Dear Joe,

I'm sorry to say that I unfortunately wasn't familiar with your music before I heard about the suit with Coldplay (although after hearing some of your songs, I'm glad I know about you now! Seriously, fantastic stuff!) I heard about the suit because I was heading to law school to study copyright and intellectual property when I fell ill and wasn't able to go. I'm now stuck in bed cause of this stupid disease, so I have way too much time on my hands to read about lawsuits, brush up on what I'm missing out on from law school, and listen to way too much music to fill up all the downtime. :)
So when I heard about your lawsuit, I was eager to check out the two songs and compare them for myself. I used to be a Coldplay fan way back when, until I felt like they just kept dishing out songs that sounded exactly the same. By the time 'Viva La Vida' came out, I was so done with them I hadn't even really heard the song yet. Now it seems like the only way they could stop from dishing out the same old drivel, they had to copy someone else to find a new sound! How pathetic.
When I compared your song with theirs, however, not only did I think yours was better, but theirs was about as close of a copy as possible short of just flat out producing a cover. I mean, holy crap, I'm no music expert, but even I could hear it! The more I talked to friends who have gone to school for music theory and stuff like that, the more I realized just how similar the two songs are, not just to the naked ear but on a note by note, chord by chord basis.
So although I can't comment with any musical expertise, I can comment with at least a little bit of knowledge of how copyright and intellectual property laws work. And I must say, from where I'm sitting, this is an absolute open and shut case. You were right to bring this suit, no matter what the recording industry or rabid Coldplay fans say about it. This was your opus, your baby, your song, and they flat out stole it. You have every right to protect what's yours.

Anyway, I signed up here on your website just to let you know that this has at least brought you some new fans, and I'm one of them. And also, I may not be a copyright attorney yet, but I know some of the best in the business, including more than half the faculty at Stanford Law. If there's anything - *anything* - I can do, please do let me know. I'd be happy to help in any way I can, although I'm sure you're already more than covered. But still, it never hurts to know you have friends out there to back you up, right? :)

Keep up the great work, don't lose hope, and know that there are lots of people out here rooting for you.

Sincerely,
Heather
Washington, DC

What Starts with F and ends with K

A first-grade teacher, Ms. Brooks, was having trouble with one of her students. The teacher asked, 'Harry, what's your problem ?'

Harry answered, 'I'm too smart for the 1st grade. My sister is in the 3rd grade and I'm smarter than she is! I think I should be in the 3rd grade too !'

Ms. Brooks had had enough. She took Harry to the principal's office.

While Harry waited in the outer office, the teacher explained to the principal what the situation was. The principal told Ms. Brooks he would give the boy a test. If he failed to answer any of his questions he was to go back to the 1st grade and behave. She agreed.

Harry was brought in and the conditions were explained to him and he agreed to take the test.

Principal : 'What is 3 x 3 ?'

Harry : '9.'

Principal : 'What is 6 x 6 ?'

Harry : '36.'

And so it went with every question the principal thought a 3rd grader should know.

The principal looks at Ms. Brooks and tells her, 'I think Harry can go to the 3rd grade.'

Ms. Brooks says to the principal,' Let me ask him some questions.'

The principal and Harry both agreed.

Ms. Brooks asks, 'What does a cow have four of that I have only two of ?'

Harry, after a moment: 'Legs.'

Ms Brooks: 'What is in your pants that you have but I do not have ?'

The principal wondered why would she ask such a question !

Harry replied : 'Pockets.'

Ms. Brooks : 'What does a dog do that a man steps into ?'

Harry : 'Pants.'

Ms. Brooks : What starts with a C , ends with a T , is hairy, oval, delicious and contains thin, whitish liquid ?'

Harry : ' Coconut.'

The principal sat forward with his mouth hanging open.

Ms. Brooks :' What goes in hard and pink then comes out soft and sticky ?' The principal's eyes opened really wide and before he could stop the answer, Harry replied,'Bubble gum.'

Ms.. Brooks : 'What does a man do standing up, a woman does sitting down and a dog does on three legs ?'

Harry : 'Shake hands.'

The principal was trembling.

Ms. Brooks : 'What word starts with an 'F ' and ends in ' K ' that means a lot of heat and excitement ?'

Harry : 'Fire truck.'

The principal breathed a sigh of relief and told the teacher,' Put Harry in the fifth-grade, I got the last seven questions wrong.....'

Blue_Moon - I'm sure you'll do fine on your driving test...even if it is on an unlucky day (although I've never ever understood that, haha, as 13 is my favorite number).

michelle - I'm glad you called me out on Coldplay's award not affecting us...haha. I originally had it written a different way, but I went with an "us" because it was easier to say. I paused for a minute thinking it wasn't really right, but stuck with it anyway...and there you go pointing it out! ;-)

Thanks for those Coldplay quotes...regardless of what happens with this lawsuit at least maybe it'll make these guys realize that they actually aren't on top of the world like they think they are.

maritime - Ah, that doesn't sound pretty...I hope you find your way back here fairly soon though...
Glitz Man - It's good to hear that you beat your expected time, and MAN does it look cold out there on that run. Brrr...
Listening to: Explosions In The Sky - All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone (current song: It's Natural To Be Afraid)

ibanez_god:Here is a reason why what is happening is happening

Not an asteroid...its the planet Nibiru it comes round every 3500 years, look up The Sumerian tablets

Sometimes it smacks earth other times not.Experts say the gravitational field of this planet 6 times the mass of earth is pulling the earths water towards it creating catastophic events

Y betcha ass y not gonna hear that on the newz!

Then again maybe its bullshit lol

ibanez_god - that would not be a good thing!! There are some very powerful tornados and that's rare in February. We don't need an earthquake.

Within the last 2 hours, my house has had a near miss 4 times. Tornados forming up within 3 or 4 blocks of my front door. Tennis ball hail though! Bad news for the roof.

I just watched the 60 min vid, HE EVEN ADMITS HE CAN'T DANCE OR SING OF WRITE SONGS DAMN RIGHT YOU CAN'T, then they can say they tried really really hard, IF THEY DON'T WRITE THEIR OWN SONG THA'T NOT HARD WORK. And when Chris martin is dancing around stage I want to punch him. And he needs studio work to sound MEDIOCRE on stage he is crap, nuff said.

>.<

Ok, has anyone else ever though about this?.......Joe should do a jazz album sometime....because he could easily be the most outstanding jazz guitarist ever if he recorded it....and maybe give ZZ some early attention on that sax.....

JOE swag on sale at Fanfire - bottom of page 1 and on page 2.

the link takes you to page 2, so just go to the previous page. It won't take the link for page 1 for some odd reason.

OK - nevermind that link - it expired - just go to www.fanfire.com - apparel is the sale stuff
