Guitarvibes--The youngins have what it takes to compose and perform......you have what it takes to teach the world huge lessons!

Nancy Sinatra wrote an op-ed article for the New York Times--"Radio Free America" from Los Angeles, Tuesday, 4 August 2009. Does everyone know why a lawsuit was filed on behalf of Joe Satriani by his attorneys with Coldplay and attorneys? This article by N. Sinatra may answer your questions. It's an issue of fair pay and lack of mandatory compensation (on Coldplay's part specifically).

When one segment of society (musicians) is denied fair pay......another segment of society (Librarians and library workers for example) could also be abused pay-wise. This may cause a domino effect--and I see in my life it already has--that further deepens the financial crisis. Retail workers are impacted and so on. When workers act in responsible ways and uphold their hours and abide by codes of ethics and bring in higher profits for the company they work for, shouldn't their company's HR and payroll departments reward them with fair and adequate compensation? When medical, vision and dental benefits are shifted from employers to a public provider, couldn't the resulting savings go to higher pay for employees??? Employers have a responsibility to compensate their employees so the employees can keep living in their homes, pay their mortgages and provide for all their modern needs in the HERE and NOW. Not stick pay levels in the 1980s!

USA and California (as well as other states) are going through financial and social hell! Our infrastructure can't take this neglect and neither can people neglect each other without dire consequences. When will we wake up to the fact we are all interdependent?

Listening to "Cryin'" and "Baroque"....the best of Joseph and Chickenfoot--"Oh, Yeah!" and "Learning to Fall."

So, in response to mikesb's post...what Satch songs out there cause everyone here to hit the "next track" button? I'm not talking about songs we're tired of hearing live (I've heard Summer Song a million times in concert, but I enjoy hearing it in the context of The Extremist). Focus on studio versions only...

I expect a lot of people will say Woodstock Jam and Killer Bee Bop, but try to go deeper than that.

I don't like Hordes Of Locusts all that much (although it was nice to hear live on the ITLIS? tour...it was something different). And no matter how hard I try, I still don't really like the title track from Engines Of Creation. I love that album, but that song seems to be the favorite for most people...and I just can't "get" it. I also don't really care for the title track from Super Colossal.

Despite all this, I'll never actually skip a song when listening to an album...I always play them from start to finish. But if I'm listening to Satch on shuffle, I might skip one of the above songs if it comes up...

mikesb - Have you heard the new Dream Theater album? I don't remember if you've commented on it before. John Petrucci has some pretty cool moments spread throughout there, especially on The Count Of Tuscany. The cool parts aren't as consistent as they are with Satch, as they're entirely different types of music, but it might be worth a listen...
WhammyFreak - Yeah, I was mostly kidding with that title. I'm sure your song will be a good one...can't wait to hear it!
michelle - A dinner with Koko? That'd be really cool...but wouldn't it be VERY messy? ;-)

By the way, Mike Portnoy was asked that question in a recent interview (here).

His answer? Jesus, Adolf Hitler, Quentin Tarantino, and Howard Stern.

I'll have to think a bit on my answers...I'll be back with that later today.

cheese101 - Remind me to never get on a plane with you! Hehehe...

9 times out of 10, when I'm listening to FIABD, I jump from One Big Rush to Day at the Beach, a 3 song skip. Then I'll avoid Ride as well. For a while I also skipped songs 5,6 and 9 on Crystal Planet, but I've grown to like them as time has passed. The rest, I'd only skipped them if they were mood breakers (say, I'm in need of a rocking tune and I Believe comes on, I'd skip it, other times it's just what I need to hear).

Hello Satchland.....

Here's my Report of the Show.....

See above.... Joe said it best. The best show ever. This group of suburb musicians are having so much fun on stage. It's such a joy to watch. They are so tight and full of energy. The showmanship from everyone is GREAT. Sammy running around the stage like a kid. Joking with Chad in between songs saying " I use to always be the crazy Fucker in every band until this one. Chad's got me beat" Sammy's energy is unbelievable. Slappin' hands with fans, wearing shirts that were thrown on stage. Than the vocals.... is there a stronger vocalist out there? I don't think so.Chad's drumming is so powerful and tight. The accents and phrasing is suburb. Michael is right there jumping on the drum riser, sharing the same mic with Sammy for harmony vocals. He had 3 cabs w/ 8 10's in each cab. Great bass sound. Than Joe..... What can you say about Joe that hasn't already ben' sad? The man is on fire at every show and puts 110% in always. I've seen Joe every time he's come to Chicago since "92" including all G3's, Anniversary of SWTA, and all meet and greets. He is the man and he's always flawless,,,,always. Expect more GREAT music from Chickenfoot. This band is here to stay and Sammy mentioned just that at the show. I'm exstremly happy for all of them. It's a special group ,of musicians that have they're own bands but still step back and be Chickenfoot. When you think of it....that's hard to do if you don't have the right peeps. They got it and luckily for us we get to sit back and enjoy THIER ride. God Bless all of them.

BTW,,,, I know Joe was going to explain his use of Marshalls for the tour. Can anybody comment on the reason he switched? Joe sounded awesome with Marshalls. The tone was great. They had Joe mixed a lot better from the first Park West show. Anybody? Joe if you'd please?

Edit.... Joe.... Quick Question.... Why don't you use a wireless system? Line 6 has a killer system I use and it's great. It actually sounds better than a cable and it's digital and the frequency band will not be effected by the new FCC change. Just curious....

Have A Great Day Everyone !!!!!!

Thanks... Joe,Sammy,Mike and Chad... You Guys ROCK !!!! No Question

I know we know this, but I'll say it anyway: Sammy is definitely one of the coolest people on the planet.

All the crap that's gone on with Van Halen doesn't stop him from wearing an OU812 shirt at the Chicago gig, or flashing the VH hand sign with Mikey at the end (see it here, about 25 seconds in...watch the rest of the video, too). It's great to see that...

Joe - Cool to see you on the drums!
elpp - Track 6 on Crystal Planet (Lights Of Heaven) was played a lot on KLOS here in LA in 1998. Funny to hear that it's a song you skip; for me, it being all over the radio is part of what made me a Satch fan.
Keniko - Thanks for your review...it's nice to hear stuff from longtime fans like yourself, who have a lot of shows to compare things to (don't get me wrong, the "first time" reviews are fun as well...but it's just not the same).

What'd you think of Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam?

And to comment on your Marshall question, I think it's as simple as Joe using the amp that makes him sound best within the context of the music he's playing. With Chickenfoot it's a Marshall, for his solo stuff it's the JSX.

Other fans are reading more into it, but I really don't think it's that complicated. After the JSX 50 is released, I wouldn't be surprised to see Joe tour with those instead of the Marshalls.

That's my take, anyway...

EDIT - I forgot to say, I love Chad's "Let me see your fookin' hands!" impression of Ozzy at about 1:05 in the video Tracie just linked to...awesome!

Somebody asked what Joe song is skipped. I have to admit, I skip Until We Say Goodbye almost every time. It just rips my heart out and it's hard to listen to. It's not that I dislike it, it's just to emotional.

2 weeks T-Bones!!! 2 feckin' weeks!!

Songs you never skip??

S.M.F., Attack, The Extremist, Searching, Satch Boogie, Time, Ceremony, Rasp. Jam....ohhh so many I never skip. lol!

You know Joe I doubt you'll never respond to this but I don't mean it in a bad way it's just the fact that you said your first guitar was a Hagstrom 3 and i know you must have dreams of getting it back and i think I might have found it! I know you said it had black pick ups and it was white and there's someone in upper east coast selling a vintage one just like you explained and it's going for a HUGE price for some unknown reason but i thought you might like to know so hit me backand i can send you the link. No offense but i want to be know for finding Joe's first guitar it would be an honor sir. Will Canada

Austin-I'll go album by Album-
Not of This-Don't really listen to it anymore, but
I really only listened to the title track on that one.
I prefer the live (dreaming #11) versions.
Surfing-Crushing Day
Dreaming #11-Crush of love
Flying-All the Vocal songs, One Big Rush, Back to Shalla Bal
Extremist-Cryin', Summer Song, and Motorcycle Driver
Time Machine-Speed of Light, Crazy, Woodstock Jam
Self Titled-SMF, Look my way, Killer Bee bop, Slow Down Blues, Sittin Round
Crystal Planet-Lights of Heaven, Ceremony ,Secret Prayer, A Train of Angels, Psycho Monkey, ZZ's song
Engines of Creation-Flavor Crystal 7.Pretty much a perfect album.

I don't really listen to anything past Engines, except for 2 or 3 tracks.
