A few random things:

Steven Tyler took a pretty nasty fall at an Aerosmith show in South Dakota last night. He slipped while walking out onto the catwalk...I think it was wet from rain. The band cancelled the rest of the show and he was airlifted to a hospital. He was conscious (no concussion), but he had to get stitches and may have broken his shoulder. Tomorrow's show in Winnipeg is cancelled. If you want to see the fall, click here (and go to about 0:50).

Some celebrity stalker people cornered Eddie Van Halen as he was leaving a restaurant in Hollywood the other day. You can see the video here. I don't believe him when he says rehearsals are under way, but it's nice to see him looking good. Bonus: The "Uh, OK, what IS this?" look on the face of Wolfie's date.

Also, the song list for the non-MA/SH version of Van Halen's Guitar Hero has been announced. Click here.

Some very cool John Bonham drum outtakes from In Through The Out Door can be heard here. My favorites are 14 (All My Love), 19 (Wearing And Tearing) and 22-23 (Fool In The Rain). I love that boomy bass drum!
Don1963 - Marching To Mars is a great album! Salvation On Sand Hill is one of my favorite SH tracks, and the title track is up there as well. Awesome...
Ethn Hayabusa - "I hadn't heard Joe swear until the Reel Satriani video"

I've sworn at Joe while watching Reel Satriani...usually it's around the part where he writes If effortlessly, in about half an hour. I'm sure I'm not the only one. ;-)

axeshredderjc - I try to get a shirt whenever I go to a show...there are some bands (Aerosmith, Dave Matthews Band, Dream Theater, Explosions In The Sky) where I have around 10 shirts each...but I'll save those details for another post.

I'd love to see a 70s baseball shirt, Chickenfoot style, with the design on this women's shirt.

I think I have around 10 Satch shirts as well. My favorites are the EOC shirt (this one I'm wearing in 2001), ITLIS?-era Tumble artwork shirt (the one I'm wearing on the PSATMOR bonus DVD), and the SWTA anniversary shirt. I also feel I need to mention the shirts he had on the G3 2007 tour (both the G3 shirts and his "solo" ones). They were very retro-looking and didn't have tags...I think they're the most comfortable of all my Satch shirts.

What about everyone else?

xteck - Listen to the album again, a little closer and with headphones on. You'll hear a lot of wah and other Satch-like things in your right ear. Joe is still "there"...

OMFG!! I could kiss you smack on the lips for that link! It's like Christmas!! It sounds so good in my speakers! I'd buy the entire Led Zeppelin library of drum tracks if they were available!

Listening to track 13 now - WOW! 11 was great too. Some are nice and long, and others are way to short. Ohh, 14 was good! lol! Thanks!!

As for Steven, it looks like his knee gave out and he couldn't catch himself. Poor dude. He's had such a sucky year.

Agghh, my husband just told me to turn it down! Bastid! lol! I'll play them again over the weekend when I can air it out properly. lol!

Conch - I'll send the wife out shopping, Joe can come round to my place if he wants to hear some quality swearing! Just so long as he plays a while.

Do the burgers - I stopped buying merch at gigs years ago. I took the Mrs to see Chris Rea some years ago and got a couple of rather expensive shirts and a programme (which itself cost almost as much as the latest CD). There was no support act, the band had a short break in the middle of the set, a 15 minute break before coming back for the encore, total actual playing time was only 45 minutes. Looking through the programme while waiting for the crush to subside after they finished I happened upon a little nugget from Chris himself, it said "Still not taking it for granted". I felt so disillusioned and short changed, a lot of my hard earned was gone with not a lot to show for it. The show was good while it lasted but it was too damned short.

Do the Stu - I was listening to Planet rock yesterday and they mentioned that supergroup..them Crooked Vultures...five minutes later I looked on here and you had already mentioned it....just goes to show...this is the place to hear it first LOL

Thanks for the congrats...but like you said ...bit of an odd word to use/thing to be happy about (for me I mean) ...but at the end of the day, it had to be sorted....all I wanted was a fair decision and that is what this is...after 25 years of marriage it is only right that things should be shared 50 50...you both put an equal amount of time money and effort into building up a house...the marriage is 50 50 therefore only right that things are shared that way if it all ends...and I know it was 55 45 in the end...but that was because i gave up my pension to look after the children, so it was to compensate for that, that I got slightly more.

Have a good weekend everyone....

In some ways I am a bit miffed that my ex is letting me in to get my things tomorrow...

I was quite looking forward to being a rebel and breaking in! lol

Oh well...maybe I could still do that for fun...especially if he doesn't let me take my cramps albums!!

Hugs Satriella xx

Looks like a cool new Steve Vai DVD, wouldn't mind adding it my collection.

But I only have one small problem.

"Considered the greatest guitar virtuoso of our time"...wtf?

What ever happened to the master-apprentice relationship here? Is Steve Vai turning to the "Dark Side."

I'm honestly shocked that he would allow that to be put on his DVD trailer. No offense toward Steve, he's an awesome guitarist, but he's got nothing on Joe.

There...my loyalties are stated, now allow my lynching to begin.

well, the clinic was awesome! I will write about it later when I come back from class...

yes, Eva Longoria is hot! But I still won't go to her overpriced place. There are plenty of those here in LA and hers doesn't come near my list.

There's nothing wrong with the restaurant itself, but it seems to me that this place is (and a lot of them located on Hollywood Blvd. are) more like a hangout for celebrities and a whole bunch of wannabes and has beens that don't necessarily care about food.

Well, I do care. And when I see a place that is full half the time because there is an audition going on somewhere near or because someone famous might be coming there in a minute, not only do I lose my appetite, but also my will and desire to go to such place.

It's bad enough people (and by people I mean snobs and the folks that work for them) here shove you to the side even when you are a paying customer. Call me old fashioned, but for me the main dish has always got to be the food. Being around famous people won't make my food taste better.

So, when the hype has declined I will pick a slow day of the week and go give it a try. If the food is so good (exceptional might be the word) that it would make me forget, or tolerate the stuff going on, then I'll decide whether or not is ok for me to spend my hard earned money of this kind of overpriced items...

Until then, I'll keep driving out of Hollywood to avoid this crazy people who make everything unenjoyable...

Joe - Hope all is going well with the new leg of the tour so far. Reviews are consistent - Chickenfoot is tearing it up! Can't wait to see you next week in Kansas. I have turned on a lot of folks at work to "The Foot". One buddy of mine just starting to play the guitar and I have talked so much about influences and how "Satriani" is the man! I know you are a pretty modest guy Joe, but the impact and motivation you give to guitar players huge! I have been playing for along time and have shown him things to start out with. It would be cool to be able to introduce you to this "new guitar player" next week in Kansas. We work and travel next together a lot and he is planning on coming to the show with me. We are both retired military guys who are still working for the service members of our country. Can't wait to see the look on his face when he see you perform live. Rock on and stay safe on the road! Give my best to the rest of "The Foot" - see you next week.

Skippygirl - Awesome...hope you had a good number day. Did you also remember to look for 7/8/09 10:11:12? :-)

michelle - "I could kiss you smack on the lips for that link!"

Woohoo! I got a kiss from someone last night, at least. ;-) (I'm not bummed or confused about the rest of my night, nooo...haha.)

Glad you enjoyed the clips.

cosmic_ape - I barely know who Eva Longoria is...it's a really nice feeling, actually. I know EVH lives in town, but I've never thought of running into him "here". That'd be pretty neat.

I've met a lot of my favorite famous people, but I've never had a run-in with one in an everyday situation...it'd be kinda cool, someday...

Hey, how was the Steve Vai class?

Cappy Steve - I buy a lot less merch now than I have in the past...some of the big numbers I mentioned are because I've seen bands several times (24 for Satch, 18 for DMB, etc.). I do find that I have more band shirts than I could ever possibly wear, though.

My plan is to find a friend that can sew and have her turn some of my older shirts into an awesome rock 'n' roll blanket...

Satriella - I hope Them Crooked Vultures works out well for JPJ...I'd love the chance to see him on tour. I didn't make an effort to see him on his 1999 solo tour...I still don't know why! :-/
WhammyFreak - There are a lot of people in hard rock/metal circles who consider Vai a much better guitarist than Satch.

I like Joe more, but when you look at their careers as a whole Vai's playing does have more variety. I don't consider him No. 1, but I understand how other people do.

Hawk Feather - Hi...welcome to the site! Have you ever seen Joe in concert? What other music are you into?
Listening to: Dream Theater - Images And Words (current song: Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle And The Sleeper)

US singer-songwriter Willy DeVille dies aged 55
PARIS — US singer songwriter Willy DeVille, who headed the 1970s New York punk group Mink DeVille before going solo and taking new directions, has died at the age of 55, his French tour organiser said Friday.

"Willy DeVille this night joined Edith Piaf, Jack Nitzsche and Johnny Thunders", said Caramba Spectacles, referring respectively to the French star who inspired him, to his producer, and to a fellow-70s punk guitarist.

His wife had announced in June that DeVille had pancreatic cancer.

DeVille in the late 70s played in New York's mythical CBGB club alongside the likes of Blondie or the Ramones with his first album Cabretta produced by Nitzsche, former arranger for Phil Spector.

His subsequent albums began to ooze romantic, with "Le Chat Bleu" recorded in part in Paris and inspired by his love of Piaf's music and of the French capital.

The next decade saw DeVille play soul, sometimes with a Latin touch, producing the European hit "Italian Shoes."

He moved to New Orleans in the 90s, where he also reappropriated the sounds of rhythm'n'blues, cajun and creole, and in 1992 produced a mariachi version of Jimi Hendrix reprise "Hey Joe", which became an international hit.

His last albums "Crow Jane Alley" and "Pistola", soul and blues with a Latin rhythm, symbolised his role in helping to define a new musical style sometimes known as Spanish-American. VIDEO

Scuba - Okay granted, so they are both on the Jedi council...but don't you consider Joe to be just a bit more "Yoda-ish" than Steve?

I mean come on....who are we kidding, after all, Joe has been at this for a whole year longer than Steve, and Steve will NEVER catch up!

And yes, Steve's music have a lot more variety, but I just don't get the same feeling from him as I do from Joe.

We Jedi instrumentalists do have a long and hard road to walk in life...

Do The Stu: Sorry it takes me so long to reply to a post. I'm around, have just had a lot on my plate lately. I would definitely be up for meeting some new folks while I am in Tahoe. I'm actually driving down by myself on Friday, spending the night in Winnemucca and continuing the trip Saturday morning.
I couldn't afford the rates for a room at Harvey's, so I am planning to stay across the state line at a place I can afford. I'll definitely be around Harvey's all day Saturday, though.

Austin-I have always been amused that people consider Vai to be a better guitarist.Joe is MUCH more accurate, and is a great improviser.I think all of the showmanship just blinds people.

But Vai is amazing when he is on.
