Scubadaz:- I totally agree with your views on the Wolf. Thanks for sayin' it simpler and better than i ever could.

Cube:- I'm not worried if Wolfie comes to Oz. Personally, I'd love to meet the guy in the flesh coz better to judge a person you know rather than a faceless name on web. I guess I'm just concerned for his state of mental well being. As i said, I've lived with someone with schizophrenia, so my concern is genuine. By the way, thanks for your concern about my sacks contents! And yeah, you're right about McKenna being scarier. Anyone who willingly does to their body what he has is definitely more dangerous than Wolfie!!!! LOL!!! Still love ya though,Al ;-) C'MON AUSSIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Al, what sort of weird addicted/obsessive fan would fly around the world to attend concerts?

You'd have to be a right nutter.

If you have a method of minimising cost, then you'd take it wouldn't you? You'd be made to pass up a legend concert if it doesn't take much money to go see it.

;)

Hey Abdul: All I can say is "Build in and they will come"...

Not sure if any of them will bring a guitar from Joe, but I'm pretty sure someone will go there.

scubadaz: Ok, how tight should the pressure pad screws be? Obviously I've got them tight, but how do you know if they're too tight?
maritime: Don't worry, you can never look gay to us...unless you start talking about, er, no.
Interesting factoid for the day: the German word for diarrhoea is 'durchfall', which when translated literally means 'through fall'. Nice.

T - how was the movie?? You and Mum alright hehe?

Saw Gran Torino last night, really enjoyed it, so different from your average "Clunk" movie and great ending.

Joe - the fretboard (to this Dummy) is like a 'magic eye" picture. Hidden all over it are heaps of related notes, or families of notes, but positions of them all escape me. Was it the same for you when you first began?

I'm going to make dozens of photocopies of the fretboard diagram and mark out all the groups, scales, key signatures etc. so I can start to memorise where they are instead of counting up the frets from the open string notes etc.

And how the heck do you know which G (or any other note) it is from the musical notation?? Which string??? aarrgghhhhhh...................

Skippygirl's post about the dots remind me of one of my favorite movies "Slingblade"...The scene where "the band" if you can call 'em a band are sitting around and one of the guys says" The dots are where I say they are". Just took me back a little for a laugh. Thanks. Actually even though they sucked as a band, in real life they are all musucians, most notably Dwight Yoakam and Ian Moore...Well I'm off to see the wizard.

Hiya burly - I just googled a heap of fretboard diagrams and will print them off tomorrow and start to really understand where all the notes are and how they relate.

I'm trying to learn to pick notes but nothing is in time cos I have to keep referencing which note it is and which string. I wrote all the letters of the notes under the musical notation to help, but then you get different octaves of notes and I got lost again.

5 am? are you a postman or you just like seeing the sun come up hehe?

Skippygirl: use TAB (Tablature) notation to start with. It's a whole lot easier.

With "normal" notation, the notes are important, but they typically refer to a certain note that in most instruments can only be played one way (ie: a piano has only 1 middle C). For a guitar, it doesn't really matter which "middle C" you hit when you are starting off.

Skilled guitarists (not me!) choose the particular middle-C they want to hit depending on a whole bunch of things. It could be right after a long slide up, so it may be right up the fretboard near the body, or maybe they want a different tone, or they have a particular run they want to play in one hit, or combine with an open string. The latter cases are more likely.

I've also seen heaps of examples where "official" tab for a song doesn't match what the artist plays. Take the official tab for Super Colossal album - for Ten Words, the second "echo" of the tag line is shown on the first 3 frets around the high E string, but if you listen carefully it sounds wrong. When I saw Joe play it on videos and live, I saw it around the 9th to 12th fret on the middle strings, and when you play it there it sounds so much better.

So the "correct" note is really a matter of expression, and or convenience or necessity... :)

mind you, I'm still a beginner, so that's all I've managed to work out so far.

You can also learn to "Sight read" tab a whole lot quicker than standard notation. At least that's for me. I guess the side effect is you become lazy and don't learn the notes as you should.

PS. Did you consider my email any more Skippy?

damn maritime, you gots more flowers right there than I've gotten in a lifetime, lol.....they sound purty, and definitely just the thing to cheer a space up. G'ahead, be gay if that's what it takes...spring flowers are lovely and much better than the snow and ice we have currently going here!

Skippy....I guess we did survive that damn movie but I scelped (screamed and yelped) a few times and grabbed me mums hands....I have a bowl of nuts still sitting around from Christmas and she decided to crack and eat a couple....she had a hard time getting them cracked so I jumped over there to do it for her, next to her on the couch, and then I stayed right there!! Great excuse to huddle and have her protect me!! lol! And she laughed at meh fer jumping but I don't care....the boogie mans dint get us :)

It's a disturbing movie...most of it is not as intensely scary as I thought it would be, but the last 10 minutes or so makes up for it...gah.......

I really, really want those 60 minutes back that were stolen from me yesterday...my body is still on non-function, shut-down, energy-saving mode and refuses to move!! It's gonna be a long-ass day...........

F-In Law update: After making him fast all day (till past 4 PM) last Friday and again yesterday, cutting him off most meds since last Wednesday in preparartion, and then scrubbing his surgery because of "tired" docs and shortages of anesthesists, he is playing the waiting game again today... Considering what he is up against pretty cruel treatment in my book.....

Mike..praying for the father in law, hope all goes well.

Skippy..4:30- 5:00 A.M. is normal for a farmer. It makes for a long day going until 9:00P. Ok so it's 9: 30 A here. What time is it it Australia?

Darren sorry to hear about the JS 1200. I know what you mean by difficult times. This thing really looks scary for the U.S... I think it is worse than most people imagine. We are seeing city and county governments struggling, and the military is training for "Urban assault tactics" in case of failures of municipalities or God forbid even higher up. We all need to pray for each other. Maybe things will turn up here in a while. I think some good people are working on it, so I have faith.
