GG2, my musical journey could not be comprehended without the work of Joe Satriani... I wish I could say I have good musical taste, but I'm just learning...

Austin: If you do make it all the way to Roswell you will most likely have to drive by Ruidoso, a nice and small ski resort that by this time has everything except snow, with some very lovely forest scenery and small lakes. I love going there to unwind, sit by the lake at the Inn of the Mountain Gods and do nothing.

You could also stop at Alamogordo and visit the Air and Space Museum, which is a "mandatory" trip for the elementary and junior-high schools in Juarez, White Sands (which is just that, dunes of white sand), u can easily kill a couple of hours there.

In Alamogordo I liked the Aquarium and Old Town, Santa Fe in general is also nice, Truth or Consequences has a nice big lake, and of course when you're driving on I-10 between NM and AZ you must stop at The Thing. You can't miss it and u can't beat the price either ($1 or $2 can't remember)

It is sad that I can't recommend you come over to visit us in Juarez, unless u want to be shot at! But seriously the security situation here, while not unlivable, does make it very dangerous for foreigners. Hopefully by the next roadtrip!!

Phil, you would be correct :) Mine I say!! Chris gets to pose with them to have his picture taken and that's IT!! NO cheese-it germies get on the guitars, lol!! He's rather perturbed with me over my collection vs his....I let him visit them though, I think that's rather nice of me :)

Now...you really MUST stop bringing that movie up or it might come true...nooooooooooooo!!!

D_O_M thanks very much for the great link...the news part was the same bits we've already seen, but the pics were something else...did anyone else catch those interesting pics of Joe in Bearsville, NY 1991??? Dressed in the cool leather jacket, the fuzzy warm hat and workman's boots? Standing in front of what looks like a shed....but maybe it's a studio, whaddoo I know....LOL!!! Pic #25...gotta love it, especially Joe's expression!! He looks a titch COLD!!

Maybe that was from The Extremist era?

I also like pic #60....not necessarily for the pedal board, but fer the 'Geordie LaForge' look Joe manages to get from his headphones :) Great stuff!

Chelle...great vid of Steve, and great song...my favorite of his :)

Do the Stu...Yeah Sammy IS big in St. Louis. I still have some family up there and visit once in a while. I used to be through there all the time and you coudn't turn on KSHE 95 without hearing a Sammy tune. They absolutely love him there. It has been that way since the early 80s. I would probably try to go just for that reason. He had a big show up there last fall but I was busy in harvest.

Pip...You were the one with the pic of Joe gettin' a hug. So the comment about everyone loves to be hugged by the drummer was for you;) Good picture of the boys.

Lucas...Buddy please get help if you are seriously having these thoughts and visions. Please see a physician.

I am beat folks...I'll try to get back in tomorrow..Have a great night or day for you down under.

hey roo - yeah, it has been a looong while. in fact, i remember joe mentioning you way back at that first webcast/chat we did in 1996!

the more things change, the more they stay the same. today was an amazing day with the guys here at rehearsal. i can tell you unequivocally that it is sounding BIG and it is sounding GOOD. capturing lots of video and lots of photos which i promise will make their way to y'all soon. so far we are laying low and letting folks get their chickenfoot info through the rumor mill but soon it will kick into high gear and come from the source.

webmaster - As always, thanks for the info! I look forward to seeing the photos/video.

Blue_Moon - Thanks for posting that Cortez The Killer video again...it never gets old.

And looking at your recent posts, it seems you've had a good St. Patrick's Day!

hybes - I've been asked the DMB question a lot here over the years, but I never really take the time to give anyone a proper in-depth response. I just wrote something big that I'll post after this...I figure if it's in its own post it'll be easier for me to link to it in the future. Hopefully some other people will find it informative as well...
elpp - Wow...thank you very much for the info. I'm actually planning on staying in Alamogordo for at least one night. I thought it'd be a good place to stop since it was right next to White Sands, which is on my list of stuff to see. I hadn't thought about the Air and Space Museum, but I looked it up and I think I'll add it in. And The Thing? That sounds right up my alley. :-)

Working at a newspaper, I've read a lot about the recent security problems in and around Juarez. It sounds pretty crazy...I hope things work themselves out soon. Like you say...perhaps by the next road trip!

burly - I love KSHE 95...I listen to it all the time when I'm in the area visiting relatives. I used to listen to them online a few years ago because they broadcast Rockline, and I found myself listening quite a bit in addition to that show.

Have you seen Sammy in concert? I've been a fan of his solo stuff for years. I saw him with Van Halen in 2004 but didn't catch a solo show until last summer (opening for The Scorpions...he blew them off the stage). I have a ticket to see him at the House of Blues in San Diego on Cinco de Mayo, which may very well be his last pre-Chickenfoot gig...I'm psyched!

USAEAGLE - That's not cool.
cosmic_ape - You're close, but I think we actually owe it to everybody to find out where the band is rehearsing. ;-) Man, how I'd love to be able to watch one of their jam sessions...
Skippygirl - I hope Chickenfoot makes it to Australia somehow for you. Van Halen toured there in 1998 (no Sammy, but Mikey was there) and Satch has been there a bit in recent years so maybe it'll happen. Have the Red Hot Chili Peppers ever toured down under?

Picking a favorite Dave Matthews Band live album is nearly impossible, as there are so many to choose from! But if I had to select one for a new fan, it'd be one of these three:

- Live At Red Rocks, 8/15/95 (Morrison, CO) [CD]
The band had been playing gigs for four years by this point, but this is only the second year they toured nationally. So there's a rawness and energy here that just isn't present in their later live shows. The entire show features Tim Reynolds as a guest on electric guitar. (FYI, the band released another live album a decade later from the same venue, Weekend On The Rocks...don't get them confused.)

- Listener Supported, 9/11/99 (East Rutherford, NJ) [CD and DVD]
This tour features the band near their creative peak. They sound tighter here than they do on Red Rocks, and they stretch out and jam more as well. The show features Butch Taylor as a guest on keyboards on most songs, and the Lovely Ladies (a group of three gospel singers) on a few songs.

- The Central Park Concert, 9/24/03 (New York, NY) [CD and DVD]
This particular concert was the last show of that summer's tour, and the band sounds pretty polished. The gig was free and they played in the park in front of about 90,000 people. Guests include Butch Taylor on keyboards for the whole show and Warren Haynes of the Allman Brothers Band/Gov't Mule on guitar for two songs (one of which is a cover of Neil Young's Cortez The Killer...a video of Satch and others doing that song has been posted here a few times).

All of these shows include their cover of Bob Dylan's All Along The Watchtower. They do a rather unique version of it...it starts out like the original and then morphs into a jam that kind of resembles the end of Stairway To Heaven (it's not as crazy as it sounds...both songs have an Am-G-F progression).

All three shows also include Warehouse and Two Step, two of the band's best live songs. Red Rocks and Central Park include Ants Marching, the band's quintessential song. And Listener Supported has #41, which is probably the favorite of the band's "jam" songs among fans.

The Dave Matthews Band has released more than 20 live albums over the years (9 on a major label that are available in stores, the rest through their website as part of an archive series for die-hard fans). On top of that, they've always let fans record their live shows...their sound guy even let people plug into the soundboard in the early years. So there are hundreds of audience recordings to choose from as well...I'm only scratching the surface here.

If you want, you can stream low-quality samples of all of the band's music on their website, http://www.davematthewsband.com/. So maybe get a taste of the different feel of these live albums and then go buy your favorite.

And let me know what you do and don't like, and I'll give you more suggestions.

...Austin...

Hey Jon,

"Just a minute... I'm modeming....." hehehehe

that was funny, handing the pizza around.

You have my contact details, please let me know when the pre-shows are on, I need to sort a trip to the US again soon and will try and make it around that time.

Last time I was over there I just missed Joe, he was touring in florida or something. It was late last year, I was about a month early, before they finished up in CA at the end of Satchafunkilus.

I'll catch up with you then ok Jon?
