Guitarist Slash, formerly of Guns N’ Roses and current guitarist for Velvet Revolver, has been teasing fans about a solo record for some time now and it appears he’s finally about to finish it.

The guitarist posted an update on his MySpace to let fans know how things are shaping up in the studio. He writes, “Hey all, what’s happening? Everything’s good on this end. It has been a pretty productive summer so far. My record should be done next month & the recording has gone smoothly & sounds fucking great.”

“[Former Guns N’ Roses drummer] Steven Adler played on the 1st of the last 3 tracks yesterday, along with [Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist] Flea on bass. The song kicks ass & the drums & bass sound so recognizable & sound so fucking good,” he adds. “Steven is staying clean, which is great, Flea is just amazing, period. Steven, Flea & I all lived & met in the same neighborhood in West Hollywood back in the day. Yesterday, we had a great time reminiscing about when we all 1st started playing Rock & Roll & how school didn’t fit into the plan, we were like 15. Flea was the 1st one to join an ‘established’ band called “Anthem,” I remember being envious. I had a band called ‘Tidus Sloan’ but we didn’t have a singer. Sound familiar? Steven & I didn’t really have a band together until a few years later when we joined [Motley Crue bassist] Nikki Sixx’s old band “London” after Izzy [Stradlin, former Guns N’ Roses guitarist] left. Which, incidentally, was very short lived.”

He continues, “Izzy came down & played on a track a couple weeks ago, that sounds great too. It was good to see him, it’s been awhile. Our guitars together really do have a sound all their own. Besides having some friends of Eric Valentine’s come down from Northern California & play cello & violin on a track, I haven’t had any other guest musicians so far. Having Flea, Steven & Izzy play has been a real gas. There might be a couple more surprise musicians on this record I think.”

Slash recently performed his first solo show at the Quart Festival in Norway on June 30. His band included the likes of John 5 on guitar and Jason Bonham on drums and included guest appearances by Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie, and Ronnie Wood. Ozzy, Fergie, and Ronnie have all been confirmed to be making appearances on the album.

NASA is streaming the audio from the Apollo 11 mission, synched to when things happened 40 years ago. I think it's pretty cool, so here's the link:

Apollo 11 Radio

Neil Armstrong should step onto the moon at 7:56 p.m. T2J time on the 20th, if anyone is interested. Of course you can download the audio on your own and skip to it now, but I think it's more fun to follow along...

michelle - Awesome news about the new Slash album. I'm psyched to hear him play with Izzy again...they have a great Perry/Whitford Aerosmith vibe.
Blue_Moon - I check out Slash's twitter page every now and then...there's enough profanity on the page to where I think it's really him. ;-)
TheHawkGuy - I'd love to hear Stuuu...that sounds like a great band he's playing with. I won't be able to make it to that show, though, as I'm going to a lot of other concerts that week. Argh...

Slans - I can see your point of view. And anytime you play in a smoky, groovy blues bar let me know I'll be the first there it will remind me of my 20's :0). I'll need to be drunk of course, and dance in the corner, stagger home.

The music industry is fascinating - for example, we might think how can Lady GaGa sell so many units more than Joe? It doesn't make sense to me but maybe the digital age is now the time that more music markets open up and more people can hear niche perfomers and musicians - if it wasn't for YouTube and itunes I don't think I would have caught up with Joe again when I found SWTA in a box of CD's a couple of years ago.

It's Friday night yiippeee, play time!

Had a work event today for the end of the financial year - over a few drinks we each painted a small 5cm square canvas and all of them will be put on the office walls. Of course the majority of peeps did colourful flowers, geometeric stuff, rainbows, Monet-lookalikes, etc so I did the alien from the background to this web page haha there'll be a little alien amongs all the flowers and crap on the wall!

Off to see French & Saunders tomorrow night, a bike ride Sunday morning and Harry Potter. Doesn't get any better.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Joe - rest and relaxation or madly writing the next album? One of my friends is leaving tomorrow for San Fran for a 2 week holiday, I said if he runs into you to say hi :>)

Daddy's Gal - Rules for the boyfriends

Rule One: If you pull into my driveway and honk you'd better be delivering a package, because you're sure not picking anything up.

Rule Two: You do not touch my daughter in front of me. You may glance at her, so long as you do not peer at anything below her neck. If you cannot keep your eyes or hands off of my daughter's body, I will remove them.

Rule Three: I am aware that it is considered fashionable for boys of your age to wear their trousers so loosely that they appear to be falling off their hips. Please don't take this as an insult, but you and all of your friends are complete idiots. Still, I want to be fair and open minded about this issue, so I propose this compromise: You may come to the door with your underwear showing and your pants ten sizes too big, and I will not object. However, in order to ensure that your clothes do not, in fact come off during the course of you date with my daughter, I will take my electric nail gun and fasten your trousers securely in place to your waist.

Rule Four: I'm sure you've been told that in today's world, sex without utilizing a "Barrier method" of some kind can kill you. Let me elaborate, when it comes to sex, I am the barrier, and I will kill you.

Rule Five: It is usually understood that in order for us to get to know each other, we should talk about sports, politics, and other issues of the day. Please do not do this. The only information I require from you is an indication of when you expect to have my daughter safely back at my house, and the only word I need from you on this subject is: "early".

Rule Six:

I have no doubt you are a popular fellow, with many opportunities to date other girls. This is fine with me as long as it is okay with my daughter. Otherwise, once you have gone out with my little girl, you will continue to date no one but her until she is finished with you. If you make her cry, I will make you cry.

Rule Seven:

As you stand in my front hallway, waiting for my daughter to appear, and more than an hour goes by, do not sigh and fidget. If you want to be on time for the movie, you should not be dating. My daughter is putting on her makeup, a process than can take longer than painting the Golden Gate Bridge. Instead of just standing there, why don't you do something useful, like changing the oil in my car?

Rule Eight:

The following places are not appropriate for a date with my daughter: Places where there are beds, sofas, or anything softer than a wooden tool. Places where there is darkness. Places where there is dancing, holding hands, or happiness. Places where the ambient temperature is warm enough to induce my daughter to wear shorts, tank tops, midriff T-shirts, or anything other than overalls, a sweater, and a goose down parka - zipped up to her throat. Movies with a strong romantic or sexual theme are to be avoided; movies which feature chainsaws are OK. Hockey games are okay. Old folks homes are better.

Rule Nine:

Do not lie to me. I may appear to be a potbellied, balding, middle-aged, dim-witted has-been. But on issues relating to my daughter, I am the all-knowing, merciless god of your universe. If I ask you where you are going and with whom, you have one chance to tell me the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I have a shotgun, a shovel, and five acres behind the house.

Rule Ten:

Be afraid. Be very afraid. It takes very little for me to mistake the sound of your car in the driveway for a chopper coming in over a rice paddy near Hanoi. When my Agent Orange starts acting up, the voices in my head frequently tell me to clean the guns as I wait for you to bring my daughter home. As soon as you pull into the driveway you should exit the car with both hands in plain sight. Speak the perimeter password, announce in a clear voice that you have brought my daughter home safely and early, then return to your car - there is no need for you to come inside. The camouflaged face at the window is mine.
