I like the vinyls because you know they are original and that there is a finite number of them. One of I have of Joe's was a 33rpm promo LP of Satch Boogie for SWTA and inside is a wonderfully written marketing letter to the radio station (or whoever) tellling them how Joe is the next sensation in guitar and that a special alien pick was included - really great stuff you can't get with a CD I reckon.

Plus, like the Time Machine LP it's great to read or enjoy the cover which can seem to provide so much more than even a CD slip cover.

I am just setting up the new home media centre thing and will definitely get a turntable component so I can play the vinyl as well.

burly - 'morning!!!!!!! Wakey, wakey. I'll find out about the rice planting and get back to you.

Glitzy?

My brother in law used one of these new USB record players to put some of my father's old vinyl on CD. And even without the typical pops and crackle (the software takes them out) it absolutely sounds like a record. It is very pleasant and much more relaxing to listen to. And I was surprised by the overall sound quality. (I had not heard vinyl for too long I realized)

Joe - Thanks for the extra info on Andy. Don't Dream It's Over is such a huge song...I knew you had done some work with Crowded House on that album, but I didn't know Andy was involved with that song.

Blue_Moon - Yes, I finally bought that Satch compilation album (One Big Rush, I think it's called)...I got it the afternoon before I went to the Paul Gilbert gig back in February.

And I have a nice size laminated poster-size Ibanez ad that's Satch in the red leather jacket, just like the "Blue Steel" picture you posted. I'd like to see Joe bring that back as well...haha.

cheese101 - If I had to guess, I'd say Best Buy was pushing for the vinyl. Their exclusive deal with Guns N Roses included a vinyl release as well...they sell records for more than CDs and their profit margin is probably higher, so it's good for them. I can live with that.

It's the bonus track that bugs me a bit. I don't have a record player, but even if I did it means I could only listen to the bonus track at home. I can listen to the rest of the album in my car and at the gym and as I'm walking down the street. I'm OK with things like limited editions and exclusive releases, but I wish the format didn't restrict when I can listen to the music once I already have it. I know you can convert it...but if everyone is going to do that, why not just release it in the other format in the first place?

Sorry, I'm being picky...

...Austin...

Do The Stu - can't sleep or still partying? How is the search for work going? I notice Warren Buffet just said at the shareholder meeting that he wouldn't touch a newspaper in the States at the moment .

I just had to play Don't Dream It's Over - I never knew that Andy Milton from The Squares sang with Joe on that. Can't believe it was 1986! Such a shame also that Paul Hester the Crowded House drummer committed suicide a few years ago here in Melbourne in a park, apparently he had suffered from depression.....

Austin Picky - I'm sure I saw that when one gets the vinyl version you are also supplied with a card so that you can download the digital version. The thing is, I suppose, does the digital download also contain the extra track? Mebbe superfan DTS can find out.

SuperSwingDog: Yes it's pretty cool and pretty close to where I live as well! Weird....:)
I think Chickenfoot would sound great on vinyl, my dad's still got LOADS of LPs including the proper 'Jimi Hendrix Box Set' thing, with just about everything hendrixy you could imagine. Great stuff....and it sounds a lot better than digital....long live Vinyl!

Listening to: Redshift Riders by Joe (half trying to learn this, again it's harder than it sounds....to me anyways :)

Cosmic Ape- Thanks for the info on Mixo songs. It helps me a great deal to know what direction to head as far as the scale. I am very slow at tabs but once in a while I will decide I really want to learn a particular song and commit to learn it. Like Riviera Paradise. This is a beautiful song that just really grabbed my interest. I wish tab books would denote modes and scales. I think I could get a better mental picture of the direction that a particular section was headed.

Growing up I never really wanted to play anything other than Blues or Blues based rock or maybe I did just never ventured from my comfort zone. Never took lessons, but am considering taking a few from Weiner to help me with improvising in different scales as well as being more creative with use of chord voicing and double stops. I can play the E Mixo scale but would like to gain more knowledge of implementing double stops into my improv involving my new found scales.

I can't read music at all, want to do that as well. I went to a very small rural school that had a weak, weak almost non- existent music program.

I guess you could say I took the "Larry Bill" route....No, no I have to give myself a little more credit. I do realize that my guitar needs to be tuned at least once a year :-) I don't have the tele belly either.

The whole G guitar and F guitar thing brought back memories of Mind Bender. Does anyone remember that song. I think I could imagine Larry Bill talking to his guitar. This was a pretty cool tune back in the day as I recall. I bet Joe remembers.

It is sad, what happened with Andy....and Joe is right, people should step in to help their friends if they can.

But people have to want to be helped, and it has to be caught early if possible. By the time I see them, in my job, they can't be reached anymore. The drugs &/or alcohol have done the damage to the brain and that's it, there's no recovery of damaged brain cells.

I saw a guy yesterday, mid-50's...he had a heart attack two years ago. Wouldn't u think that's enough of a wake-up call? But he's been using marijuana daily since, that dint change, continues to drink beer, and admits to "sometimes" using meth, like every other day or so. And now he's had a stroke....and prolly wonders why this happened to him...hard to tell since he can't communicate hardly at all now. Who knows, might not have had anything at all to do with the booze and drugs. But it makes u wonder. He didn't want help with his addictions but now is forced into it because he can't move...so has to be on withdrawal protocol in the hospital. And he's scared. Enough to stop? I dunno. Things take hold of a person and they take hold HARD.

Austin, I think that's correct, if you buy the vinyl, you get a code to be able to go download the bonus track from somewhere....I thought about buying the record just fer the bonus track but haven't done it yet. I did pre-order my cd's but hafta wait for them to come in the mail. The closest Best Buy to us here is almost 3 hours away, bit far to go. So I decided to wait on it being shipped, and I'll be screamin like a girl when everyone else has theirs and mine still hasn't come, lol.

Joe--Since I'm fairly new posting here.......I still have much to learn. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of Andy from the Squares. I don't know enough about the Squares to comment further. Addiction takes its toll on all of us.....that's why we need all the help we can get to catch it early on, like Tracie said. (Thank you, Tracie.)

I'm proud of Alice Cooper and his triumphant battle with alcoholism......he had a lot of support from family and friends. We can't go it alone with this illness....support of friends and family is requisite.

Guitarvibes--Just wanted to bring to your attention from salon.com, the following article, "Loss of innocence for the Netherlands?" My sincerest sympathy. It just seems like such a nightmare!! I know people are hurting, yet there is something terribly missing and disturbing when they act out in distructive ways! It didn't have to be that way!! ;-(

Glad you are still kicking - wasn't sure if they took you to Gitmo or not.

Life has been good - running a lot. Family getting more numerous as well.

We went to a WWII re-enactment over the weekend - got some sun - but not too much (wore a hat and some sun screen). Others didn't plan ahead much - very very pink.

I planted a few things in the garden - more will need to be planted soon - tomatoes, cucumbers, green onions, summer squash. Maybe some peppers, but not sure though.

What did you plant?

HELLO JOE & EVERYBODY!!!

It is great to hear from you Joe. I'm glad to hear that everything is going well with you, Chickenfoot, etc. I would be an experience for me to see you perform, but as of right now, I can't because of my work and running. I hope you can stop at Indiana sometime.

Everyone, sorry I haven't chatted with you guys. I have been so busy with work at the Holiday Inn and my running. Last weekend (at the Holiday Inn), we had a huge group of Vera Bradley ladies and a Sports Team staying with us. We were completely sold out over the weekend. We also had a wedding reception to take care of. Last Sunday, I got interviewed on television by one of our local news stations & I appeared on the evening news (for about 5 seconds).

Three of my races are out of the way and here is how it went:

4/18/09: Shoe-Sucker 7 (7.46-7.5 Miles) - 4th overall and 2nd in age division. My time was 51:20

4/25/09: Mastodon Stomp 5K - 11th overall and 3rd in age division. My time was 19:08

5/2/09: The Indy-Mini (Half-Marathon) - I am still trying to get the results. I'll let you all know soon.

There is some races coming up this Saturday, but I am thinking about taking this Saturday off because my legs are still a little sore and the following two Saturdays are very important races that I have to do. Wish me luck on those.

After each of those runs that I did, I had to make a beeline back home to get ready for work. They rely on me too much, I think. Earlier today, I got called in by my boss because the person who was scheduled called off. I have to go back in later tonight & then do it again first thing the next morning.

Everyone, I hope you are doing well. How is everyone doing? Let me know what is happening.

Well, gotta run. I got to take care of some things and get back to work in the next few hours. Everyone take care, especially you Joe. I'll write to you guys as soon as I get the chance. See ya everyone!

Glitzy (That was for you Skippygirl)
