Strewth, is this court action thing for real or just journo's jumping on something?
Joe - if you need to show president for Coldplay doing this before, then I suggest you compare their X & Y album track called "Talk" which has an opening guitar riff undoubtedly taken from the band Kraftwerks song "Computer".
I spotted that as soon as I heard the song (my Dad played me the Kraftwerk song when I was very young)
I know they acknowledge where the track came from given I saw them play it live somewhere wearing Kraftwerk t-shirts.
Whether they had permission or not I don't know, but it shows they've used other peoples music as a basis before.
There's also a mention of Depeche Modes Strange Love turning into Coldplays life in Technicolour and so on and so on....
Hope that helps
Oh, actually here's an article on that here and I'm sure you can find lots more stuff on it
Good luck
Phil

Good grief Mc, you DEFINITELY have a fever!! GIT BACK TO BED!!!
Although....that's such a cheerful song....if it makes u feel better, then I guess you should go for it :) Spend the sterling Mc...the euros....whatever....make a small child happy, lol....it WAS a fortune in coins, after all :D
Joe....I believe you wouldn't waste your time pursuing anything frivolous when it comes to your career. You seem to have been quite serious about that aspect of your life from a very early age, from the things you have said in interviews. This lawsuit is likely to be a long and difficult battle for you, judging by the way the court system operates these days. My, and I'm sure many others' good thoughts and prayers will go with you as you take on this fight for what is right. Justice does have a way of prevailing, eventually...I hope for you that justice is served sooner, rather than later. Much good luck on this Joe....you know we love ya and are always behind you 100%.

Hi Joe. I've been your fan since 1994. I have every single record. I've heard you play live. Your work has been inspiration for so many of my own works and deeds.
I also respected and enjoyed work of Coldplay since their beginnings. If this what I just read about suing Coldplay for "If You Could Fly" - "Viva La Vida" issue is true; I'd just like to tell you that you are making a mistake. Even if there is similartiy. Even if it was "too similar". I would be proud of if it, if I was in your place.
And with all due respect, I would advise to take your time and put it in a new record.

Guitarist Satriani accuses Coldplay of plagiarism
AP LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Rock guitarist Joe Satriani has sued British band Coldplay, accusing the Grammy-nominated stars of plagiarizing one of his songs.
Satriani's copyright infringement suit, filed on Thursday in Los Angeles federal court, claims the Coldplay song "Viva La Vida" incorporates "substantial original portions" of his 2004 instrumental "If I Could Fly."
The 52-year-old guitar virtuoso is seeking a jury trial, damages and "any and all profits" attributable to the alleged copyright infringement.
Coldplay, whose soaring atmospheric tunes are often compared to those of Irish rock band U2, received seven Grammy nominations on Wednesday, second only to rapper Lil Wayne.
Among its mentions were nominations in the key record and song of the year categories for "Viva La Vida," which comes from the band's chart-topping album "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends."
The song is credited to the band's four members, singer Chris Martin; bass player Guy Berryman; guitarist Johnny Buckland; and drummer Will Champion. The title was inspired by a painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
The Satriani track comes from his album "Is There Love in Space?" Further comment from Satriani's attorney, or reaction from Coldplay's management was not immediately available.

Hi,
got a Satchurator from the Vox importer here in FInland. It took a while to get it fir into my gear. I don't know if there is differences between the units, but mine doesn't sound anything like Joe's on the video. I have a bit different pickup, but still it's way different. But ok still.
Cheers
Pat

Do they have the right song off ITLIS for the Coldplay lawsuit?
Is it the rhythm part?
I only listened to the Coldplay song 2 or 3 times.
I would like to know because when people ask me, I want to answer them from Joes stand point.

If anything Joe, sue for your name to be credited to the song Viva La Vida. Not for damages! Coldplay is a great band and if they did steal your chord progression/melody embrace that your music has inspired a great song. Joe, your a musical genius and have inspired many people. I fear if you sue for damages people will think differently of you, not the humble Joe we know. Either way I'll always be a fan of yours!
