QuentinGaraque - I doubt you'll be back here, but... You have a gripe with Joe's argument...but why are you mad at him when all he's trying to defend are the rights he has under U.S. copyright law?

I don't see how anyone can support the "paying homage to your heroes" argument when Coldplay has openly mocked Satch in the past at least twice that I know of (in a 2002 interview and in a performance video recorded about three weeks before the lawsuit). From what I hear, they're continuing to make comments at their shows.

To me, it sounds like Coldplay has a different perception of themselves and it finally caught up with the band.

novjul - It's nice to have you back here...I hope you stick around. Also, like most of us, Al is slightly crazy...but I doubt you seriously offended him.
jeg1000 - Welcome (back)! What was your old username here?
Joe Satrini - Al gave me a cop chick trading card (like a baseball card, but all about her)...maybe if he doesn't post anything I'll post a picture of that one. I guess they make those to hand out to little kids, but I wonder if there are any twisted criminals out there who are trying to collect the whole set. ;-)

I look forward to your Coldplay post, whenever you get around to it. Did you blow off the gig because of the thing with Satch?

Joe Satrini: Una Noche, Musty Professor (1,2 and 3), my Donnie! :) There's a few cool things. Actually the Always with me Jam at Allans on the Curly Joe Satarini CD is awesome, I was there and it was such a cool and very cosy jam, they played the one (loooooong) version of always to a packed guitar shop (probably 80 people?) with us all sitting on the carpet.

Cotton Club, not just the recording, but the format of the pack and the history of how and where I found it.

Some more little things in there. I enjoy collecting them for the packaging as well, the long box format surfing is pretty cool, the print on the CD is different also. And I think the Surfing/Joe double sided picture vinyl is very cool. Joe had a laugh signing that one.

i have had enough of the coldplay stuff aswell, its getting to be like beating a deadhorse. some of the things some people have said that is wrong and shows their limited knowledge of music is that there are only so many variations of chord progressions that you can do. i don't think thats true though.

my knowledge of theory is intermediate at best. but heres a thought. if you just take a 12 bar blues scale and want to calculate all the possiblities, i beleive it would look like this: 12 to the power of 12= 61,173,364,224

i had to use the computer calculator so i hope i didn't lose count. but this is over 61 BILLION! and that is only the tip of the iceberg.

Just had a wee trip down memory lane as I went back to the old TTJ archives. Ever do that? Its really interesting to see the posts again and what was being said when new albums were released. I remember the old page format when a new page would have to be created and Joe would utter his famous "ahhh new page" posting. The good thing about that is that we heard from Joe more often back then. I was a different username then but did see where I had Slan get on this site and add his first posting. So many people not here anymore though - but a few still are. I wonder if all those that were "Joe's biggest fans" still are.

Slan - Happy Birthday to Wee John. I'm betting he'll be better than 99% of guitarists by the time he is 5 with you around.

Goodnight everyone

Ronnie

Joe,

It has been a couple of years since you have had a show in seattle. I thought for sure you would stop by on your west coast tour. Although I did see you at guitar center with my son for the guitar work shop which was freakin awsome. My son who is almost 4 really wants you to come to town. you are his guitar hero. keep up the amazing work you do.

mjs99, It's still not the same! This one is quite similar to Coldplay's (the chords..) but of course nothing like If I Could. The thing between the melody of cold's and satch's doesn't repeat with her's. Try playing the melody of her and Joe's songs together and they won't work, unlike with coldplay's. I think Satch will be able to sue coldplay, but Alizee probably wont. Chord progressions are what they are! :P

Joe, I was listening to the Merry Axemas cd's along with some Tran-Siberian Orchestra on my Christmas playlist and I thought it would be really cool if you, Steve, and some other guys did a classical version of the Merry Axemas project. You know, get a bunch of great guitarists, have them each write an arrangement of one of their favorite classical pieces and then put them all together. I know Savatage did some arrangements and then that led into TSO, but I can't think of anyone else that has done much along those lines. Just a thought. I love your music and you are a continual inspiration for me to pick up my guitar and keep working at improving my skills.

Ugh...tonight was such a horrible one at work. Everything was late and slow and just meh. I'm glad I have a vacation coming up. A new job coming up would be even better, though. :-/

jeg1000 - Ah, that old username sounds familiar...it's good to see you here again.
FabLawyer of SBM - I go and look through old posts every now and then too. Because of the lawsuit, I recently went back and read some early opinions on ITLIS?...If I Could Fly was a favorite for a bunch of T2Jers from the start.

I think my favorite old T2J memory is /V\ | |\| |> $ + 0 R /V\ and all of the related symbols that we'd come up with. We even got Joe to take part in the craziness (click here and scroll down to Thu Apr 18 20:23).

And this may sound a bit weird, but I go back to read this page every now and then. It started with Joe asking if anyone had tried Mac OS X and michelle singing I Believe (In Ice Cream), and then everything changed.

Railton - You're welcome...I think. ;-)

Hey Joe,

I saw, in a guys shop, y'know where they sell bar clocks and silly drinking glasses and stuff, they had guitarist action figures from guitar hero.

I madly looked through them for a Joe Satriani, complete with black dog guitar. Imagine my surprise when I couldn't find one! LOL. I did find a complete Metallica band box, with guitarist, drummer, etc..

Anyway, it got me to thinking, I reckon a LOT of fans would buy a posable shaved buckethead guitarist action figure with a blackdog or JS1200CA or js10th guitar they could sit in their studio or on the desk at work.

In fact, you could have a timemachine and satchurator pedal in there, and a couple of guitars. then you could sell accessories, different guitars (a limited set of donnies, rainforests and electric rainbows) a JSX head and cabinets, a rubber chicken, a moustache and eyebrow disguise set, etc.... Then get the guys into it and have stu figure, and a Jeff figure with drums, and a Galen figure.

That would be pretty funny.

Let me know if you want me to do it and how much royalty you want from sales, and I'll track down some manufacturers.

:)

i am getting sick of this anti coldplay thing here...they are not my fav band and i don't really like them...but with everyone siding with joe satriani and you all will because you are all his fans.but i am imagining coldplay (who have sold more records and written countless hits...without being accused of stealing other artists lyrics! all sat around and listened to joes album and said..."man that was a great track...we are not good songwriters lets copy joes and make heaps of money! " so seriously...it won't win in court, there will be a small settlement and thats it.i am sick of all the fans here just jumping on the band wagon and just accusing coldplay of stealing and not thinking logically... what about the english gruop...THE VERVE with the huge hit..."bittersweet symphony" the stones accused them of stealing the melody of"the last time" and yes you could hear it...but only after it was pointed out in the media by lawyers etc...again i feel it was an accident and the verve never intentionally stole the melody...and i feel music is so diverse it would be hard to prove that something that sounds similar was dilberately stolen...so please stop thinking that coldplay stole it without knowing the facts...a talented musician like joe needs his fans...but the fans have to think logically like i am...a fan of joes...but am not getting carried away...
