WhammyFreak - Cool song...thanks for sharing it! I'm a Star Wars nerd as well, so it was fun to listen to. And this has nothing to do with your song, but listening to the clips makes remember how horrible I thought episodes II and III were...haha. ;-)

Keniko - Joe's deal with Ibanez allows him to play other guitars in a live setting if he wants to...he's a smart guy so I'd bet he has a similar deal with Peavey and amps.

Peavey was pretty peeved (sorry, haha) right after the switch was publicized...they cropped him out of photos and removed him from press releases on their website. But they've calmed down since then.

Thanks for your Davy Knowles comments...fair criticism. I liked him a lot on the Road Test tour, and I bought both of his CDs...I'm really looking forward to seeing him in a band this time as opposed to on his own.

bronxrunner9 - Cool find...I wonder if it is Joe's Hagstrom III (Hagstrom's Wikipedia page makes it sound like the Scandi and the III are the same guitar). I don't know enough about that make/model to know how many hundreds or thousands were produced. There's some neck joint damage that he would probably remember/recognize.

Does anyone here know what year Joe's was made?

Just catching up on a few posts, the Joe v Steve thing, i'm a massive fan of both, but Joe just shades it for me, some of Steve's stuff gets a bit weird for me, not that theres anything wrong with that its just a personal taste thing. That new dvd looks the part though. I remember thinking when i saw Malmsteen last year, i thought it was the best performance i'd ever seen, but i say that every time i see Joe or Steve or even Gary Moore, my point is who can choose? they're all quality of the highest order.

I'm sure most of you have already seen this, but I stumbled across it on youtube this morning and thought I would pass it along for those who haven't.

A cover of Neil Young's Cortez the Killer featuring Joe on guitar..

So cool to see Joe without his shades!

Enjoy!!

Catchup time... apologies if it's lengthy!

I forgot how cool Building the Church is live... saw it at G306. Love that track. Found this while checking out 'Church' vids

Girl shreds with Steve Vai on Answers

Is the Steve Vai Live at Astoria DVD worth a watch?

scubadaz - congrats & good vibes on the current interview. I don't mind trying more major setup adjustments on my cheapies but when it comes to the really nice guitars I get too chicken! switching to ducks, no idea why he needs a parachute, I hadn't analysed it lol

whammyfreak - hang on, order 66 isn't from star wars... because anything other than episodes 4-6 just isn't Star Wars ha ha ... just kidding! But not a major fan of Ep1, possibly Jar Jar related

Nice piece there!! Really cool

Slansh - I almost read that as 2500Gb drives LMAO. Prolly isn't gonna take you long to fill up the 2 500's though at a guess

Do The Stu - no doubt Sammy's tequilla helps keep his voice in shape ;-) Some great vids you've posted, and those drum clips!

Satch tracks I skip... woodstock jam, but NOT killer bee bop. For a long time I would forward Crushing Day, and almost always Hill of the Skull.

Isn't the JSX 50 already out?

You liked Star Wars Ep 1?

Michelle Cappy, Joe has a potty mouth sometimes too, and on the occasion he lets it rip, it's funny as hell. You have to remember...after a tour with Leslie West, Sammy is like a Girl Scout. lmao!! - that sounds spot on! Which do you prefer by the way, Steve or his Weiner (*chuckles quietly*)?

LMFAO that bulldog video!

Ethn Hayabusa - really (Joe swears in Reel Satriani)? I've obviously not paid attention - which section?

cosmic_ape - going to that school really is cool huh! Nice story, thanks for sharing. Who's due next on the star studded list of players?

GoldenGirl2 - thanks again for taking the time to check them out. I'll do some more soon, when time allows. Make sure & subscribe so you don't miss them ;-)

Keniko - nice review, and Joe obviously loved it. Great that you got to see that one. and.... "Yippie Ki Yea .... Fill in the Blanks..... " made me laugh hard. Haven't heard that for a while

Skippygirl - no probs at all, you'll have return mail shortly

Cheese - ah, the daffy game. I range from almost getting 10/10 to randomly screwing up. I don't think some of them are possible, but 5 minutes of fun and all that

Erm, the Chads pants podcast is one I'll skip!

Axeshredder - "in tune @7.50" ref the vai gear video. Intresting, how long before that becomes a common thing?

Fatape - oh f***, you've got the jig out again. I'm running... I haven't said anything out of place but I'm not losing any limbs while you flail away with that thing!

... right, what's the betting my formatting is way off and this post needs an edit??

~~ Sweet that he left his old pal Steven Adler play on his cd. Flea is also mentioned.

Velvet Revolver/ex-Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash has issued the following update::

“I don’t know how I’m supposed to wait until next year to put out [my recently completed solo] record It is so fucking cool and I am so anxious to get it out already. We start mixing soon and that will be that, ready to go. But I have to wait, there’s no way around it, for all kinds of logistic reasons and that’s the reality.

“My Velvet Revolver bandmates and I had a meeting a couple of weeks ago and although the search for a [new] singer will continue, I am going to tour on my solo record most likely through next summer starting in March or April. We Velvet Revolver will keep the word of mouth system going and listening to submissions from singers and checking out different singers’ sites etc. We know the right guy is out there somewhere. It’s possible somebody could turn up before I do my tour and we could start working on new material sooner than later, in a perfect world.

“As far as my tour is concerned, I have already started to put together ideas for a kick-ass band and the plan is to perform some new stuff, [Slash's] Snakepit, Velvet Revolver and Guns stuff. The new album is really great and deserves that I should support it. Plus, I’m really looking forward to getting out there and doing some gigs; it’s been more than a year since I was on a proper tour and all these one-off jams are basically just a tease.

“So, there’s the update for now. I’m still tinkering away on the solo record, but there really isn’t much left to do on it but mix it, which starts in September.”

Slash tracked his solo record with former Nine Inch Nails drummer Josh Freese and ex-Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney. Confirmed guest singers so far include Ozzy Osbourne and Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows. The CD was produced by Eric Valentine Good Charlotte, Queens Of The Stone Age and features additional appearances by ex-Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. Freese told MusicRadar.com that Iggy Pop, Fergie a.k.a. Stacy Ann Ferguson of the Black Eyed Peas and Chris Cornell Soundgarden, Audioslave will also appear on the LP. Working songtitles include “We’re All Gonna Die”, “These Last Words”, “Crucify The Dead” and “Beautiful, Dangerous”.

Slash left Guns N’ Roses in the mid-’90s, forming Slash’s Snakepit before later assembling Velvet Revolver with several other ex-members of Guns N’ Roses and Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland who was dismissed in April 2008.

Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

Trying to stop kids from running and bumping into me in the library can be hazardess to my job security. I put my hand or arm out to slow a kid down on Saturday while saying "Please walk!" He ran into my arm just as the librarian was watching. Big mistake. The librarian went over to me and told me the library could be liable for me touching a child. She said NEVER touch a child....it is totally against the rules.

THEN this morning my immediate supervisor talked to me about the incident and told me that if that ever happened again I would be terminated. This is so scary and my Steve is not happy at all. He told me to there will be dire consequence if I lose my job! Happy Monday, Milli!

I just want to cease to exist now.

scubz, who knew? lol! It was funny though.

Pip, I think you just like to use the word weiner. You could do what I do and occasionally sing the Oscar Mayer weiner song, or just go straight for the Dave Weiner WEINER chant. You could also buy a Dachshund, but if you get a puppy, everyone else's weiner will be bigger than yers. Some guys might point and laugh, but those babies are a chick magnet! lmao! I better stop before the moral police throw a hissy fit. LOL!

Woohoo: just purchased my backstage pack for universal city. Looks like i'm too late for backstage Berkeley though :(

So, Austin..... Up for a Roadtrip? :)

Anyone in sf and la willing to let me crash on your sofa/lounge/floor for a night?

Hey what's the deal with us and Canada only for some code? My confirmation said I'll get a code to redeem the pack but it's USA and Canada only? Anyone else encounter this? What's it mean? No magic 8-ball? "The future looks dim!"

Just a quick 15hr flight to USA to see chickenfoot, and then home again.

I can't wait!

turbo236 - That video has to be the most-posted YouTube clip here on T2J, at least in recent years. For good reason, of course...it's awesome.

I love what Joe plays from about 1:00 to 1:10...too bad the camera wasn't on him at the time. And the look on Grace's face at about 4:45 is nice too. ;-)

Pip55 - Yeah, Steve's Live At The Astoria DVD is worth getting. Shortly after it was recorded, Steve posted a note on his website saying he was unhappy with the way the footage turned out (lots of shots focusing on him from the shoulders up, instead of on the guitar, for example).

But I don't think the end result is that bad, and had he not said anything I wouldn't have known any better (if anything, I'd attribute the wackyness to Steve just being Steve).

He does have a bit of fun with the editing, but things never get too crazy. Here's Blue Powder from the DVD:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AVXax5AXOA

And I thought the JSX 50 didn't come out until later this year. Your link may suggest otherwise, but I did online searches at the major US websites (Guitar Center, Musician's Friend, and Music123) and nothing came up.

michelle - I'm really looking forward to Slash's new CD...thanks for the update. I don't know if the timing will work out, but I'd love to see him do a tour with Joe Perry (his solo CD should be out later this year).

Have you heard Slash's Snakepit? Scroll down on that page and you can listen to some samples. Good stuff...

I'm still working on the dinner question. I may end up with two parties (one music, one "other")...it's tricky because I'm trying to come up with a party where none of the guests have met.

Pip Satrini (again) / scubadaz - Yes, I liked the Phantom Menace...it's actually the only the prequel I've watched in full after seeing it in the theater. There are plenty of things I don't care for (Jar Jar Binks, and other things that seemed like pandering toward children), but I think it had fewer problems than episodes II and III.

As far as books go, I think The Truce At Bakura would make a good movie. I think that was the first expanded universe book that I read.

And Phil, yes, I think the seventh movie would be the cartoon. Unless scubadaz is talking about this, which would mean he REALLY hated Episode I.

roo - So is it just you making the trip now, and not the whole family? Or are they maybe staying in LA while you go up to Berkeley for Chickenfoot?

And about the code...is it linked to your Australia billing address at all? If not, maybe you can have the VIP package stuff shipped to me (or another T2Jer) who can give it to you once you're out here?

Who does the packs? I need to contact them to confirm I can get all the candy and how. Can you email me your postal address? I can then ask them to post to me c/o you.

Thanks mate!

Joe, I wanted to personally thank you and your management staff for the after show passes this past Friday night at your Chicago show. I truly appreciated you taking "YOUR TIME" and spending a few minutes to chat with us! It was an honor and a pleasure to be given the opportunity to meet you in such a setting! I can only hope that I have the chance to do it again in the future.

You are a true professional and nothing short of a class act! Your performances are ALWAYS the best around and there isn't anything that I can add that hasn't already been said about you and the rest of the boys Friday night in Chicago! Enjoy the rest of the tour and I can't wait for your next go round! Thanks again!

Austin-I loved NOTE when I was a child.I originally had it on a cassette that had Passion and Warfare on the other side.Whenever I would finish "Love Secrets", the tape would flip over and the opening chords to NOTE would begin. To this day, If I ever hear Love Secrets, I expect NOTE to play right after.

I think I just outgrew the album. The production is a pretty big turn off compared to modern recordings. It's not that I dislike the tunes, I still play Brother John on my guitar occasionally, and I do like the Dreaming #11 live versions of the songs.

The studio versions of "Hordes..." and "Memories" just sound silly compared to the D#11 versions. As far as Driving at Night and New Day, I don't dislike them, but I can go without listening to them.Just sort of dull.

Flavor Crystal 7 is a big no go for me.I dig the first solo, but other than that I pretty strongly dislike the tune.Other than that I can listen to that album all the time.
Speaking of NOTE kinda reminds me that around the time when I got into Joe, I didn't really listen to a large variety of music.

I pretty much only listened to Sufing, Flying, NOTE, Passion and Warfare by Vai, 5150 and 1984 by Van Halen, The Best of the Dregs, A Farewell to Kings by Rush, Apostrophe & One Size Fits All by Frank Zappa over and over again until I was like, 11-12.

There were a few other albums that I would listen to occasionally, but it was mainly those 10 albums over and over again.Mainly Joe and Vai at that time.Shoot, from 88-90 I probably only listened to Surfing and Flying,When I got Passion in 90 is when I got NOTE.Weird.

I myself was not a fan of the Vai Astoria DVD.

So-So setlist, obnoxious performance from Vai, and the reused shots were irritating. They only had like, 2 different shots of Macalpine soloing, and they would just reuse them.

The cutaways to Vai changing clothes while Donati soloed were just irritating.I really HATE what he does in Bad Horsie.I would probably be tempted to leave if I saw him do that at a show.I can't recall if he did that during the Real Illusions tour here in Seattle, but I probably went to the bar to get a drink if he did.

I understand Vai didn't have a lot of quality footage to work with, but I just didn't enjoy it.I think that DVD was the beginning of my losing interest in his playing.

Anyways, a lot of people liked it despite me whining about it, and my copy sold pretty fast online when I decided I didn't want it anymore.

axeshredderjc - The Yamaha Frank Gambale's signature model has something similar to Steve Vai's guitar, but only on the first two frets (more info here). I don't know how long that guitar has been around, but it's at least as old as 2002, when it appeared on the cover of the third GHS album (you can see one of the frets at the very top of the image). I remember there was a discussion here about that guitar when the album came out.

So the idea isn't new, but the extent that Steve Vai is utilizing it certainly is!

And I'm psyched about It Might Get Loud. I've known about it for a while (it's been finished for at least a year), so the waiting has been tough. There's a theater in Hollywood that's showing it at midnight Thursday night; that's probably when I'll go see it...cosmic_ape, I don't know if/when you have class on Fridays, but do you want to join me? Or any other T2Jers?

Ron44 - Enjoy the show! I've been lucky enough to see Joe in concert several times, but I still always get a kick out of looking around in the crowd to watch the facial expressions of all the first-timers.
Ethn Hayabusa - Wow, your first few CDs are much better than my first few were...haha. Good choices...

Michelle - if Dachshund puppies really are chick magnets you should patent that fast! The question about which do you prefer - Steve or Dave - was genuine. I think you mention Dave more than Steve so am assuming you dig his music more? Not least because he doesn't dress in a girly way?

Roo - cool news about your CF trip. Do those SWTA picture discs normally come with a 'proper' sleeve?

Do The Stu & Scubadaz - thanks for the info on Astoria.

For me, I prefer Ep 2 & 3 although they cram way too much in to 3. I can't find much reference to it, possibly a site edit, but there was a lot of info on Ep 7-9, some of which is towards the end of this link. The emporer staying alive idea is a bit 'thin' for me

Axeshredder - I just figured if Steve adopts it - the vid implied he was having it on all his guitars(?) - then it'll become main stream. But looking at it in close up from your link it's a bit freaky. Not sure how much you'd need to adapt to that! So I take it back... the FG version looks more sensible

That movie looks COOL!

Ok, just been looking at that Star Wars special... OMG! Harrison Ford - fail! Leia sings - plain wrong. Bobba Fett Cartoon There's even Mark Hamil inpersonating a carrot FFS
Anyway, back to normal service....
