I just want to say Go JOE Go! I read in the paper today that he filed a lawsuit against ColdPlay for copyright infringement. I signed into this site for the first time just to say Go JOE Go!

One thing I've noticed about Joe (besides his musical genius) is that he is the most humble guy on earth. Despite being one of the best guitarists/musicians of all time, he'll back up on stage to let FunTwo shine in the spotlight. Here is a guy who has a flawless understanding of music theory, and I can't imagine Joe filing a lawsuit unless he's 100% certain of infringement. And, in my opinion, it's the principle that concerns Joe.

PS Thank you Joe for the beautiful music.

This has got to be one of the ALL TIME best videos ever made! It reminds me of the old school trippy vids where the bands would play with the psychadelic background zooming in and out, and all the "cool" effects they'd throw in to make the vid out there. Joe's vid is bangin'! It's got everything but the kitchen sink thrown in it, and if we look close enough, there might even be a kitchen sink in there somewhere! Whoever created that video should be...Creator Of ALL Videos from now on. lol!

Did I mention I dig that video?

Then what´s next? Is Satriani gonna accept Coldplay appologies? Or is he gonna stand still with his argument? Please tell me he will. If he doesn´t, it would be like letting them keep doing the same crime over and over again.

Dear Mr. Satriani

A friend of mine played a cassette tape of your music for me about 10 years ago and I wasn't impressed. However, this same friend invited me to your tour-ending show at the Warfield in San Francisco recently and I was utterly blown away by your pyrotechnics. I’ve heard some great guitar players, but I’ve never heard such extraordinary technical prowess mated to a soul that seems so full of joy.

Jimi Hendrix has been my favorite guitar player for decades because of his unmatched ability to transmogrify his emotional landscape into music that penetrates into the deepest reaches of the heart and soul. I am happy to say that, in my mind, anyway, you’re right up there with him in the pantheon of guitar gods. I humbly thank you for your dedication to your art, for your brilliant playing gives us all the sonic ambrosia that nourishes us and makes this world a better place.

With Profound Respect and Admiration

Paul David Tuff

Thanks webby Jon and Joe for posting up the link on the news page to Joe's statements about the lawsuit. People need to hear what they can directly from the source, rather than speculating. Remember you've got all our support Joe!!

Just watched the tv version of The Bob and Tom show, they replay an hour's worth of that day's radio show, on tv....I don't normally watch it but did tonight and yep...Joe's story was the lead story at the begininng of the hour. The expressions on everyone's faces as they heard the two songs played one after the other and then meshed....priceless and totally supportive of Joe.

Umm, chelle...I'm skerred...I don't want a whuppin' from u. I try honey...it's just really hard. What if my bulb is all burnt out? But u can still come visit me anytime :) And ty for caring. I hate veal. But I'll stock up on the Jeager just fer u :)

Nick Satullo, gotta say I'm enjoying yer take on things....and only time will tell the end of this tale....

novjul, thanks for that info and keeping us updated on happenings. No worries on the chat, it happens all the time to peeps, lol!

chelle, did I mention I lubs u and that video, LOL! Thanks for the always welcome reminders of how fun and goofy Joe is :)

paultuff, I especially liked this quote from you:

I’ve heard some great guitar players, but I’ve never heard such extraordinary technical prowess mated to a soul that seems so full of joy.

And THATS what I love about Joe in a nutshell!! And want to see that joy stay alive always.

Night everyone.

Hey Joe, havent posted here in quite some time. I just wanted to apologize for whats happening with this coldplay thing. I'm sure its not easy for you. I dont think Coldplay will have a real case to fight against this. its too close to your song and thousands of people have pointed that out already. Good luck with this and i hope it doesnt haunt you for years to come. See ya Joe and keep your head high man, just take this as a compliment. your song writing is so great that they had to actually rip off your original song to make it high on the charts, thats sayin something! night

Joe, I just wanted to take a quick minute to say how much I have appreciated your music over the near 20 years that I have been listening to you. I don't know you, but I feel like I have a good handle on what kind of person you are and connect with the emotion you translate into your music. I can only imagine how hard the theft of your music is on you and I simply wanted to let you know that as a long-time devoted listener, I hope for the best through this for you and your family. Keep the faith and know that we who believe in you and what you give to us know that you truly mean what you say and only want what is right.

Thank you for all the music, thoughts and emotions over the past two decades.

Sorry' still onto Coldheart, i mean hardplay, hang on, that's right, "dipshits".
One of the replies from the musicradar.com article, had this to say

Everyone please have a listen to Alizee, she is a french female singer, listen to her track I'm fed up on Youtube. The track was released in 2003, a full year before Joe's song. I believe that Joe will not win his case, as Alizee's song will be the basis for Coldplay's defence, how can a man sue Coldplay for copyright infringement, this after he releases a song a full year after Alizee. If any artist has been ripped off it is Alizee, Coldplay have even used the same string stabs as Alizee's song, Just do a youtube for Alizee I'm fed up. Peter Liverpool

Alizee - I'm fed up
The plot thickens......

The Coldplay statement looks more like it's something specifically for their fans as opposed to a general comment on the lawsuit. They say "he did not write" the song...well, he isn't claiming he did. And the second part of that, "or have any influence on," sticks out at me. They're saying he did not have any influence, but they aren't saying that his music did not.

This case is serious...this comment here sounds much different than the jab I posted from 2002 or the joke about being sued by "Moe Batriani" that they made a few weeks ago. Interesting...

hybes - No, Buckethead didn't have a band with him...it was just him playing on top of backing tracks. I may have said this in my earlier post, but it felt weird to me...I saw him a few years ago with a band and that was really cool. But this was a bit odd. I feel the same way about the two Satch in-store performances I've seen, where he plays over backing tracks. It's just hard to get completely into it.
REVAN 2008 - The song you're thinking of, pre-Led Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven, is Taurus by the band Spirit.

I hear some similarities when you only listen to the one line from Taurus and the STH intro, but when you listen to Taurus from start to finish (click here) you really hear that Taurus is doing something completely different than what STH became.

maritime - "What about all the fuzz around this song "If I could play" by Coldplay?"

Coldplay? Don't you mean Coolplay#10?

;-)

GoldenGirl2 - FYI, Al told me when he was here that he HATES the band U2...hehe.
paultuff - Hi...welcome to the site! I was at the San Francisco show as well...it was an awesome end to the tour...
TheBob - It's cool to see you here again...don't be a stranger.
mjs99 - "You stole it first!" won't work as a defense for Coldplay. If Alizee felt her song had been ripped off she would have sued Joe four years ago. Coldplay doesn't own the rights to that song so bringing it up in court won't really do anything. The copyright isn't theirs to defend.

And, to be honest, I don't hear any If I Could Fly in the Alizee song, but I hear orchestration that's very similar to Viva La Vida.

...Austin...

The latest news from Reuters is that Coldplay released a statement on their website which read: "Joe Satriani is a great musician but he did not write or have any influence on the song 'Viva La Vida.' We respectfully ask him to accept our assurances of this and wish him well with all future endeavors."

Do The Stu & mjs99:- I'm in agreement with Austin in that Coldplay' s song sounds more like Alizee's song than Joe's song does by a long shot.I tried playing the melody from If I Could Fly over Alizee's song and it just doesn't quite fit in. Anyone else out there who plays guitar should give it a shot, coz i'm only human after all and i could be wrong. On another note, my daughters boyfriend is forming a tribute cover band named COLDPLAYgeriser. It's already copyrighted so Coldplay can't steal it! C'MON AUSSIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow man... this Coldplay business is a strange coincidence....

I dated this evil messed up girl, who LOVED coldplay, and I LOVE Satch.... so when I heard this, I couldn't help but laugh with extreme gut bustage...

Bitterness aside...

We all rip stuff off, but a BLATANT use of a unique and complex melody just ain't right. I mean the dude sings it just how Joe plays it come on!

I totally agree with Joe on his comments, I've written some very very personal songs, that I poured a lot of work into... if someone came along and did this to me, I'd be so #$@!in' pissed off... Get em' Joe!

BTW The last show at the Warfield was amazing!!! See you at NAMM!

McKenna--My bad. U2 NOT your cup o tea--I get it. Yesh, you are right about Van Morrison being from N Eire. He is a legend in my mind--goes way back to the "Gloria" days. To my ear he sounded a bit like Mick Jager. I sure have unique eardrums! What is your opinion of DEF LEPPARD? Go ahead and rip me if you don't like them.

Tracie--How ya be? How was it for you growing up female? It was kinda strange at times for me. Some people encouraged me to express my masculine side; others wanted me to be super girlie, girlie. God help the guys who explored their feminine side---OH NO--THAT WAS FORBIDDEN! THEY WOULD BE CALLED PUSSIES, WUSSES, OR WORSE!! I got worried when my older sister went through puberty--it was traumatic for her. She was sooo embarrassed when a guy in Junior High School had a crush on her!! Then I went through puberty and it was time to run, hide and isolate!! Yikes!! My parents were in deniel about their "baby girl". It's a wonder I'm still alive!!

Michelle--How was growing up female for you?
