A Cowboy Named Bud

A cowboy named Bud was overseeing his herd in a remote mountainous pasture in California when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced toward him out of a cloud of dust.

The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, RayBan sunglasses and YSL tie, leaned out the window and asked the cowboy, "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, Will you give me a calf?"

Bud looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?"

The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his Cingular RAZR V3 cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.

The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg , Germany.

Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses an MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response.

Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer, turns to the cowboy and says, "You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves." "That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says Bud.

He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on with amusement as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.

Then the Bud says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?"

The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?"

"You're a Congressman for the U.S. Government", says Bud.

"Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"

"No guessing required." answered the cowboy. "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You used millions of dollars worth of equipment trying to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don't know a thing about how working people make a living - or about cows, for that matter.. This is a herd of sheep. ...

Now give me back my dog."

From Maxine

Think about this one:

1. Cows 2..The Constitution 3. The Ten Commandments

C O W S

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

T H E C O N S T I T U T I O N

They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq .... Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore.

T H E 1 0 C O M M A N D M E N T S

The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal,' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians...It creates a hostile work environment.

I bought a ticket this morning to see Sammy Hagar in San Diego on Cinco de Mayo. It looks like it's just a one-off show...probably his last before Chickenfoot.

michelle - How's sleep deprivation working out for you? ;-)

I went to bed at 6:30 or so this morning and woke up shortly before 10 (to buy the ticket I just mentioned). I don't feel too tired now, but I know it's going to catch up to me in about six hours when I'm in the middle of my shift at work. Oh well...

maritime - Relax? But Chickenfoot is new Satch! What's wrong with a little discussion? ;-)
Boone - That paint job is very cool...
PeterG / GlenGuitar - Joe's next tour will be with Chickenfoot, and if I had to guess I'd say it won't start any earlier than mid- to late May. We don't even have a release date for the album yet.
Zinc Master - That's interesting about INXS, but I bet we don't know everything. I'm sure he signed some sort of contract as a result of entering/winning the show, so something like this shouldn't surprise him...especially if he was doing drugs. And on top of that...winning a spot in a band through a TV show of all things just isn't something you should plan on being able to depend on forever...argh.
cosmic_ape - The more I look at the Chickenfoot logo the more I think it looks like a car hood ornament...but I still like it.
Listening to: Sigur Ros - ( ) (current song: Untitled 4)

Do The Stu

I watched some of that show for the new lead singer of INXS - why would an Auzzie band want a lead singer from this side of the pond?

The music was ok - but not great.

Doesn't surprise me as to what happened - plus the drugs didn't help - didn't that have a factor in their prior lead singer's death?

Too bad - I liked the old INXS and hoped for more good music from them.

Try holding the the pick closer to the edge, it helps on some of joe's faster parts. And the parts that really need to be precisely in the right spot at the right time. You know, now way out parts.

Austin, I think I'll be able to go to Paul Gilbert's concert... I'll let you know for sure by the end of the weekend...

I love the logo... to me it looks more like a squared peace sign than a car hood ornament...

I have been a fan of yours since 1987, I saw you in San Diego, Cali., in 1990. I just wanted to let you know that, with this situatuion with that british band, is regretable. They will never compare to you. You are in a league of your own and will go down in history as the greatest guitarist that exist. I still buy your cd's and continue to rock out to your material. You and Stu, have inspired me in my music and as a bass player. Just wanted to let you know that you are not just a little guitar player, Your The Guitar God that inspires millions. C u In Dallas, Tx. when you come back Joe!!! Keep up the awesome work!!! Tom-e-ree.

Just for interest since jeff beck is mentioned , anyone remember Joe's posting in response to someone saying a Beck song sounded similar to Rubina. (i think it was the drumming at the begiining) Joe posted dates of when he wrote demoed and recorded then saiid maybe you should ask him (beck) about that one.

I drive all day so have plenty of time to ponder and this one is bugging me. I tried the wayback.com , great to see od posts pre 2000. it was somewhere after the red (joe satriani) album before crystal planet.

How cool... Zane Lowe just mentioned Joe's name (in relation to Hammet) on uk telly. It's a 50 guitar legends show but I've missed most of it. John Frusciante is at 6, Matt Bellamy at 5, Kirk's no 4.

So what are the chances of JS being in the top 3?? Other than slim of course, you know how these lists go...

Andy of UK - I think Jeff B & Joe have previous. I remember Jeff slagging of AWMAWY, which I just thought was dumb as it's such a great piece

JS1200JS1000 - was it black?? ; p

Do The Stu - looks like they hit the US in July. Portland on the 10th, and San Fran on the 13th. Suprised they're brave enough to do SF : ) I think Joe/Mick/someone should call in some favours for comp tickets and then Joe/Jeff/Galen/Stu/Mick/Chad/Michael/Sammy and all can turn up for the front row.... along with whoever you round up LOL

Childish but fun anyway

I got a Planet Waves circuit braker cable as a present today. It's quite a sexy looking cable. No chance to try it yet, but wonder if it'll make any tonal etc difference compared to what I have been using - any one here used one (apart from Joseph)?

... and just for info, the top 3 was: Page at 3 Slash at 2 Hendrix at 1 (fair play on this one)

Excessive INs: I'd kick him out of my band if he was doing drugs. I never really understood why they went for an american singer anyway, made no sense to me. I think they just did the TV show for promotion and to find a decent temporary singer. They should see if Noiseworks singer Jon Stevens is available again.

Phil...who said Frencie could sing either? I'm thinkin you'd fit right in :) and I hope you keep that promise and squeeze out a few more days next time, geez! As for CP....are we talking a covert op? I see they're kicking off their tour in Clark County...could mebbe form a posse and go kick some butt I suppose, but I'd hate to buy a ticket that they'd get monies for...maybe if we just wait out back by the bus :) Nahhhh...but it's fun to think about, lol! Hmmm...if I can be the "cheese-inator" I might give it more serious thought!

Austin, I really liked Katherine Heigl in "27 Dresses". Saw that on the plane coming back from Ireland...there's nothing better to do on a bazillion-hours flight but pace or watch the movies, lol....cute lady, cute movie.

Zinc...gotta love Maxine, lol!

As to the Chickenfoot teaser....gotta love it...left me wanting more of course, which was prolly the idea...crafty, that, lol!!

I hope you've been able to embrace the name Chickenfoot by now Joe...I know you said it probably wouldn't stay that way, but, unless there's a big surprise, it's lookin more and more official.....it's taken root I'm thinkin! Whatever you end up calling yourselves, it's gonna rock and we're gonna love it!!

BRING IT!!

And a lil somethin mellow for bedtime... blast from the not too distant past...

Ooooohhhh picked up the Fender acoustic today, it's LUVVERLEY and so much easier to play compared to hubby's old one. Can get C and F easily. Can see it's had a lot of playing because the black paint on the fingerboard is worn down to a pale brown colour between the 1st and 9th frets but it is perfect and I am happy with paying $152AUD for the geetar, bag, strings and capo (not that I know how t use that).

Now to practice, practice, practice.

Love the Chickenfoot teaser Joe!!
