Do the Stu - When I say Revolutionary guitar player I really mean guitarists who have delivered something to the guitar world that perhaps no one else has...I don't consider Slash a revolutionary guitar player. I think he's great and he came up with one of the best riffs in history. But other than that and his hat he has really not given the guitar world anything they haven't heard or done. Les Paul would be on my list....he's no shredder but he figured out how to make a solid body guitar and revolutionized the sound. Hendrix for too many reasons to list...EVH for his sound and finger tapping. I also put Satch on that list because he broke away from the traditional band and made solo shredding his work. Eric Johnson and many others had tried it but Satch perfected it. David Gilmore would be on my list because of his sound and style. No mistakes Gilmore for anyone else. Jimmy Page certainly for too many things to list. Edge for sure because that distinctive sound. And of course Jazz and Blues has a couple that would easily qualify.

Now if you're just talking about great guitar players, then that list is very long of course. But it's all subject to opinion. That's why you look at a top 100 list of greatest rock guitarists and you see different names and different positions all over the list. It's certainly a great topic though. One that would have a lot of different opinions.

Sorry for the double post....computer went crazy.

Crappy Steve - Ya, I left a few off. I didn't give it enough thought to list them all. But Blackmore and Lommi are kind of both right there for me as far as heavy metal goes.

Hello friends I just got back from my Honeymoon trip with my wife. We went to Puerto Vallarta and stayed at the Las Palmas by the Sea Hotel. It was a wonderful trip, the weather was very hot, I had to drink some margaritas and tequila to chill up, mi wife's pregnant so she only had pina colada and sodas lol....

gotta go, I have 10 pages to catch on..later

Cappy, I can't talk about Blackmore because I don't know much about him... That's what happens when you're from the jungle: there's a whole bunch of basic shit you don't know... ;)

Comic monkey - For me, Blackmore was the transition from hard rock to heavy metal.

Slan - Shudder known you'd come up with summat sensible! Early seventies Purple with Blackmore was something truly special for me. I'm not particularly a Blackmore fan as such but when peeps talk about influential guitarists I would say he's right up there.

Oh yeah, and let's big it up for Burt Weedon!!! Would there have been a Satch boogie if ole Burt hadn't have done Guitar Boogie all those years ago?

Hybes- It is my belief that we are blessed with many great players in many genres and many styles within each genre. When you mention a player like Slash some will say yes he is unique which I think he is , some will say he is not. Gilmour, Schenker EVH, so many great players that are recognizable to most just by playing a single note. There are way to many for me to list of the ones I admire. Innovation or creativity is in the mind of each listener. Very few players are able to span the admiration of all but some have as you well know. I am just thankful that we are so blessed.

I shall have to try beets on a burger. The only way I have tried is by themselves.

Jaysus!!! I am knackered......My Steve had 2 appointments at Stanford clinics today.......one at 12:00 to give a pint of blood to get workups done for hematology dept. doctor..........one at 1:00 to meet a doctor's assistant and Dr. Long or was it Lueng in the helmatology clinic........it took 1 1/2 hours before we got to meet the assistant and another 45 minutes before we met Dr. Long! I guess his name means waiting time is at least an hour or more??! ;-/ By the time we got to see the doctor, Steve was almost out of his mind.......I had to ask about 50% of the questions including why we were meeting with this doctor when he hadn't read the reports from the neurosurgeon and Steve's epileptologist! Also we had expected that he would have met with these doctors or spoken to them over the phone about Steve's medical history, so Steve and I didn't have to cover ground that we pay the doctors to cover! Crazy and Strange all rolled into one.......that's how I feel.....bring on the Satch songs!!

What Guitarvibes says about EVH, I agree. Too bad he has gone into hiding........hiding behind ego, personality flaws and who knows what other shite is going on........not being straight up with Mikey on history of Van Halen........not being able to say, "Yeah, Mikey, you're right. You never left Van Halen." Why he didn't answer straight is a mystery to me. Interesting interview......Sad about Eddie. ;-(

Zenf---What I said above......You are right about the miraculous gift.

Wow......KNAC.com interview with Joe was awesome and answers a lot of questions I have been thinking about.

Austin--Thanks for your postings of interviews and helping answer my questions.

Michelle--The Iron Maiden vid that you posted was something else.......Those guys play rippin' guitars in a fearce way.....they look soooo mean and territorial!!......And the audience.......they are all guys.......no women.....how scary is that???! Ya just like scary stuff don't ya?? ;-/

Cappy Steve---Yes.....Ritchie Blackmore gets me movin' and groovin'.........When Machine Head came out, I thought I had died and gone to heaven!! And Jake was there to share the listening experience with me......the best looking guy at summer school!!! All these memories of 1972!! Great times with rock n roll.....Led Zeppelin, ELP, ELO, BOC......How sweet!!

Alan BlueMc---Please, take me by the hand......take me there to the Crystal Planet......where the music of a hundred guitars rings out in sweeeeeet harmony with Joe gently leading them.

SkippyGirl--How I love ZZ's Song.....5-2, 4-4, 2-2, 1/2-0, 3/2-4.......lovely, lovely....--How can Joe's music be anything but heavenly?!

Cosmic_Ape--When you showed the map of L.A. and the locations of the Best Buy stores.....it sure brought back memories of Sawtelle Blvd. where my parents were renting an apartment back in the mid-1950s when I was born. I got to see that place as my dad drove by when I was 10 years old. The first place I remember living was a house in Canoga Park. Amazing.......different times......While back in NY the Satriani family had a month old baby boy with great promise and a bright future! ;-)

Joe--I hope you don't mind if I brag about you.......although your sisters and Steve Vai have done such a grand job of that already!!!

Chickenfoot in California? Woohoo! The cities so far are kind of odd choices, so I wouldn't be surprised if a proper LA date is still coming.

If not, though, I'll happily drive up to Berkeley. That venue is one of my favorites. It's an outdoor amphitheater-style venue that holds 8,000 people, but it's GA so there's a really cool vibe. It's on the UC Berkeley campus...

Does anyone else feel like a road trip?

bluebuffalo - I'd say all the hidden messages are just the band having fun with us. I think it's a nice change...Joe's album artwork is usually pretty straight.
Skippygirl / roo - I had hamburgers for lunch today (cooked 'em myself here at home)...cheese and ketchup were all I added. No beetroot to be seen...

I'm going to Fuddrucker's for lunch tomorrow, with some old co-workers. If they have beetroot (I doubt it) I'll try it. ;-)

fatape - You make a good point. I'm on the younger side (born in 1983, between Diver Down and 1984 in VH terms) so I guess I see things differently than people who actually lived through it all.

I would've loved to be a teenager in the late 70s...

hybes - OK, I'll give you that point on Slash...I'd probably consider him a third generation guitarist, based on the kind of music he plays (behind Joe Perry and Jimmy Page).

But at the same time, Slash is a god to millions of younger people across the country (both people in their mid-20s who grew up with GNR like me, and teenagers who only know him from Guitar Hero). So I'd say the same thing is true about him that Zenfish and I were just talking about with EVH...Slash has done a lot to keep guitar alive.

You're right about this being a great totpic...I think it'd be neat to have everyone here list their top 25 or so guitarists, and then tally everything up and see what the site thinks as a whole. If I don't find a job soon maybe that's a project I'll take on. ;-)

punkdude75 - Welcome back! What's the second-coolest thing you did on your honeymoon (assuming the No. 1 thing is something you can't share here, of course...haha)?
USAEAGLE - I'm following you on twitter now...if you look at my followers you'll find a lot of other T2Jers.

Is anyone else here on twitter? Follow me.

Peter Hodgson - Excellent interview with Joe...thanks for sharing it. I hope you guys down in Australia get a tour...it sounds like Joe's pushing for it.
