Message from Cappy

Please extend my thanks to all the good peeps who offered prayers and goodvibes for my better half and myself. For a cynical old salt I'm quite touched. (Some have always said I'm a bit touched LOL).Seriously though, many thanks to the wonderful folks on T2J.Thanks also to the maestro for drawing us to him and his work.... and thanks of course to Slan the man for being a pal

Soap On A Rope:
This is my favorite of the two songs...I think it sounds a bit faster than the clip we've heard, but maybe it's just me. But I like it more this way. And it's acronym is SOAR...how cool is that? :-)

I like Joe's first solo here, with the ascending riff...it sounds very Aerosmith-like to me. And then the second solo sounds similar to Joe when he plays with his teeth at G3 gigs...I wonder if he's doing that here. ;-)

Mikey's backing vocals sound great here, and the chorus sounds like it's straight out of Van Halen (I'd say it rivals the best of the DLR-era stuff).

Joe's outro riff is great...the style reminds me of the riff at the end of Jump. And then the way the vocals come back in remind me of Runaround.

I don't like the drum SOUND here, but I hope that's just a result of the low quality of the streaming audio. I love Chad's playing...the style is very Bonham-ish, but tight, and I dig the bass drum fills.

Down The Drain:
I think it's interesting that the intro here is the same as the teaser...I thought that would've just been a rough demo cut. It's nice to hear it in a song though.

This song sounds to me like a cross between Van Halen's Up For Breakfast (Sammy even mentions that phrase in the lyrics) and Joe's Just Like Lightnin', with a bit of Hill Groove thrown for good measure.

I like how this song builds up to something, but I don't think it gets there fast enough...and then when it finally does change, I think it's too drastic.

Mikey stretches out a bit here, which he doesn't do often, and I like how Joe finds room for his guitar between Sammy's vocal lines during the vocals without being overwhelming.

The chords at 2:49 remind me of something, but I can't place it. Does anyone else know what I might be thinking of? I want to say it reminds me of the band Live, but I don't know...

I like the guitar solo here, but I think I might like the drums in the background a bit more...

The songs in general:
Joe's playing in general sounds a lot like what he does during the G3 jams. It's not my favorite aspect of his playing, but it is very fun and I think he does a great job with it here...I love it.

Some of Sammy's vocal lines seem a bit awkward to me (I'm sure they'll grow on me after I hear the album as a whole), but other parts of the songs sound like he's been singing them comfortably for 25 years...and that's way cool.

Anyway, everyone, which song is your favorite? (webmaster - Maybe you can set up a quick poll on the site here?)

scubadaz - Haha...we're not ranting just because you like Summer Song. I like it too...it's just something to talk about. ;-)
cheese101 - Happy birthday! You are now twice my age...congratulations (until I turn 26 in two months). ;-)

::runs away before you can sock me::

Pip Satriani - Weekend? Ha! I was off Wednesday and Thursday, which means Friday was my Monday. This isn't a weekend... ;-)
jblaze1 - "Wow,I am wayyyyy behind the times.I just picked up Satchafunkilus."

Yeah, you are...Joe is in a new band and everything!

I love PSATMOR too, though...what are some of your favorites from it?

slanshroom - Thanks for the update!
Listening to: Chickenfoot - Down The Drain

I've been waiting a long time to be able to put that here. :-)

Damnit, I HATE the "what is your purpose" greeting as much as it is possible to hate something.I always forget that it is there, and it blasts out of my speakers.

CFoot doesn't really grab me right now. That type of rock is just not my thing.

Hello to you all!

I've got a hella lame first post here!

I've been working on "Lights Of Heaven" for a month or so now from a power tab file, was going really well was hoping to use it for my grade 8 and A level performance.

I came to trying to get a backing track at the start of my learning the song and have had really bad luck so far. I brought one CD which was "100 Joe satriani Backing tracks" Of which 99 of them are very good, and lights of heaven just sounds very amateur and rushed, obviously ive also spent a lot of time searching the web with very bad results also.

Anyway help would be so uncomprehensively appreciated! Please Email me at chrisnaylor6@hotmail.co.uk

JSPhil: What, hills in the South? Wow...thought it was all flat down there ;) You might find this useful Turbos. Just got back from the first MTB ride of spring, and it was grey and misty. Typical, a week of wall to wall sunshine, I get my mtb out..and bam Mist. Can't beat hills though, best bit of cycling for me, apart from hitting 30mph on the flat (yes, I managed it for about a nanosecond...:) Good vids as ever...why do I never see these adverts?
