Cube : 6 songs missing for 100677 members.. terrible statement bro.

I'm supposed to get a Firebox Presonus Cubase system next week. I stop with analogic tascam. Too much breath.

Just a thought.. maybe some of us could do a second song for t2jcd3, if this option could help to conclude this trip.

Mike : Ok my friend. I'm waiting for you.

Austin, I got Portnoy's dvd In Constant Motion today. Pure feckin' genius! He is to drums what Joe is to guitar. Absolutely brilliant with their instruments. No time to watch all SEVEN hours of it (lol!) so I started with disk 2. I don't even have time to watch all of that right now, but what I've seen is mind blowing, as always, when I watch him drum and explain the songs.

If he would go on tour with Joe, they could call themselves Blue Beard and Baldy!

:- )

So am I the only person who finds it funny that this site has more than 100,000 members, but a troll is able to come here and take the username "Coldplay" because, well, no one else thought it was one worth having? ;-)

CommodoreDrake - Hi... The easiest thing to do would probably be to just go down to your local music store and have a look around/ask questions. I'd recommend starting with an acoustic, to learn the basics and get your hand strength up.

One thing to keep in mind is you'll get what you pay for. So don't spend $1,000 on something that's nicer than you know how to play, obviously, but at the same time you don't want to buy something for $50 that isn't a nice enough instrument to keep you interested.

Since you don't have much experience with music I'd also recommend taking a few lessons at the music store, just to get you going.

Other people here will probably have advice that's completely different, but that's the beauty of this site I guess. ;-)

cheese101 - Thanks for the old Satch...
michelle - Yeah, that DVD rules...I don't even think I ever made it through all seven hours of it. I'd have to go back and check.

I really love that DVD and then the "making of" DVD that came with Systematic Chaos...it's really cool to see how MIke Portnoy organizes all the little pieces of the band's sound.

While I have you hear I'll say that I have some Pennsylvania-related questions for you...I'll send you an e-mail sometime later today, if I have some free time...thanks. :-)

Thanks Ibenez and Stu. I guess I'll start looking. I had planned on going acoustic initially partially because I love the sound of acoustic guitars. Well when and if I find one I'll be sure to let ya'll know.

CommodoreDrake:As above....Have t say tho, if you have enough money t buy a quality acoustic guitar from day one do it, apart from owning an amazing piece of workmanship that holds its retail price & in most cases quadruples over 10-20 years, its something that can be passed down through generations. You may feel guilty for feeling your talents dont amount t what an expensive guitar is all about but dont let that bother you....think of it this way....when y own the best Elec/Acoustic craftmanship out there y cant blame it on the guitar if you suck..k.Quality not quantity all the way

Also, I haven't heard of Porcupine Tree. I'll have to look them up.

Cosmic_ape--Thanks for Rosenberg Trio music.

Mr. McKenna--When are you going to ask M. London out for an evening? I'm surprised you haven't gotten together to jam.

Michelle--Something strange has been happening in this forum and it seems to be following you. Silly troll! It should know better than to interrupt Mighty Michelle! She could turn on it with all her guns blazing! Woooooo Hoooooo!!!

CommodoreDrake - step into my office.;0)...........I started learning guitar on 28 Dec so it's only been about 8 weeks but maybe this wil be useful to you.

1. Plenty of kind and helpful people on this site who tolerate all the dumb questions I ask and provide helpful info and tips.

2. I got hold of an old acoustic to use and started learning chords from the Dummies Guide to Guitar. It was a pretty bad old guitar but good to see if I was going to continue. Last week I got a 2nd hand Fender acoustic off ebay ($150) which is perfect and lovely to play so now I practice on that. There is usually someone with a guitar you can borrow.

3. I got the Hal Leonard book on ebay and there are also a heap of websites for beginners, e.g. justinguitar.com is a good one. You can get any song up on youtube if you want to hear how it is meant to be played.

4. I spoke with all the people I know who can play guitar and asked them about chords, notes, practice, what order they learnt things in etc. guitar palyers are always keen to talk about it

I try to practice 20-30 mins per day but being a Mum sometimes that don't work.

Hope this helps.

A lot of guitars play nice, but the more you learn about them the more you realize you need to check for intonation, tuning, pickup issues and all that crap...

I bought that cheap Ibanez and I thought it was very good until I bought the prestige one, and I realized the tremolo was shit... It plays great, I love the neck, but I have tuning problems... and I swapped the pups, too...

Now, I know better... being lefty means you don't get to try guitars, so you end up buying off the internet... now I'm hunting them down and playing as many as I can find... The GC here in Hollywood has 5 lefty strats, I only like two of them, and only one feels "just right"... If I had the cash, I'd get right now...

Oh, being broke... gotta love it...
