and it even got me to learn to play my guitar, and that is the greatest thing I’ve ever done. The worst thing I think is that you spent so much time writing that song, like over 10 years, and all the emotions you put in your songs. I really hope you can pull this off, and I really believe in that. Because you should always protect what you care for and what’s special to you. At last I want to ask you to come to Norway someday, you got a lot of fans! Keep on creating that Strange Beautiful Music that makes people happy, make them think about life and gets their emotions taken care of! Best Regards Thim from Norway!

Hi all,

I remember a video clip director from my country stated in an interview once that he did a photo job for a Mick Jagger gig in Bali. He mentioned the band line-up, which was Simon Philips on drums, xxx on bass (I can't remember, sorry), and the man on guitar...Joe Satriani. Therefore, yes, Joe has been to my country, and I am proud of it. O btw, Bali is in Indonesia, in case someone doesn't know, hehe.

Do the Stu - You're right, I'm not looking to get rid of my ipod touch. It's a great mp3 player. But it's also something that you feel you have to be very careful handling. The mp3 I use when I run is an ipod shuffle. After a year and a half I have finally decided to perhaps break away from that. It's great for what it is. But you have no control of playlists or anything else. You just push play and off it goes. I am looking for something with a lot of options that I can use as a kick around mp3, running and so on. I will definitely check out the sans disc. I think I have heard some good things about them in the past. I like the more bang for the buck. More gigabyte per dollar is good. Looking for decent features. Maybe an FM tuner.

Skippygirl - Be happy to go through it. First thing you do is go to your ituens and check your playlists. One of the playlists is called purchased. Not purchased on "name" ipod. Just the one that says purchased. If you have never deleted any of these since you have had itunes, then all of your purchased songs should be there. If you have cleared that playlist out, then you should recreate a playlist that you want to burn from itunes. At the bottome right of your playlist there is a button that says burn. Click that button. It will prompt you to pick an audio cd or an mp3 cd. You should choose audio cd. This will uncompress the music and give you almost original cd quality music. Once you insert your blank disc and start recording, itunes will open your disc tray at the end of each disc. It will tell you that you will need multiple discs. click the button that says "audio cds" and you're off and running. If you come to a point where you need to stop and do something else, click the x at the top left and it will stop the burning process. Keep in mind if you stop before all your songs are burned, you will want to delete the songs that you got copied onto disc. Delete them out of the playlist. That way when you start burning again, it doesn't start all over. After you have all your cds, go to your windows media player. Click the "rip" tab at the top and insert your disc. It will give you an option of quality. I suggest doing it at the highest quality mp3. It's better than ituens best (currently 256kbps). Once these discs have been ripped to your windows media player, you can now go iinto your music folder on your computer and drag and drop your purchased itunes songs into any media player you want. Keep in mind, this is a very lengthy process!! Also, once you have ripped your songs in the windows media player, it puts your songs into an "unknown" music folder. It also will not have any names or artists to your songs. So before you rip your songs to windows media, you will probably want to put that information on your songs after they are in your new library.

Once I finish with mine, I think I will take all my ripped mp3's and put them onto an external storage drive. It's really going to take some storage. It's quite a process isn't it? I know! But, if you have a large itunes purchased library, you should at least back them up. If you don't and your computer crashes, it's the easiest way to get them back on your computer. Now, if you don't want to convert all your songs to mp3 format, you can just keep the discs. They play on any cd player and you can put them back into your ituens without have to rip them to another format. Does that make sense? Sorry for the long post. It's just a long proecess.

skippygirl....I would NOT recommend your first electric guitar be floyd rose equipped. You want a fixed bridge guitar that is easy to tune. Don't get me wrong...I have an Ibanez RGT42 with a floyd and I love it, but I still pull my hair out when it comes time to restring and stretch & tune. It's tedious and time consuming. You do (of course) have tons of online support for any questions you might have, but that just takes away time better spent learning and playing. My two cents ;)

EVEN GOD ENJOYS A GOOD LAUGH! There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:
1. He called everyone brother.
2. He liked Gospel.
3. He couldn't get a fair trial.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:
1. He went into His Father's business.
2. He lived at home until he was 33.
3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Mother was sure He was God.
But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:
1. He talked with His hands.
2. He had wine with His meals.
3. He used olive oil.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:
1. He never cut His hair.
2. He walked around barefoot all the time.
3. He started a new religion.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was an American Indian:
1. He was at peace with nature.
2. He ate a lot of fish.
3. He talked about the Great Spirit.

But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:
1. He never got married.
2. He was always telling stories.
3. He loved green pastures.

But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a woman:
1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was no food.
2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it.
3. And even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was work to do.

---------------------

A cabbie picks up a nun. She gets into the cab, and the cab driver won't stop staring at her.

She asks him why is he staring and he replies, "I have a question to ask you but I don't want to offend you."

She answers, "My dear son, you cannot offend me. When you're as old as I am and have been a nun a long as I have, you get a chance to see and hear just about everything. I'm sure that there's nothing you could say or ask that I would find offensive."

"Well, I've always had a fantasy to have a nun kiss me." He says.

She responds, "Well, let's see what we can do about that: There are some conditions, though. Number one, you have to be single. And number two, you must be Catholic."

The cab driver is very excited and says, "Yes, I am single and I'm Catholic, too!"

The nun says "OK, pull into the next alley." He does and the nun fulfills his fantasy with a long, drawn out kiss. But when they get back on the road, the cab driver starts crying.

"My dear child," says the nun, "why are you crying?"

The cabbie says, "Forgive me, Sister, but I have sinned. I lied, I must confess. I'm married and I'm Jewish."

The nun says, "That's OK, my name is Kevin and I'm on my way to a Halloween party."

Joe Satriani

Hi hope you get time t respond or see this mail.I,ve just been sent via a friend the David Lucas Burge course on Perfect pitch & i wondered what you make of it?

After a lifetime of sessions playing all the forms/styles then releasing my first CD of my own non style?¿ i have pondered for too long where i must go from here.My idea was at first to open tune the guitar so when i write it comes from my heart instead of pre thought forms of scales chords etc

I know you can sight sing & relative pitch is a major issue for that but are your thoughts on perfect pitch?

The idea of being able to recognize a chord or scale as say A & not A# then be able t write in maniscript exactly that is an art form i am unfamiliar with

could you shed some light on that for me as i like the idea of being able t write like the great composers without need of an instrument

truth be said i,m waiting at the crossroads

ibanez_god: Funny you should meniton that, first time I restrung my RG I had a similar 'what the?' few days as it went out of tune. Dad had a go at tightening the screws and saddle things, turned out I'd been using the wrong end of the allen key, not getting as much leverage, and they were slack as a result...Definete D'oh! moment thinking I'd bought a dodgy guitar something. =D
Just did most of my Xmas shopping...Really hurt my wallet, got my bank statement the other day and saw I had rather more than I expected. Great I thought, I'll buy a new amp in January...Not any more. But, as they say, think of others at Xmas time. I don't mind really, they are family after all. Plus I got some great presents, can't wait to see what they think...:)

Do the Stu - Ya, I'm definitely not looking to get rid of my ipod touch. It's a GREAT mp3 player and video player. The problem is that I feel like I have to be extremely careful when I handle it. Also, I use an ipod shuffle when I run. I have been using that for about 18 months or so. It's great for what it is, but you have zero options with it. You just push play and that's it. No control over anything. I think I want to get something for everyday use, kicking around and running. thanks for the tip on the Sansa. I really like the bang for the buck. More gigs per dollar is always a good thing. I want to get good features with the one I get. Maybe an FM tuner along with some other things.

Skippygirl - I would love to go through it. Ok, sit back this will take a minute =)

First open your itunes and look at your playlists. There is a playlist titled Purchased, located directly under the itunes store button. Not the one that says purchased on "name" ipod. Just the one that says purchased. If you are like me and you never deleted any songs out of this playlist, then everything you ever purchased from itunes will be in this playlist. If you have deleted the songs out of that playlist you will have to create a playlist with the songs that you want to back up from your library. Once you have your playlist, you will notice a button at the bottom right of the playlist. It says "burn" click that button. It will give you an option to burn an audio cd or an mp3 cd. choose audio cd. This will uncompress your music to nearly cd quality. If you have more than 12 to 15 songs on this playlist it will tell you that it will take multiple cds. Click the button that says "audio cds" Then click burn. Each disc takes roughly 10 minutes, depending on how fast your burner is. At the end of each disc the tray will pop open and prompt you to load another one. Keep track of the songs you are burning. If you are not able to finish it in one sitting, you will need to delete the songs that you put on disc. Delete them from that playlist. They will still be in your library, but just gone from your playlist. this is important, because when you come back to it and start backing up the rest, it will start from song number 1. So you don't want it to redo all the songs you already burned.

Once you have finished with all your discs, open your windows media player. Click the "rip" tab at the top of the page. It will prompt the quality. Choose the mp3 highest quality. I think it's something like 320 kbps. Itunes best AAC is 256 kbps. Once you start ripping the cds the music is stored in a folder labled "unknown" in your music folder. Also, none of the songs have titles or artists. If you want that info in the library, you will have to add them yourself. Once your library is ripped you can then put your music on any of your media players.

It's always good to back up your puchases. The cd's will play in any cd player. And the qulity is really pretty good. You will use a lot of hard drive space if you decide to rip your cds to mp3 format. If you have one, I would recommend storing your mp3 copies onto an external hard drive. Either way, you will at least have your music backed up. You'll be safe if your computer ever decides to crash. I'm not sure that you can retrieve your itunes songs if your computer crashes, so you will want to get this done. Plus once they are ripped to mp3 you will not be super glued to an ipod. By the way, ALL Itunes Plus music can be put on any mp3 player. They are not DRM protected.

I know that was a long post...sorry. It's just a very long and tedious process!! Let me know if I missed something =)

no worries Roy, i didnt think you'd be free since yer a nanny now for a bit anyways!

and if you want a good non apple mp3, the creative zen have the best sound of most if not all mp3/ipods, the sounds far superior, Mp3's all the way, i hate apple products on windows

Mp3's are 128Kbps is what i usualy rip my cds at, its a good medium between quality and size, its a shame that windows used to put .wma DRM as the default ripping format in the old windows media players, you have to manually change it before you even rip a cd ot its not gona work...

Skippygirl, sorry, I guess I did miss any previous posts where u asked me...but no, I don't play guitar. I just appreciate the hell outta anyone who can :) Especially Joe :) My son plays...he's the one in our family who discovered Joe and kept trying to get me interested in listening. He lucked onto a cd of Flying in a Blue Dream at a tag sale...he'd been looking at an EVH cd and we were talking about it and about how Chris was at the time just learning guitar. The guy selling the stuff said "Oh, if you're into guitar players you HAVE to check out this Joe Satriani guy, he's a MONSTER on guitar!" So my son put down the EVH cd and we bought Joe's....and haven't looked back since, LOL!!

And btw, the guy selling the cd's....he was actually really mad at his wife for putting his Joe cd out there with the rest, and considered keeping it rather than selling it....but I guess he took pity on Chris and let it go....it was one of those moments meant to be I suppose....one where there is a right and a left turn, and whichever way you go will affect your life somehow....luckily we took the Joe-turn :)
