hello all...
As a long enduring Satch fan it's been hard down here in the antipodean depths, knowing that the tyranny of distance prevents many artists from visiting our shores frequently...Joe, we need ya downunder dude - we have the grandaddy's make their call Clapton, Beck, Buddy Guy etc etc but we are starved of the "Fresh Gen's" who carry the mantle as the Grandaddy's grow old...Joe, come on down under, there's a dirth of fans down here who would support a tour and besides- the mantle has passed and it's time for you guys to shine where before the shadow hung like a pall through which you had to battle...Yourself, Steve Vai and others are wanted en masse...c'mon ..Australia is a warm welcoming place and we'd love to see ya..
cheers

Ummagumma - well he's been to Oz many times before but yes, we'd all dearly love another Joe fix, fingers crossed he can squeeze us in on the way home from Europe in October or maybe on the Chickenfoot 2 tour in 2011.
Peace - best wishes to your Dad, plenty of Joe is good in times like this, gives you courage.
M - thanks for the VH1 link, horribly frustating that it continually buffers for me (must sort that out) so I have to watch it stuttering through 5 words at a time arrgghh.

Let's see, what can we talk about? It's new music Tuesday, so why doesn't everyone list some of the CDs they've bought recently? It won't be a Satch-related conversation, but it'll be conversation. ;-)
My recent purchases:
John Butler Trio - April Uprising - I've talked about this band here before. They're a folksy roots-rock band from Australia that can also JAM. This album is taking longer for me to "get" fully, but I can tell already it's one of my favorites from the band. Check out Revolution, One Way Road, or Johnny's Gone.
Kaki King - Junior - She's a slap guitarist in the style of people like Michael Hedges or Andy McKee. You may have seen her Playing With Pink Noise video from a few years ago. This album is more of a "band" thing with vocals, but the deluxe edition comes with a bonus live DVD of a solo acoustic show two years ago.
What albums have other people here bought recently?

Do The Stu: Austin, the last CDs I purchased were Now 33 and Now Faith. I have Now That's What I Call Music CDs (a lot of them). They're not too bad, but sooner or later, I'm thinking of selling/pawning them as well as a lot of other CDs that I have. I will keep all of the CDs of Joe & Chickenfoot, as well as Maroon 5, whom I also like. I was debating on getting music from Vai, Petrucci/Dream Theater, Johnson, Hendrix, AC/DC, etc. Anything else that you suggest?
Axeshredderjc: Yes it is, Breyers is good ice cream. If not that, then I like to go for a Yoplait yogurt and they are really good. Over 20 different flavors and I eat it whenever I want. Let me know if you need any more suggestions man.
Congrats to my running friends for finishing the Boston Marathon. Next year, I'm planning on doing it, as well as Chicago, and possibly New York. Three big names/marathons; don't know if anyone did all three in one year. There's a goal right there for me.
Time to get ready for bed. Work at 5:30 A.M. at the restaurant. Afterwards, running group at 5:30 P.M. Later peeps. \m/
Joe: Safe journeys to you & everyone in Cabo this weekend. \m/

I got the new slash CD, it's pretty good, I am actually kind of disappointed with it though, but I'm a huge slash fan so I kind of expected something amazing, not just ok... But having different band memebrs in each sing gave the songs all their own style, and there are some decent riffs in there too.

Last CD I bought was Dark Side of the Moon a couple months back. Currently saving for all the summer concerts.
On a related note, is anyone considering attending the Roger Waters tour later this year? I 'm 50/50 on it.

Thanks Joe for all you do!
I recently purchased a Peavey JSX head and matching straight cab and a Vox Time Machine delay pedal. I'm so glad that you had an influence on the tonal implications of these products. I couldn't be happier! I plan on purchasing the Big Bad Wah and the Ice 9 soon... later will come the Satchurator. Thanks for providing the products that help us to achieve that soooo awesome tone!

Woohoo, we have stuff to talk about now! ;-)
Glitz Man - "music from Vai, Petrucci/Dream Theater, Johnson, Hendrix, AC/DC, etc."
I don't have any AC/DC albums so I can't help you there, but you're safe with just about anythingg from the others you mentioned. If I had to pick a few to start with, I'd go with these:
Steve Vai - Passion & Warfare
Dream Theater - Awake
Eric Johnson - Ah Via Musicom
Jimi Hendrix - Band Of Gypsies (or even better, get the expanded version, Live At The Fillmore East...both contain Machine Gun, which is one of Satch's favorite Hendrix songs)
Ninjaman - I like the new Slash album a lot...I've only listened to it once, though, because I saw him in concert recently and don't want to listen to the album while the show is still fresh in my head.
I like how Slash sounds like a different guitarist on each track, but that almost makes the album hard to listen to because there are a lot of different vocalists...it almost sounds like a compilation album. I'm interested to see how it ages...
elpp - Is that your first copy of DSOTM, or a replacement? If it's your first, what took you so long?
Ethn Hayabusa - I've had Gretchen Goes To Nebraska for years and I love it...what would be a good second King's X album to get?
Peace Lily - You're welcome. I think you said the same thing last year when I posted a bunch of Dredg sound clips. They're another band that I like A LOT...have you checked them out at all?
Listening to: The Black Crowes - By Your Side (current song: Heavy)

Valley of Neptune - but I haven't had a spare minute to give it a good run-through.
Same with a couple of Deep Purple 1993 boots - 8 discs in all and haven't had time to put em on.
I also got MJ's "This Is It" video thanks to Michelle's rave about it, and despite the fact I did not favour the guy this whole DVD of rehearsals for his tour shows how amazing he was as a dancer, I think it also showed all the sycophants around him who were sickly. And the glimpses of Orianthi are terrific.
Before that I finally got Flight 666 which I've watched few times and just love.
OK will also admit I got Series 1 of Roseanne, didn't want to start in the middle, and I have had time to watch that with the joeys who really like it, so I am sure I'll put the other series up on the fridge list for Mothers Day next month.
Book-wise I am reading "Scar Tissue" about a third in and I cannot believe how Anthony Kiedis is still alive today. He did more drugs than an old people's home, every day!
Joe - travel safe to Cabo mate, I presume Sammy's Cabo Wabo tequila is vegan so have fun, wish I could be there for the Sammy and friends and for the Chickenfoot shows but I'm sure we'll see the vids soon enough. Please remember lots of sun screen on the noggin kay?
Any blue at this point would be good....

Austin-It really depends on what version of King's X you like. "Gretchen" is a good representation of their more "prog" like tendencies, but they don't sound like that anymore. Their post early/mid 90s sound is much more stripped down and heavy. I like both sounds, but they are pretty different.
Try "Dogman" which is my current favorite. It doesn't have the layering of their early stuff, but I think it's powerful. "Dogman" is produced by Brendan O'Brien (STP, Mastodon).
If you don't prefer their detuned heavy stuff, then "Faith Hope Love" is a classic that is very layered and deep. I personally like it quite a bit more than "Gretchen..", but that's probably not a popular opinion amongst King's X fans.
I think all of their stuff from "Dogman" on sounds better, production wise.

HAHA...I just ordered some Bruce Bouillet (who strikes me as a darn fine guitarist from what I saw on the 2007 G3 with Joe) albums from a company called CDBaby...this was my delivery note...which made me giggle muchly...
Satriella-
Thanks for your order with CD Baby!
USPS
(1) Bruce Bouillet: Interventions
(1) Bruce Bouillet: Unspoken
Your CDs have been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow.
A team of 50 employees inspected your CDs and polished them to make sure they were in the best possible condition before mailing.
Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CDs into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy.
We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved "Bon Voyage!" to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day, April 20, 2010.
We hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. In commemoration, we have placed your picture on our wall as "Customer of the Year." We're all exhausted but can't wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Sigh...
We miss you already. We'll be right here at http://cdbaby.com/, patiently awaiting your return.
LOL...
