So.. very rough day.. I got the call just after Midnight last night, my Mom has passed away. I remember when my Dad died and Joe had commented on here expressing his condolences that it seemed very special to me. I don't know if Joe even has the magic shortcut to here anymore. We've never been a smaller, tighter community than we are right now through this redesign.
smooches,

Greg - dude, I am so sorry to hear that. My condolences to you and yours. I hope you find the inner strength to handle that in whatever way you can, and that Joe's music might help you through.
... and as an aside, it's such an back door effort to get signed in here now. Hopefully this bit will get revamped but as long as it stays (even if forgotten as far as a makeover) that's fine by me

xrob - tumbleweed..... lol
Great first gig of the UK tour for me last night. Joe blew a bar of Boogie and wet himself, and a mysterious (UK voltage buzz) appeared, yet only affected one channel of the amp
And it was an Ab buzz, so 50 cycles (says Joe). Most amusing
Anibur - enjoy Southend, let me know what the theatre's like. Wondering if there's an amazing coastal view from outside?

Pip, are you a Sheeran fan? I found Ed's stuff about a year ago, and now I'm eagerly awaiting news of a 3rd album. I'd love to see Ed and Joe do a collaboration, since Ed pretty much collaborates with anyone who asks (or so it seems).
Also, are you a Kings of Leon fan? I know they hit big in the UK before they hit over here. I can't get enough KOL.
Cheers

Hey Rob - can't say I'm a massive fan of his (Ed's) music, but they're all great tunes. He's a nice chap though, and his TV show appearances are often hilarious as he's WAY too sharing
SIS - Joe blew the 3rd bar of Satch Boogie, by playing it in G instead of A. He auto corrected by Bar 4, then added in a chromatic run to get himself totally back on track after he laughed his head off at himself
Then mid way through during a talky section a buzz started, but only on one channel of the amp. A conversation starts up between Joe & Bryan and they work out it was the UK voltage saying hello - it was amusing

Joe, if you ever read any of this ... WTF? Why did you leave poor wolfie to his own devices like this? Imagine what he's doing right now ... I'm sure he's been near to death several times (and his family members are probably dropping like flies), and he's surely invented a new racing sport that involves wheel-barrows full of money. That seemed to me to be the way things were all going to culminate for him.
I might be a little stir crazy. I'm in Alaska, you know. And it's getting dark. But I like to ski, so it's cool. I listen to Joe while I ski ... it's pretty awesome, really.
If this board ever makes it back into circulation, then ... Hello Internet, we missed you. :)

I was hoping this place would get a new home on the new site also... And I often think of Wolfie and hope he has adjusted to his home being taken away ( truthfully I do lol)Hopes for peace & tranquility for our world in the upcoming holiday season and beyond it.
The world just needs to listen to more JOE...
Blessings to all.

Alas, poor Wolfie......I too worry how he is going without the T2J forum.
I hope everyone in the US had a great Thanksgiving.
Only 87 days and I will be there to see Joe. CANNOT. WAIT.

Who'd believe we're all so freaked out about what's happening with poor Wolfie?! Surprising sometimes the things you didn't know you cared about, huh? I too was imagining all the "news" we'd missed about racing sponsorships, new engines he designed/built/raced, all the meds and the money... hope he's ok. Really.
Buying my VIP for Toronto tonight (FINALLY!) and get to shake Joe's hand and get him to write my name on my 2nd place poster, plus get MM & BB & MK to sign it as well. Giggity!
Hope everyone is good?

Okaaaayyyy...
What the heck was Joe thinking about when he wrote "Hill of the Skull" ?
I know he has stories and meanings/experiences behind most of his songs, if not all. So am curious about that one.
Why? Cuz we just found Surfing With the Alien on vinyl, sounds awesome :)
Wish all of Joe's albums were available on vinyl....now looking for Flying in a Blue Dream!
Hi Joe....if yer ever around here anymore that is...see you in Reno!

Tracy I may be wrong but I believe it has something to to do with Golgotha-"Calvary, also Golgotha /ˈɡɒlɡəθə/, was, according to the Gospels, a site immediately outside Jerusalem's walls where Jesus was crucified.[1] Golgotha(s) (Γολγοθάς) is the Greek transcription in the New Testament of an Aramaic term that has traditionally been presumed to be Gûlgaltâ (but see below for an alternative). The Bible translates the term to mean place of [the] skull, which in Greek is Κρανίου Τόπος (Kraníou Tópos), and in Latin is Calvariæ Locus, from which the English word Calvary is derived." (from wikipedia)
I believe I read that in an old interview but I could be wrong... not making assumptions about Joe's faith or what he was trying to say but it is a moving piece of music.
At risk of sounding crazy I just have to say sometimes I wish I could just give Joe a grateful hug . From one human being to another . Because I am grateful .My life has taken some turns I did not expect lately. I have been feeling very wounded and wronged by some one I never would have expected and I have been near "the end of my rope" or at the very least tying a knot and holding on for dear life .but when I listen to this strange beautiful music I often find a place of refuge and hope -many of the these songs have pulled me out the darkness and given me hope . I doubt that this will ever be seen (by Joe) due to the changes with the site but I am so very glad & grateful for our"Maestro" and the music that has been shared with all of us .

I'm also reading Strange Beautiful Music ... not sure why I hadn't before! Listening to it, actually ... it's on Audible. :)
He goes into some details on individual songs, including a brief mention of Hill of the Skull (can't remember the specifics, sorry). Maybe someone with the text will post it.

It doesn't say much about what inspired Joe when he wrote "Hill of the Skull" specifically. He talks about "Surfing" more in general and the way it was recorded.
I'm just finished the "Crystal Planet" chapter

Thanks for the reminder! I read the first (free) chapter last night and bought it (my first eBook!) tonight. I'm up to completion of the EP, loving the walkthrough. I knew Joe & Steve went back but I didn't know they went THAT far back, wow!
Loved that the first band he was in was named Michoacán.. dying to ask him now if it was a Cheech & Chong reeference?
Pulled the trigger and got my meet'n'greet for Toronto! Finally get to shake the man's hand after all these years. Epic!!
