It’s wonderful to see that much blue these days. I hope you didn’t miss the opportunity to tempt Jeff for the next G3 line up. I’m looking forward to the CF gig in Madrid. Hope we can meet there.

JSPhil: That sounds good to me...I thought about that last year whilst watching the tour. There was a guy who followed the tour all the way last year for charity, must have been a wee bit hard as fudge (was going to say **** then) Trouble is, I reckon loads of other people will have had that idea as well :)
Isn't it a bit weird hearing Joe talk about Jeff Beck the way we talk about him?! Great to see he's still being influenced and inspired though...
guitartreckie: hey it's learning curve in this place....we all went through it at one point :)

Joe......Great to hear from you....Jeff Beck is right up there at the top of my list of greatest guitarists for sure......Page and Clapton are right up there with him.....yet, that genius and tenacity shine right through in Beck, that rare sparkle and ability to show how far he can go with his guitar.....tough call to say who is at the top.......Joe, you are the one most qualified to say so.....a great genius guitarist makes the greatest of fans! Another paragraph in a chapter of teaching!

I am looking at ticket stubs from 17 Sept. 1995. My Steve and I saw Jeff Beck when he toured with Santana at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View---one of the best SF Bay peninsula venues. I remember how awesome that show was.........I couldn't take my eyes off of his guitar and hands.....instrumentals rule as far as I'm concerned.........no disrespect to all the vocalists out there.......I just love the beautiful sounds of guitars, amps and pedals! Carlos Santana invited Jeff to come out on stage to play a song or two with him, but true to form, Beck turned him down. I think he did it out of respect to Carlos because their styles are different and maybe he just didn't think it was appropriate at that time. Just guessing.

Guitarvibes---Hi, dutch brother. I feel like you are nudging me in an important direction.......Telling me to wake up and get out of dullard land! I wish it was that easy......sigh!

Joe---What's the other Jeff doing these days? Ya know--your brother-friend, Mr. Campitelli? He is one of my favorite drummers besides Chad Smith, Steve Smith and Deen Castronova.

GGirl: It's going great, thanks for asking. I've just reached a sort of middle term goal of mine (thanks to Mr.Vai). I'm learning For the Love of God at the moment (well, trying to) which is harder than it sounds to learn by ear!! Just got invited to join a newly formed band with a friend as well, so it's all coming together nicely :) I can't remember when I first became aware of Joe, I think I read an interview in a magazine and thought 'Hey, I'd better check this guy out' I bought SWTA and it snowballed from there...the rest as they say is history :) Joe, Steve and Paul G are fantastic at providing inspiration for me, and that's the key for me guitar wise; listening to inspiring music and then watching the time fly by!

Well, you've succeeded in making me ramble like I never have before so....(my apologies) :)

I´ve just heard that this Influenza thing is just a distraction from the gobernment; It´s not that serious, perhaps there is something underneath the water. This kind of stinks. Perhaps there is something we haven´t noticed.

Thanks Skippygirl! I was first introduced to Joe Satriani back in the late 80s. Randy Rhoads was my hero, and I remember staring at the fretboard thinking, “somehow, it all happens here!” Anyway, I bought an issue of “Guitar For The Practicing Musician”, and was totally lost with all the technical ramblings. But one lesson in there actually proved to be very interesting! It was Joe’s lesson on “Octaves”. Simple as it may seem, but he made it very interesting, and I remember playing octaves all day long! I had never heard him play the guitar, but it was obvious he was a tremendous teacher, and knew how to communicate theory -and more importantly, make it fun and inspiring. Around the time “Flying in a Blue Dream” came out, I met a friend who taught me some scales. He was a huge Satch fan, and there I was introduced. I loved the whole album, his bluesy expressiveness and passionate technical style. One day, he (my friend) was playing “Not of This Earth”, and freaking out over “Driving at Night”. Then “Rubina” came on…and that was it for me – I was finished! He made me this compilation tape (those were cassette days for me!) and I would listen to that song over and over. I was so glad to get the cd, as there was a worn spot on my tape from excessive listening to that song! (seriously). To me, that has to be the single greatest studio moment for any guitar I’ve ever heard. I would challenge any guitar player to hit “that legato phrase” (Joe fans know) even close to the way he does in that recording. That phrase, and solo, along with Randy’s live “Goodbye To Romance” are my favorite guitar solo moments. It would be tough to single out other favorite Satriani songs. I think “Echo”, “The Forgotten”, “I Believe” ( what a solo!), and of course the popular “Always With Me, Always With You”. I haven’t listened to Joe in a while, but look forward to checking out his new material. I’d been away from the guitar for some time, and bought the “Live San Francisco” dvd. I loved it! And it reminded me just how much fun you can have with a guitar!
