yes, I am safe after being invaded by screaming teenagers and soccer moms... I had arranged everything so I didn't have to leave the house at all yesterday, but the wifey got a gig she could not refuse and I ended up stuck in traffic anyways, grrrr...

Austin, I feel you man, I absolutely hate my job... It is the most meaningless shit I have ever done and the worst part is that I probably have to suck it up for at least two more years until I'm done with school... I am glad to hear you were born in May '83, so was I!!!

Skippygirl!

Shame, shame, shame. You can't possibly say that and not tell me WHICH vinyl!

I almost bought another js3 a week or so ago. But told Rich as I couldn't get the money, so he got it. It would have been a fight for it if I could have got the money.

SuperSwingDog--Great news to hear you have work! Hope all goes well.

Michelle--How are your kittehs doing? Is that funny guy puffing out at any noises, sights or smells lately? That was a great post some time back when he puffed out when hearing "that ghetto shit" lmao!! Cats are great entertainers!

Tracie--Happy birthday to your Chris! Wow! Twenty-one and staying on the Satchland road! I hope to catch up with you on that happy road to Satch heaven!!

Skippygirl, Slans, Al Mc--I love playing my guitar. I'm learning Pete Townshend's riffs to "Shakin' All Over". Ry showed me how to set the heel of my hand on the bridge to mute the low E string, A and D strings. Then I go E,E up an octave to E,E (4th string), open D,D ; B,B (5th string) and repeat. It sounds so coool!

Maritime--The lies, fraud, shredding of the US constitution and the complacency of government to checks, balances and needed regulation as well as Guantanamo have been so embarrassing to me. I was beginning to think the real United States of America was dying from the inside out. That's why I voted for Barak Obama and he is in office now. We had to take his word on faith that he will turn this country back to the rule of law and gain back respect from our allies that was lost at least since 9/11/01! We approached that tragedy so badly, I don't know where to begin to untangle the snarls of despicable lies and fraud involved! We were supposed to approach that attack as a criminal case NOT a case of war. How do you get through to a fraudulant President Bush that it was a Justice Strategy to be pursued NOT a war strategy??? The oligarchy we US citizens find ourselves in now is a mockery of what we were. That's why the middle class (or what is left of it) must organize and be in continuous contact (if necessary) with our elected officials in Washington, DC! It looked like you brought a concrete wall to this forum to ensnare us US citizens--NOT SO! I guess you just wanted to see who is awake here. You are still a Dutch Brother among brothers. ;-)

Mikesb--Thanks for the Simon and Garfunkel, The Boxer--great song. So many great ones.

Joe--I have 8 of your albums on CD and it's not enough. Wish I could just buy all the rest, but my savings keeps shrinking and I've been losing hours at work--no work, no pay! I am determined to set a goal for each month--at least one. I'll see where this takes me.

My Steve will be celebrating his double nickles birthday on Wednesday. I wish I could give him a cure for epilepsy then. It's so tough. Three doctors and no answer yet---what to do??? ;-/ What I can give him is tickets to see Zappa Plays Zappa in Santa Cruz next week on Wednesday. It should be a good concert.

Jeff Beck will be at the Fox Theater in Oakland on April 23. Tickets went on sale yesterday.

Glitz Man: yesterday was an emotional day for all of us. Heath winning supporting actor was cool and inspiring, watching his family recieving the statue , I thought Mickey Rourke was gonna win best actor for the Wrestler and Marisa Tomei as well. ...btw 2009 is going to be a good year for movies: Inglorious bastards, Harry potter, terminator, etc etc etc and Watchmen,

Stu the Do: interesting about that band Lotus, there was another one by that name in the 60s, and also a little known (I think Australian but not sure) ambient electronica outfit that is impossible to find any information about due to the other two.

Chee101Tracie--No one plays guitar like Joe. He makes it look so damn easy when it isn't. It looks like the guitar leads him to all the notes, phrases, moves, everything! His expression of music is so compelling, I can't get enough!

Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie, Steve Morse, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert and all the other guitarists whose names I can't think of right now share a brotherhood that spans the universe! How great is that? The personas are only a glimpse of what is really there. Behind all that is such a love of music driven by the generations from centuries past into the 21st century and beyond.........It makes me want to wake up every morning and start a new day and shake off the dark and dismal. Pick up where I left off the day before.

Let's meet on this road where music and friendship, brotherhood and sisterhood intersect. I want to meet new people and make new friends. I want to let go of the old and put on the new. With or without the horses of yesterday. And how I love horses!

On the subject of band names and Wikipedia (sorta related to my post to Artanis I below), are there any heavy Wikipedia users here? The site's page for Chickenfoot links to a Firefox extension, not our band.

Once we know for sure that this is THE name they're going with I think we need to do what we can to get the page names changed. There's a note on the Firefox extension's page that says it doesn't meet notability guidelines so it should be an easy argument, but who knows...

hybes - I forgot to mention this earlier, but I actually started working in sports. I pulled all the stats/standings from the AP to do the scoreboard page, and I also talked to high school coaches on the phone and did short write-ups on their games. I had a lot of fun doing that, but things at work started to change and I realized I'd have more job security if I switched to news.

I love the type of work I do now, but I miss sports every now and then...

cosmic_ape - I got my Paul Gilbert ticket in the mail today...have you decided whether or not you'll make it out to the show? I can pick you up on my way there, if it makes it any easier for you...let me know.
Artanis I - I heard about Lotus from a friend about four months ago, and it was hard to find out anything about them because of the 60s band. Wikipedia wasn't very helpful either.

Have you heard of Three? They're a prog rock band, and what's funny is there's a prog-ish ELP side project from the 80s with the same name. And there's a third band with that name that has some popularity, I think. So confusing! ;-)

cheese101 - What did I tell you about posting links to Satch in Long Beach for NAMM? Argh...!
GoldenGirl2 - Have you heard of Porcupine Tree, by any chance? Their music isn't like Satch or Vai by any means, but based on the way you describe what you like about music I really think you'd really enjoy them.

It's really hard to describe their sound, but I guess they could be considered a modern Pink Floyd.

Listening to: Guns N Roses - Appetite For Destruction (current song: My Michelle)

I haven't listened to this album in a while, but man, do I have every note memorized.

Does anyone else have albums like that?

I don't think this one would even be the best example for me...I'd probably have to go with Aerosmith's first six studio albums.

...Austin...

Cheesey - that was a nice vid link, ta for that. If I could get to the point where I played from the heart like Joe I would be stunned with myself :0).

ibanez-god - question for you oh guru of guitar!. When you were learning did you learn to strum songs first or to pick? The Hal Leonard book focuses on picking the notes of all songs and does that with musical notation only so I have to note with a pencil all the actual notes so I can practice. It provides the chords for strumming as well but not the strumming guide so it is hard to work out how to play the songs with strumming. at this point I'd be happy to strum a song so at least I can play something!!

slanshroom 'the horrible cunt' and ibanez-god: I saw those versions as well, didn't want to give the wrong impression though :)
DoTheStu: Had a listen to Lotus, I can see what you mean as well. Nice mix of styles. Super Colossal is a bit like Appetite...for me.
ibanez_god: I take it you like The Pisstols then? I had hum as well, but it turned out to be pedal transformers on an xtension block I use. Moved it awa, no hum. At least, I think it worked. Only heard it with wah though, nothing untoward through normal use.
maritime: Thanks for noticing, we pride ourselves on wit. And cricket. (although we don't do really that fantastically well at that)
Glitzman: happy birthday! Much the same with me...give those legs a good rest, they deserve it!
Recorded by radio show yesterday, and yes I put Summer Song and Revelation in. Hopefully with a few more stealthily slipped in, we may have some new members.

Listening to: Searching by Joe

I would like to get a note to Joe, and I am hoping this is the proper place to do that. I wanted to let you know that my father loves your music. We spent a lot of time listening to it together, and also watching the dvd's. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and passed away on 1-29-09, 8 days after the diagnosis. On the last day of his life, I asked him if he wanted to listen to some music. He said, "Satriani." So I put in the Live DVD and he wanted to hear 'Ten Words'. It was a very beautiful moment for us, and something I will always treasure. Your music meant a lot to my dad, and I just wanted to let you know that it brought a few moments of joy to us in such a terrible time. I will miss my father every day for the rest of my life, and I take comfort in the fact that when I listen to your music, somehow my father is listening somewhere with me.
