I was bored this afternoon and started trying to figure out Led Zeppelin's Bron-Yr-Aur on acoustic guitar. I only have the first few bars down, but it's a fun song...

I was nice about it, but I don't think he's ever read a post here so I don't think he'll be back to talk about other things. I like having new people here, but...

I love I'll Be Around (one of his best vocal songs ever, I think), Lucky Charms, and Fever Dreams.

It wasn't exactly a party, but I was visiting some relatives one summer several years ago and my brother and I think one or two of my cousins got chicken pox. My parents kind of intentionally left me exposed to them but I never caught it. I guess I'm immune...I wouldn't want to take my chances with swine flu though.

Here's last years fireworks finale. We stand about 100 yards from where they set them off, so even the concussions from them being set off are fierce. The thuds let off a nice echo. The boomers at about 6:30 on the vid rattle yer rib cage and set off car and house alarms for miles. They're my fav. Nothing better than getting yer snack on, yer swerve on, then walking 2 blocks to see a kickass fireworks display for 30 minutes, then stumblin' back home with swarms of other people partying throughout the community. I call the day after the fireworks - National Hangover Day. Tomorrow is gonna be the first year we're not having or being at a party. *sigh* Guess I can still get my swerve on, but it won't be the same.

We've been watching a marathon of the Deadliest Catch all day. lol! Thems some crazy bastids!

DETROIT (Billboard) - Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer says he wrote his new book, "Hit Hard: A Story of Hitting Rock Bottom at the Top," in order "to be entertaining, but at the same to ... help people."

Kramer tells Billboard.com that "Hit Hard," which was published Tuesday (June 30), is the result of a four-year process with writers William Patrick and Keith Garde. The book, which includes a forward by Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx, chronicles the drummer's substance abuse problems, his psychologically scarring relationship with his father and a similarly tumultuous, "co-dependent" battle with Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler. Kramer hopes that the book will shed some light for those dealing with the same issues in their lives.

"My desire to help people plays a strong part in my character," Kramer says. "Because I've been allowed to do what I've done via Aerosmith, I'd like to be able to carry it on as I get older, on another level. Whatever that may be is really unbeknownst to me -- maybe some sort of a lecture series or circuit or whatever -- but I know that it will come."

Kramer says that Tyler -- whose own autobiography, "Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?," has been pushed from an October publication date to the summer of 2010 -- was supportive during his bandmate's book-writing process. "When I was trying to tell him about some of the stuff that was in the book, his comment was ... 'Hey, man, as long as it's the truth, I don't care,'" Kramer recalls. "And that's pretty much where Steven is at. He's about the truth."

Bassist Tom Hamilton, who Kramer portrays in "Hit Hard" as perhaps his closest friend in Aerosmith, calls his rhythm section partner's tome "pretty amazing. It's a really hard-hitting book ... but there's also a lot of neat references to people that we knew when the band started and things that happened that I forgot about. So it has some real entertainment value, too."

Aerosmith as a band collaborated with author Stephen Davis on 1997's "Walk This Way: The Autobiography of Aerosmith," but Hamilton says he does not anticipate each member of the Boston quintet bringing out his own book.

"Right now my passion is expressing myself through music," Hamilton says. "I think the thing to do is to be the last one to write a book. That way you can let everybody else put things in their book that are gonna make you mad, and then you can answer back and (have) the last word."

cosmic_ape - I agree about complex songs needing complex lyrics...

At first some of the Chickenfoot lyrics bugged me...the first three songs were heard are about as simple as you can get. I was most bothered by Down The Drain's lyrical theme being similar to Van Halen's Up For Breakfast, but I'm fine with it now that I know that the song was created on the spot.

Sammy can write some deep stuff, when he works at it...I hope to see a lot of that on the next album.

And about Aerosmith, Steven is clean. He hurt his leg, though.

There were reports from fans he was limping at the Mohegan Sun show, and Joe Perry's wife Billie confirmed the injury on twitter (and while I'm at it, here's Joe's twitter...the two of them post a lot, FYI).

Brad Whitford hurt himself a few weeks ago (banged his head pretty badly getting out of a car) and has missed a few weeks of shows while recovering...they've been touring with a replacement. He'll be back soon though.

By the way, Joey Kramer's "Hit Hard" is an excellent book...and yes, it's full of drugs and sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll and drugs. It's a quick read (250 pages, I finished it in a day and a half), but still very informative...and there isn't too much overlap with the band's earlier biography, Walk This Way.
