cannibalmatt - Cherry Lane released a tab book for PSATMOR a few months ago...

Skippygirl - Thanks for the note. I had a bit of a bad cough for three weeks or so. It was weird because usually when I get that I have an ugly sore throat to go with it, but that didn't happen this time around. So I guess it was maybe something slightly different? Who knows...I'm better now, and that's all that matters. ;-)

I saw your comment about learning acoustic guitar...YES it's so important to get your hammer-ons and pull-offs straight. You'll discover the sweet spot behind each fret that make your hammer-ons sound the best, and you'll get in the habit of "plucking" the string with your finger as you do your pull-offs. Once you get that plucking thing down it'll make it so much easier for you to do two-handed tapping stuff. Have fun! :-)

michelle - The Spice Girls? Have you heard Paul Gilbert's cover of 2 Become 1?

And man, that's a close call on the road...glad you're OK!

The Caesar - Hi...welcome to the site. I think Joe played Indonesia a few tours ago...it's not somewhere he goes with each album, but he does play there on occasion so keep looking.

For info on how to do the harmonic scream that Joe does so often, check out this video from his appearance at the Guitar Center in Hollywood last year:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwLLFbps1m0

I think the stuff you want to know starts at about the 7:00 mark, but you'll learn a lot if you watch the whole thing...

Yknow... It's VERY interesting that the arguments FOR Satriani vs Coldplay go like:

The Chord progression is identical because.... The Melody is the same because...... The Tempo is the same.

And the arguments against Satriani are:

You are a b&*^*%*#(*#%^#... and I don't like your music....

..... What compelling arguments from the Coldplay camp.. ooh I think they make some good points there, they've almost convinced me with those hard facts.... :)

ibanez-god - right, I can go to your mic session thing and play Kumbaya at this point :0) but hey I'm aiming high so maybe it won't be too long.

Funny thing is, being an ordinary suburban mum etc I reckon I'm going to look like Jamie Lee Curtis in Freaky Friday ( you have to have daughters...) when she has to play lead guitar in place of her daughter (Lindsay Lohan) in her band for the band comp. LL screams at her "just pretend you're Keith Richard!!!!!!!!" and JLC starts grooving from side to side like the guy from the Archies cartoon - in other words I'm NEVER going to look cool playing guitar so I might have to go the Buckethead way........

Good news is the Hal Leonard book arrived today and started reading it at the hair salon - lots of songs I reckon I can tackle.

You must be pretty good to play Midnight etc??????? Any vids?

Excellent Guitar Center Sessions vid. Thanks Austin.

Also, thanks Michelle for the Coldplay 60 Mins vid link.

It's a funny thing; I've followed these guys since they were starting out and always expected them to do well. I really liked the direction they were taking. One time (on a Late Night with Jules Holland TV show), I saw the guitarist wearing a Rush tour shirt which immediately sent them up in my estimation.
Now there's this whole 'they nicked Joe's song' thing going on. I don't know whether they did or not (I somehow doubt it) but I guess the fact that they could have (because Joe recorded a very similar melody first) is all that will matter in the final outcome.

Hi all, been some time. I guess I just never had the time to keep up so I didn't bother trying. Seen some familiar names on the last few pages, good to see!

My take on C**dp**y: (sorry for my bad language haha) catchy simple songs not really anything new or complex, kinda like Nirvana was. They have a nice sound. I enjoy quite a bit of their stuff, mostly from X&Y. When I heard Joe had a complaint about *that* song, I hadn't heard it so I checked out the 'tube and was gobsmacked!!! Holy Crepes! I also thought "man this song is pretty boring and uninteresting" but then Grammy for best song my taste must be poor. Surely it's the same thing over and over again? Dull. Anyway, if it was unintentional (which happens, how many awesome ideas have I had, only to later realise I'd copied someone else?) they could at least apologise or something and not be bottom-holes about it. It's pretty freaking obvious it's the same bit of music.

Joe: congratulations on finally winning a Grammy!!! You're awesome.

Man I never realised how boring Mr Schenker is to watch. Bass player is almost carrying the stage presence by his lonesome!

I don't know how many times I've listened to Joe's Grammy winning song (If I Could Fly) lately. I think the reason I like this song (first 2:30 mostly) so much is the acoustic+electric combination. Other tracks like "The Traveller", Vai's "Dying Day" and a handful of Tommy Emmanuel testify to this.

Hello everybody and Happy 200th Birthday to our sixteenth President Abraham Lincoln.

Do The Stu: The winner had a time of 16 minutes and 18 seconds. I was about two-and-a-half minutes from the winner. By the way, I am a fan of some of U2's music (sorry to disappoint you Al). Did you see their opening performance at the Grammys? I think it was quite good.

SuperDaveMcCarthy: How's the band and music going? We have had our 48 hours of warm 50-60 degree weather here and now it is back in the 30s. Hope you and the family are doing well.

Zinc Master: I have been running for 12 years and counting. I started running since the seventh grade when I did junior high cross-country and track for my school(s). How long have you been running? I love to run. It releases my stress, it's a hobby, etc. for me. When is your Valpo-Mini and is that race filled up, or is there any open entries? By the way, if you want a challenging/awesome race, check out this running website: www.fort-4-fitness.org. We had a huge turnout for the first year. Hopefully the second year will be better. I'm planning on doing the half-marathon again.

Cheese101: I know how you feel. My parents kind of do the same thing. They prefer to stay inside and keep warm and watch movies. For me, I will either run, listen to music, or even do sudoku.

Skippygirl: Maybe it was my tye-dye shirt that caught a lot of attention. As for my next race this upcoming Saturday, on Valentine's Day, I think I am going to aim for that time again, but I want to try to get a faster time. By the way, I won't be wearing the tye-dye until future races. I did wear it when we had our first Fort-4-Fitness Half Marathon here in Fort Wayne and a lot of people were commenting on that shirt. They liked it a lot and wanted to have it. Hey check out this website: www.fort-4-fitness.org. Maybe you could travel over in the U.S. and do this event. We had over 3,000 people doing this. People all over the U.S. came, and hopefully some folks from out of the country will come as well. I'm planning on doing the half-marathon.

Blue_Moon: Best of luck on your test Al. We're all pulling for you and you'll pass. Let us know how it all went down.

Big Bunny: Didn't see Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman, but I did check it out online. Man, I couldn't tell if that was him or some "paid" actor portraying him. Weird!!!

Michelle: Thank God and Jesus that you and your husband are okay. We would all hate to lose you both. What a laugh/joke on the "SPICE" thing.

punkdude75: Can't wait for the Oscars. Of all these awards show that are aired on television, the Oscars is probably my favorite. I have my picks on who is going to win this year.

Guitarman77897: How's life treating you these days? You would do anything to make a mock of Coldplay (amazing).

The Caesar: Welcome to the T2J fan site. Do you have any favorite Satriani songs? My favorite is all of them.

Hybes: How are you doing since the those tornados in Oklahoma City? I hope you and your family are doing well, as well as all the people down there in OKC. By the way, were you living there when the Oklahoma City bombing occured? I am still baffled that this happened. I remember that I was in the fourth-grade and some of my teachers and students and I were talking about it.

To all the Aussies: Prayers to all of you and I hope all of those wildfires will end really soon.

To all the Canadians: One more year and counting until the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. How cool is that!?

Well, I better stop now. I have work later tonight in the restaurant. My boss/friend keeps changing my work schedule around. Now I'm working all different kinds of hours/shifts.

Wish me luck this Saturday/V-Day (another 5K Run). This run is the official start of the Points Race with the Fort Wayne Track Club. Time to defend my age division title and go for a three-peat. I will let you know how it all went down. See ya!!

Glitzman: 17th or 15th, who cares? You still did very well out of 250...:)
DoTheStu: Wow, I thought the mentioned website was just an urban myth! Wonderfully innocent site...:)
ibanez_god: 'gig' sounds good, interesting song headless, not sure it's one of my favs though.

civ...hiya....what else am I gonna be but chee....I saw something in my email the other day though...at the very end was a quote that said...

"cheese comes from cows"

At least I finally know where I came from =| The phrase "Old cow" comes to mind........

Glitz....I enjoy Sudoku myself from time to time. I figger I've gotta do something to keep the neurons firing or they might blink off fer good....

SupaaDave....as for our resident ghost (I fergot I was supposed to tell u about this...so much fer the effects of Sudoku)

I bought the house from a sweet little elderly lady. Her husband had died in the home and she'd been alone for many months and decided she wanted to move to the coast to be closer to her kids. So in we moved.....and of course with us came noise...guitar, amp, you get the picture. Nothing happened at first, never gave it a thought, except for the fact that every so often I'd get a very strong wiff of maple syrup in various parts of the house...with no actual syrup in sight. But didn't think much of it.

Then one day...Chris is in the kitchen, I'm in the living room, and a small picture my gramma had embroidered fell off the wall to the floor. It said "Bless This House". I fussed at Chris because I thought he'd done it, picked it up and put it back on the nail and walked into the kitchen with Chris. We both heard the picture go down again....but first we heard it scrape UP the nail before it fell. Metal on metal. I picked it up again and looked at the nail, thinking maybe it had fallen downwards and that's why the picture had fallen, but no...it was still secure and in an upright position in the wall. The picture had to TRAVEL UP THE NAIL to have fallen off...nothing wrong with the hanger on the picture either, it was solid in the wood frame. And then a very strong smell of syrup. We were just a tetch freaked at that point, to say the least....

The next day Chris and I walked around every room of the house and said our own house blessing, telling the man thank you for the beautiful flowers he'd planted, the nice house he'd provided, but that his wife had moved on and it was time for him to move on as well. We thought maybe that would take care of it......

But the following day, Chris was home alone and when I got there from work, he was outside with huge eyes. He'd just walked down the hallway towards the kitchen, and as he walked he heard loud thumping on the wall behind him, following him down the hallway. There was no one else there. I took him inside thinking nahhhhhhh....but there was the smell of syrup again....and a few good thunks that I heard...I guess he was making a point, LOL....I grabbed Chris and some clothes and out the door we went to my parent's house for the night.

We ended up having our minister come over for a proper house blessing and I think that did it...although every once in a great while I still smelled maple syrup for no reason. But no more flying pictures or noises. Found out long after this that the man had really enjoyed pancakes in his last few months he was alive....and also found out his wife had passed away. I like to think he went off to finally be with her again and take her home.

So that's my ghostie story...and funny thing is, I'm not afraid anymore. Proved to me without doubt of existence beyond this life...thank gawd cuz I've got certain people I need to hang with over there fer like....ferever :)

cheese...that's pretty wild. I've never experienced anything personally. Except that maybe once in a while a certain house gives me the creeps and makes the hair on my neck stand up. There are tons of incidents up here, in particular certain homes that were built accidently on Native American burial sites or Indian-owned property. There are people buried all over the place up here dating back 10,000+ years..

Yeah, it does sound wild doesn't it. But actually in comparison to other things I've heard about, it was quite tame :) I know other people who have had experiences and I believe in all of them. When we were with Joe in November for my son's lesson, he told us his cool ghost story....THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!! lol!! Even rock stars can't avoid them!

Glitzman--Thanks for the post. I'm still looking for "Dreaming #11, Flying in a Blue Dream, The Extremist, The Beautiful Guitar, Time Machine, Joe Satriani, and G3 Live 2005 Live in Tokyo.

DoTheStu--Please ask Al McKenna why he does not like U2. I LIKE U2 and have 3 of their CDs.

IBANEZ_GOD--Thanks for checking on the song, "He ain't heavy...He's my brother"! I love that song. I will look up the Hollies.

SkippyGirl--If anyone tells me playing guitar is easy, I will have to disagree with them. My fingers hurt! But I wouldn't trade my practicing time for anything! I will think about what you said about playing electric, because I would love to have a Strat or equivalent for a beginner. I was admonished by my guitar teacher for not practicing enough. It hurt, but it's true and I have to discipline myself so I stay with it. I will get through this.

Steve and I will be with my family this weekend to support my brother-in-law who is going through bloody hell because of the hostile take-over of County Bank (by Westamerica) where he works as a commercial loan officer. He lost all his retirement savings at 48-years-old! My heart aches for him so Steve and I are going to cook healthy meals for him and the kids and my SF sister (visiting) and me mom. My younger sister will be at her father-in-laws place taking care of him due to his limited mobility.

I don't post very often but i would just like to say a thankyou to Joe for the music, and the people that come to this site quite often:Satriella, Cheese 101,Anibur etc. Logging into this site has become a comforting thing to do as part of an everyday relaxation ritual. On February 1, I was admitted to the emergency room being violently sick. To cut a long story short, my kidneys had shut and after much testing, probing, a kidney biopsy showed I had been poisoned with ethyl gycol (antifreeze). This was about 4 days later. The police are looking into it and they as well me have been trying to figure out how it could have happened because I'm definately not trying to off myself. My prognosis is good, I'm still in hospital but I have to undergo dialysis 3 times a week. When I was able to get internet access it was very comforting to come here and see all the familiar stuff going on.Listened to some good music today in the sun, including Joe and life felt really good. Enjoy the music and be nice to each other! Thanks to my unknown friends.
