Just in case...
Things to do, or not do, when you get a pink slip
1- Get mad. Go home and grieve. Have a really good cry. Slam tennis balls against the wall. Scream. But do it once. Do it thoroughly. And then move on. Do not cradle your grief.
2- Share your situation with your loved ones. Focus on the good stuff. For at least one day, make a conscious effort to erase job and money woes. Hug your family and friends - it's an amazing tonic for self-pity.
3- Do not rush out and spend money. Shopping won't make you feel better. Make a budget. Watch for sales. Clip coupons. Do not run up your credit card debt on the theory that you'll pay it off later. Be frugal.
4- Sign up for unemployment benefits if you're eligible. You apply online in the state where you worked. If your pink slip includes severance benefits, bank your state jobless benefits in case you really need them in the future. If you're let go without severance payments, work hard on your household budget; your state jobless benefits will be less than your take-home pay has been.
5- Find a list of job-loss support groups in your area. Pick out two or three and attend the meetings. You'll learn a lot about the local job market and get job-hunting tips from fellow attendees.
6- Do not plan to suspend job hunting for weeks or even months. Make job hunting your job one. It will help you to be as busy as you can be. And even if your first contacts don't produce a job, you'll be in the pipeline and familiar with the routine.
7- Network. Use gatherings at your religious institution and at your fraternal, club or community organization meetings. Be positive. Don't moan about your job loss, but do mention that you're in a job search. Be brief and specific about what you do or what you're interested in doing. Don't be so needy that people shy away from you. Be confident.
8- Get up every day at the same time. Get dressed. Use the Internet, the newspaper, business magazines and conversations to get a bead on industries or organizations that are hiring. Do NOT spend your time huddled over the computer, firing resumes out to anything and everything. That will just depress you. Target your applications very, very carefully.
9- Take a subsistence job. Nothing is beneath you if you need the work, especially if money worries or idleness are concerns. Sometimes an entry-level position in the service industry can morph into a management or professional position.
10- Volunteer. Lots of nonprofit organizations are strained by an influx of needy clients. Get out there and help. It will make you feel better to help others, and it may produce some networking opportunities that could turn into a job.

G'day Joe, hope your day is great.
Hi all. Thanks for the welcome Anibur.
Do The Stu: I'm from that island where the Tasmanian devil comes from... Tasmania. It's across the water from Victoria where the bushfire chaos went down. Strangely we had our hottest temperatures ever the week before the fires broke out and then back to normal, but unfortunately the mainland stayed in a heatwave.
Coldplagiarism: Viva La Fraud (Or Satch And All His Notes) haha that shirt looks brilliant.
Slansh: she looks a sweet thing. Every good man deserves a beautiful wife.
Al: you don't want those pills man fouck man i shot the cop man was just picking up some supplies for the bike man its wicket you know in canada anyways talk later wolf2
PS every good woman deserves to be a beautiful wife

Amazing :) and well deserved!! I can't even begin to imagine how that must have made Joe and the guys feel.

Wow Wroclaw rocked! Would have been great to be there.
Maybe like being at the MCG for a Socceroos World Cup qualifier - 100,000 people screaming for the same team and feeling happy.

punkdude75 - Yeah, I'm REALLY psyched about the next Dream Theater tour. ZPZ will be amazing, but I'm also very excited about Pain Of Salvation and Beardfish. I don't know if you've heard of either of them, but they're well worth checking out.
Listening to: Spacehog - Resident Alien (current song: Candyman)

SURVIVOR ANNOUNCE PLANS FOR NEW STUDIO ALBUM:
from melodicrock
Survivor--Robin McAuley (vocals), Frankie Sullivan (guitar), Marc Droubay (drums), Michael Young (keyboards, guitars) and Billy Ozzello (bass)is currently hard at work at studios in Chicago and Los Angeles on a new studio album which they hope to release by the end of the year.
Singer Robin McAuley joined Survivor in 2006.
Guitarist/founding member Frankie Sullivan knew he was the perfect person to front the band. “When we made the decision to replace Jimi Jamison,” he explained, “I had no idea what we would do. Then it hit me--Robin McAuley! Is he available? How can he possibly be available?! Can I be lucky yet again in my career to work with such a talented singer? Well, the short answer, he was available, we gave him the songs of a set list we would perform, he came to the Windy City and blew our socks off! Robin is a pure pleasure to work with and he's such a great person. With Robin, what you see is what you get. And boy do you get it!”
McAuley continued: “I'm very excited at this opportunity to sing for Survivor. I can only hope the Survivor fans give me a fighting chance. Frankie and I have worked together in the past I am extremely excited to start writing with him again and playing with a great bunch of guys. This new Survivor promises to be full of energy, and with such a stable of awesome tunes to pick from, who knows what each show will bring. I'm ready!”
The band's website is found at www.survivormusic.com for info, photos, sound and video clips, and more.
