axeshredderjc your correct it should street right around the 1000 dollar range .. i still think that is a bit high.. who knows lots of highend bass companies use multi wood laminates on the basses that have incredible sustain.. perhpas this will too.. i personally think ..good luck with that one Henry

Hi everyone... I'm back from an awesome few days in Santa Cruz. I love it there...I always have a great time. This photo sums up one of my favorite moments of the trip. ;-)

Also, I discovered a new band that's pretty cool, thanks to my friend...Metric. They're from Canada...kind of indie with a new wave twist. Their singer, Emily Haines, has a beautiful voice.

I know they're different from what most people here listen to, but check out their newest single:

Help I'm Alive (album version)
Help I'm Alive (acoustic version)

If anyone gives it a listen, I'd love to hear what you think. I liked this song so much that I bought their entire discography right away...

I'm gonna go catch up on past posts now. It shouldn't take too long...there are only 100 or so. You all were pretty quiet...

...Austin...

Thanks to the person/people (I lost track) who posted the Chop Shop Guitar pages for Satch and Steve Vai. It's a nice change to hear what some more mainstream musicians think of them.

Skippygirl - Yeah, Santa Cruz is on the ocean (so is Long Beach for that matter, but there's the port here so there aren't many waves and the water is pretty gross).

You may have heard of the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz. And maybe you've seen the movie The Lost Boys...it was filmed all over Santa Cruz.

Also, the lighthouse that's my icon on Twitter is in Santa Cruz...I took that picture a few years ago.

And I fixed the links to the music...thanks (here and here, if you've already marked the post as read).

GoldenGirl2 - Good to hear silk-covered guitar strings are working out for you! :-)

You mentioned the Time Machine album...do you like Thinking Of You? That's one of my all-time favorite Satch ballads.

thefireman - Hi Ken...congrats on the upcoming marriage and baby. :-)

We don't know why Chickenfoot is skipping the northwest...it's probably the (lack of) promoters, unfortunately. You should make the trip to Lake Tahoe though, if you can...there will be a mini T2J gathering there.

elpp - Good to hear you're enjoying Minnesota!
Sylvannerese - Hmmm? Why can't you go to the show? Fans hate them, but ticket fees have been around forever and aren't a surprise. Sorry you can't make it to the gig...
Igneousiceman - Red and white? Your bike should be named Pee-Wee.
Pip Satrini - I'll rewatch your Rubina video and send you another video. Give me a few days though...I just got back from vacation and I have a busy weekend (going to a wedding).

And yes, that's the exact color/model of my bass. It looks better in person, though...depending on the light it can look as dark as black or as light as blue. Getting back to Rubina, Stuuu's bass on that song on LISF is the same color as mine (althoug his is fretless...mine isn't).

Here is a bad picture I took of my bass a few years ago, when it was newish.

Quick edit - Love your shirt in the DWCAE video...

Ozzy_Fudd - Yeah, the info was taken down from the DT site. Mike Portnoy would likely say something if the entire tour was called off, so my guess is he either posted the dates before the promoters wanted him to or some small date/venue details will change.

Wishful thinking: Maybe the delay is due to Chickenfoot being added to the bill. ;-)

...Austin...

Do The Stu - Ah! So Santa Cruz is like a beachside theme park? Cool! I love our beach carnivals here. Great at night after dark.

I love the name Pee-Wee for Iggy's bike- LOL! I also thought of:

Comet
Dancer
Prancer
Rudolph
Lightning
Flicka

What do you think so far Iggy? Any other suggestions?

Do The Stu, hey man just listened to your new find "Metric". It's not bad, I mean I listened to the whole thing instead of closing it like I do when I don't like something. It reminded me of a song from the movie "Little Nicky" I don't remember the band's name right of hand but part of the lyrics go "I feel like a newborn"

Well if anything, the plywood guitar is a conversation piece with musicians and guitar fans alike...that says something!

Just like the CF logo , Don...and Magic 8balls

Cube- lol...well if it doesnt ring like a gibson...the collectors will grab them up....definitely worth trying....though i can imagine some horror stories of how much they could end up warping...ill assume the plies are hand picked and flawless.

I posted earlier that Chad has announced going back with the RHCP after this leg of CF so Joe will be free to start on his next album?..=)...CF2?...or maybe a well earned vacation far far away?....a visit to the home planet.!?...lol....Joe's the hardest working guitarist , thats for sure

Guitarvibes--All those photos from the vid you showed were incredible. I also enjoyed the "My animated World" by Jelle Van Dun--the wall games were a great touch. I like the way the camera technique make it look like he was moving around on invisible wheels as if skating without skates! I liked the way he cocked his leg at one of those "stop posts"! LOL!Also "Books on a Shelf" by Jason Crigler was amazing. Great song. What a special life story! Very inspiring!

js1200js1000--I hope you have the opportunity to listen to "Nights with Alice" and get to several concerts this year with Chickenfoot, Alice Cooper and others in your area. Btw, I saw a movie on DVD last night set in New York State and the Canadian providence just across the border from it.

The movie "Frozen River" was about the teaming up of a white woman and a Mohawk woman both who were under duress from family tragedies of their own. What a touching/moving film! It reminded me of AVENIDA REVOLUCION (CF)....that immigrants come to the US via both northern as well as southern borders as well as from the oceans. The people who "prey" on them are equally desperate to pay for necessities--shelter, food, provision for their children! I don't often think of the border with Canada as a smuggling conduit. Call it denial and my distorted thinking of Canadian being so fair and pure a peopled country. Desperation is everywhere there are people! RUNNIN' OUT......this so hits home! Running out of income by the end of 2 weeks pay......to scrape for nickles, dimes and quarters for a few pieces of fruit and a few carrots, lettuce and cucumbers for a dinner salad. Forget about chicken or any other kind of meat! That's where my Steve and I are now! I don't want to ask my retired mom for help......but what else can I do??? Doing without is not an option when one takes doctor prescibed medications......eating is a must!

Do the Stu--Yes, man. THINKING OF YOU is my favorite song (up there with CRYIN') on TIME MACHINE! I have been so into "House Full of Bullets" from Joe's Crystal Planet this week. The legato in that song is so compellling/touching. Another favorite song is YOU SAVED MY LIFE from STRANGE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC. All classic Joe Satriani creations! PSATMOR--Professor Satch, Revelation and Andalusia delight my senses!

To all T2Jers--Just wanted to let you know that this "summer flu" as a guy at work called his illness is f**kin' serious. Bob (another library page who is so thin to begin with and lost weight to the point of near skeletal) said he went to the emergency room last week when his flu symptoms got worse and he could barely breathe. (I was reminded of Joe performing while he had pneumonia.) Bob is so dedicated and so in need of income that he came to work ill because pages don't get paid unless they show up for work (no sick days!) I noticed him last week coughing and while my heart went out to him, I kept my distance because I didn't want to catch the bug. He told me at that point he was "getting over" the flu. Then I didn't see him for about a week. Yesterday he told me his doctor (at the ER) diagnosed pneumonia and told him to stay home from work for another 2 weeks at least and gave him an Rx for antibiotics and 2 inhalers. "If I were a healer, I'd use my hands..." Sammy Hager of Chickenfoot! I so want this guy to be well! And I wish all of you in Satchland--Health, health, health!!! Please see a doctor if you are ill--respiratory illness can be serious--assume it is unless a doctor tells you otherwise and gently encourage others who cough on an ongoing basis to see a doctor asap.

Good news: Love for Jimi Hendrix is universal--example: Book for teens/young adults....JIMI & ME by J Adoff in fiction section of my local city library. Haven't read it yet, but plan to.

After great Irish Breakfast tea this morning, just checking in.

Gotta get ready for work. Take care.

TheHawkGuy--The first guy you posted playing the Star Spangled Banner was so scary, I barely got through watching 2 minutes of it. Jimi Hendrix did the "standard" that is, of course, legend. He and his guitar were ONE. Steve Vai played reverantly, beautifully and memorably. It was scary when he tossed his guitar.......thank goodness a guitar tech caught it!

I can't get enough of the guitar masters!

Now to work with me!

DotheStu,

How was Santa Cruz? What were the highlights of your trip?

Eddie Van Halen and his hand surgery sounded a little scary to me. I have a ganglion cyst on my left middle finger at the joint nearest my fingernail that has needed a few treatments of Kennalog(sp?) injections. I hope it heals completely. I don't want surgery!
