roo - thanks for that. When I thumbed through the Dummies Guide in the book store I liked the way the authors get you to play songs ASAP - in fact straight after learning A,D,E. But I do need to get the chords right by straight out practice as well as playing songs.

My niece's boyfriend was given a chord library book for Xmas - it has what looks like hundreds of chords in it, OMG!

well once you know a little bit of theory... scale/chords construction and understand a bit of harmony, chords are rather easy to get a grasp of, im sure theres 100's of chords in the book but sometimes those boosk go through eery key!

Skippygirl:-Lesson 01-If the neck of the guitar your playing feels comfortable to you, then your hand will find its own way with time.
Lesson 02-If your fingertips start to get raw or hurt, take a days break and spend that day learning to picture chord shapes in your head.
Lesson 03-Don't let anyone tell you that your doing it wrong.Hell, the great Django Rheinhart only had to fingers on a f*cked up burnt hand and i still can't master what he did!...and i've got eight good fingers and two good thumbs!
Lesson 04-Just enjoy learning because the journey never ends! Now get to it,girl!!! :-)

blue moon - satch once mentioned he found a joe pass guitar book that was organized around the 12 notes, ie, it had every possible conceivable permutation of a C chord all in one place, and so on for every note

skippygirl - regarding sore fingertips, you have to play the guitar every day or you'll never build up the calluses you'll need to play ~ here's a tip from adrian legg: put a layer of super glue on the tips (allow it to dry completely before touching anything, especially your nose *s*) ~ this will give you some extra practice time

...just one more luni satch fan aren't we all...

~f

p.s. skippygirl, steve vai said he dint touch his guitar for two whole weeks before recording his solo "for the love of god" ~ he did this on purpose ~ his fingertips were on fire with pain exactly as he intended ~ something to think about folks

correction: I think vai's point was he wanted to be hungry to play his guitar, and he knew it would hurt but it was worth it

Michelle - I just watched the Beyonce video now I cant concentrate on anything else! She is something else.

Slansh - what is his myspace address? I didn't know he had one. The studio is coming along well. I had a good trip to Scotland but it was fast. Left Little rock on Friday morning, flew to Atlanta, then to New York, then got to Edinburgh on Saturday morning. Hired a car, saw my brother in Dundee, then my kids then to the studio, then for a curry with the kids, then to Glenrothes to see my mother, then to Edinburgh hotel. Sunday morning it was the reverse flights and got in the door at midnight Sunday ready for work on Monday. Pretty knackering but we did a lot.

and Slansh - I saw that Rainbow video years ago and always wanted to see it again. I heard they did that after one of the shows and the tape was stolen - not sure how true that is. Amazing stuff though.

For those not in the UK, Rainbow was cult childrens TV viewing in the 80s.

"Paint the whole world with a rainbow"

Twang away.
