So I just went to the mall to buy one shirt and maybe a pair of pants, and ended up spending like $120 on all kinds of stuff...I haven't spent that much at a mall in years! What's happening to me?

And it's also a million degrees (OK, maybe just 100, but still) here in Long Beach...what's up with that?

Listening to: Dave Matthews Band - Two Step (09-11-99; East Rutherford, NJ)

Do the burgers - Seeing as you asked, I was taking my ship up the Mississippi and for vessels my size we are required to take a Pilot. Different stages of the river have different Pilot authorities. Annyhoo, on one of the stages I got talking to the Pilot about music, I know the the river quite well so I knew the expected track (which is slightly different to what one might expect by just looking at the chart (map) so we were reasonably relaxed, i've never known two and a half hours go so quickly as we chatted about bands we had seen, liked etc. A day and a half later when we had discharged and were on the way back down (going much quicker I might add) one of the relief Pilots brought me a package from the chap i'd been talking about music to. He'd burnt me five CD's, one of which was ITLIS. I've seen much about 'illegal' copying of music but out of the five CD's I was given I subsequently bought three originals and have since gone on to spend a lot of money on Joe CD's DVD's and seeing him live. Phew, all this typing has made me thirsty, BEER time!

Keniko: I've gotta go with you on the favorite here. I'm not going to pick a favorite or least favorite album, but my favorite song is Flying in a Blue Dream. Specifically the 1996 G3 CD version.

Before 2005, I had no idea who Joe Satriani was, until one day I stumbled across the FIABD G3 video on the internet one day and my jaw hit the floor! It has changed the way I listen to music ever since. Seeing that video made me want to play the guitar, so I went out and bought the nicest one I could afford at the time (which I am still using today), and anytime I feel like there is no hope, I watch Joe play that song and it picks me right back up again..

I could tell you today what my top 10 favorite Joe songs are, but they would be different tomorrow and every day after. They change depending on what mood I'm in or want to be in. For right now though, The Souls of Distortion is at the top of the media player list for most times played, followed by Is There Love in Space? and If I Could Fly.. I also have really been digging The Meaning of Love (Live Version) as well.

I thoroughly enjoy the fact that I never have to look for a reason to like Joe's music, it's always right there!. That's why I'm here!

Sorry for my usually huge post!

Thanks for all the hurrays on Chris's test results, u guys are the BEST!!! It's a huge relief fo' sho' :)

Now....lemme see if I can catch up cuz I left my brain on the east coast...

Happy belated birthday to yer lil mum and to Sully chelle, lol!! Didya get to celebrate at all together? Good that E was still home for it if so, and now she's back to school and settling in...lets hope fer no boo-boo lip pics this year :)

Austin, the Grand Canyon is incredibly beautiful. Did you find yourself talking in very hushed tones when u were standing there looking out over the canyon? That happened to us, it's so incredible u just feel like u shudn't be at all loud there! See any of the wildlife?

Now...I hafta tell this....I pulled a "Mckenna" on the AC trip...Joanie and I are already at the hotel a day early, and chelle and hubby drive over on Friday. We've been there exactly one day at that point and have tried our best to drive around scoping everything out, check out the HOB, the boardwalk, where to park, how to get to and from, etc...and we did take a wrong turn here or there but it all ended good.

So anyways....we're there in the parking lot of the hotel having just gotten back, and chelle calls saying they're lost and where the hell are we!! So I axe questions to find out where they are, and eventually talk them into the hotel parking lot.

I AM FROM THE WEST COAST, GIVING DIRECTIONS TO AN EAST COASTER HOW TO GET THERE!!! FFS!!! LOL!

So that's pulling a "Mckenna" cuz when we were all in San Fran last November, he'd flown all the way over from Ireland and ended up as our tour guide/bus and bart figgerer-outer and got us where we needed to be, lol!!!

My one shining moment :) Gads, so many other stories from the trip and hysterical moments.

At one point during the CF show, Sammy walked over to Joe and just stood there, really close to his face...then all of a sudden raised up the microphone and SCREAAAAAMED into it in very fine Sammy-style...he busted Joe up but good, lol!!

So many flying drumsticks...at one point Chad got that evil glint in his eye which always meant here comes another torpedo...and I started waving my hands and shaking my head and yelling NO NO NO NO!!! Laughing at him cuz dammit those things were LETHAL and so was the crowd when they dove for them!! Chad smiled and sent it another way, lol! Thank GAWD!

Joe dint break out his camcorder at the end of this show...and Sammy likes to come sit at the edge of the stage and sign autographs at the very end while Chad trashes his drum kit and Mike and Joe finish playing them out and try to stay outta the way. Such high energy and just a great BUZZ from beginning to end!!

Too bad it's over.....but we still have ChickenHOE to look forward to!! YEAH!!

turbo236 - I'm with you I can't for the life of me pick a favourite song or album. I do play ITLIS and SWTA more than the others but when I do play the others I fall in love with them again.

The last song I usually play on my way into work every morning is If I Could Fly. I can't help but bounce into the place with a big smile on my face.

I have playlists on the ipod - one is "Joe Love Songs", one is "Joe - Rockin" and One is "Dinner Music" for background when people are over and they can't take too much Satch.

Little party for Mr Skippy tomorrow night (1st party of 2 for his birthday) so will use "Dinner Music" then crank in "Rockin" later.

Keniko, after a half a glass of an extremely strong vodka & cranberry, I just read yer post to me -

"michelle ..... It could be worse. Could you imagine ..... Turning Straight...

How boring would that be? ...lol.... "

I was like...he's married to Cindy, right? lmmfao!!! Then I remembered it was a "Turning Left" response. lmao! Was he turning straight from turning gay? No, no, no. He was just Turning Left!! lol!

Um yeah...cheers! lol!

Do The Mall, yer changing man. I can see it. Yer drinking and spending money like a bitch. Are YOU turning left? ;-)

T-Bones, I feckin love you man! You and the massive one! We blame the black hippy dude in the GPS telling us to "turn left!" Wait...I see a pattern here! lmao!! That bastid had us runnin a muck! We WERE on the Black Horse Pike, but that dude took us the wrong way! lol! So, how many people were dead in that cemetery anyways? ALl of them! lol! In all seriouslessness, mah bitches knew NJ better than we did. lol! Hey, we're one state over in PA and hadn't been near AC in over 20 years! lol! As for the show - there were so many moments when Tracie & I looked at each other with our jaws dropped and our minds totally blown. I even grabbed her arm a few times and said "I can die now" lol! Not that I wanted to, but I'd be a happy mofo if I did. Joe making that face at Sammy was hilarious! One of the best moments of the show!

I think I told Joe I loved him at least 5 times at the after show. He's the best - hands down. With his own band, he friggin shines like no other. With Chickenfoot, wow! He's an entirely different entity! More laid back, but just as effin awesome as ever. He hits the holy fuckin shit riffs that just drop yer jaw to the floor in both bands. I guess it's just that he's more interactive with CF than when he's the boss. He's a rock star now. lol! WOOO!

Shit! My glass is empty. To refill or not to refill...that is the question...

Electric

or

Acoustic

Which do you prefer?

I think I prefer the electric. It's heavier and gives the tune a kick-ass feel and Joe really tears it up. The acoustic sounds more bluesy, but the double neck just kicked my ass. lol!

LOL!!!

Chelle, yer still seriously giddy, aintcha! I say a half empty glass is EMPTY and fill 'er up....and a completely empty glass is just a gad damn crime!! Have one fer me too whilst yer at it!

Oh yeah, I fergot that dude in yer GPS, damn!! I'm tellin ya I don't trust the bitches, LOL!!! In my experience, which idn't much I'll admit, they ain't never right! We tried to use J's on the way to San Fran and it had us goin back to freakin IOWA...and now yers was stickin u back on the Atlantic City Expressway tryin to make u's go back home before u even got there. F dat man!! Throw them things out and listen to yer cheese :)

Don, great show reviews and photos...it's easy to see in the one photo with Joe that our poor guy has a headache =| I wonder if Chad will be better now....sigh....most likely not. Now I can see a real reason why Joe should wear both a great big ole fuzzy wig AND his bucket hat on stage, GEEZ!

Pip, u shud consider ChickenHoe, or doing some Cali shows, u missed a great time! And just so's u know...I may or may not have the dreaded plane lurgy...I can feel it hovering, trying to get meh...but I'm doin the bob and weave, runnin right and left to escape....

Lol...I don't remember tellin Joe I love him, although I sho' nuff do, to pieces...but I remember telling him he makes us all so VERY happy :)

I remember that one point in the show when Joe was doin his thing and flingin his arm up and around and I nudged chelle to lookit him...and she sez something like "he's a gad damn ROCK STAR!" LOL! So true :)

What's goin' on here? A Blue Moon and a Black Moon? Next thing ya know there'll be a Green Moon and an Orange Moon and maybe even Purple. I don't wanna think about it.

I just want the youngin's to be satisfied and have good times and piss around like they're supposed to. I don't want anyone to get locked up like they do in this country. Where if you stub your toe it's a crime and ya end up in the slammer! I almost ended up in the slammer for having an emotional breakdown! This country isn't as tolerant as it used to be.

Do the Stu knows the rules of the 21st century better than I do.

Singing the Beatles, "I'm a Loser" and "Strawberry Fields forever". I heard the strawberries in the UK are better/sweeter than the ones grown in California. You decide.

Good night all.

Ugh...I can't believe how twisted some people are...this girl was taken not to far from where my parents live now:

Police: Sex offender, wife arrested in kidnap
Sheriff: Kidnap victim, children kept in backyard compound

One of the two Planet Us songs on Sammy's last solo album is about a situation like this (Peephole). I remember an interview (Rockline?) where Sammy said he wrote that song about a specific case, and was shocked that when he'd explain it to people they'd ask "Which one?" because it happens so often. Argh...

Cappy Steve - Thanks for the extra info...

"I've seen much about 'illegal' copying of music"

I don't think there's anything wrong with the way this happened with you. It's technically illegal, but it has been going on with cassette tapes for decades and the RIAA has never done anything about it because it's on such a small scale.

What really bugs me is when people who never buy CDs and constantly download things illegally bring up the "mix tape" argument to try to rationalize their theft. It's ridiculous how someone can think one-to-one copying in the past did the same damage that uploading a song to thousands and thousands of people does today.

If you didn't like a song back then, you probably taped over it. If you don't like a song today, you keep uploading it to others to keep your ratio up at whatever torrent site you're using.

Sorry for going off, but this has bugged me for nearly a decade now.

Keniko / turbo236 - I'm a bit tired of FIABD because it's one of the few songs I've heard at every single Satch show (along with Satch Boogie and Always...), but I think it is my favorite of all of Joe's "crowd-pleaser" songs.

I love the section from 2:38 to 3:08 on the studio version...this part of the song is always a concert highlight for me (especially when Joe strikes his MTV/rock star pose as he plays these chords).

And when I drum along to the song on my desk/steering wheel/whatever, I always find myself following the fills Jeff Campitelli does live instead of the simple part that's looped on the CD. So that has to be a sign that I love it, deep down.

cheese101 - It was a mix at the Grand Canyon. I do have to say it was AWESOME to talk loudly and hear your echo...so I did do that a bit. ;-)

I was very quiet on the hike, though...it was nice to stand still every once in a while and just let yourself be surrounded by everything.

Skippygirl - Can you post the tracklists of your Satch mix CDs, if it's not too much trouble?

I made some mix CDs of Joe's lighter stuff a few years ago (just after the release of SBM) so I could get away with playing Satch in the presence of people who would say "no" if they knew it was him. ;-)

michelle - You'll see what's changed once I post my Grand Canyon pictures...I'll get on that when I'm done here.

And I loved seeing Joe play the doubleneck, but based on what I've seen on YouTube I think I prefer the acoustic guitar for BBTW. I think the song sounds more dynamic, with the change from acoustic to electric.

OK, I've put my Grand Canyon photos up on my Facebook page.

Yes, I went out there with a girl.

Yes, it's the same girl I was up drinking with until 5 a.m. Friday night / Saturday morning.

Yes, we're going out on a date this Sunday.

No, I don't know how this happened to me.

If you leave any comments on Facebook, please be polite...we have a lot of mutual friends and I don't think (m)any of them know what's up. For that matter, I'm not sure we do yet, either.

Goodnight, everyone...

Cappy Steve: You are what you like! :) I usually don't like "programmed crap" either. I also don't like those musicians that play 1000 times the same tune and they sounds the same every time, regardless of being happy or sad, tired or energized. I like those temperamental musicians that let their state of mind transpire into what they are playing. I consider Joe to be one of those, of course! Luckily, the guy is most of the time in a good mood and full of stamina:)

Peace Lily: From my experience from other fans forums (and life in general), it is not always easy to show your different opinions and expect other people to respect them. It is good to know it is not the case here :)

Blue_Moon: I don't want to antagonize anyone :) That's why I try to be cautious when I'm stating here something less positive about any of JS' music. Luckily, that doesn't happen often.

Do The Stu: ("Rhythm" - could never write this properly at the first time!) EoC could never be considered a "band" record. And I think that's it: I prefer band records! :) Wouldn't you agree that those same songs on the SF DVD sound much more like "band" songs?

On the JS95 album you mentioned two songs that are some of my least favs. That only proves how much this stuff is subjective.

"Not Of This Earth" has lots of innovation in it and it's probably the most eclectic of JS' albums (oddly, I was already listening to it when I started reading these posts). It is not one of my favorites, but has lots of great songs in it (Rubina, Hords of Locusts, ...) And it sounds fresh, full of vitality, I cannot explain any better...

"I'm seeing DT on Saturday..." I saw them two months ago here in Lisbon, it was awesome!! Petrucci and Portnoy made quite a show that night. They didn't play many songs from the new album though (I can only remember one) Let me know how it went!

Igneousiceman: good to know someone understands me! :)

Cheers everyone, VP

Chee, I don't remember what I just read on here that just reminded me of our Thelma & Louise moment in the big red monster. Um....this is a dead end..dead end...DEAD END! and into the ocean we go. lol! Feckin's lead foot Louise. lmao!

The reason I don't remember who just said what on here is because I need a feckin Dramimine from looking at Austin's pictures!! Every time I look at Grand Canyon pics I sit waaaay back on my chair. That would not be a good vacation for someone like me who's afraid of heights. lol! I don't take drugs (much), but I'd be on every kind of anxiety pill I could get my hands on to do that trip. lol!

Austin, pics #10 & 34 made me say "wow" out loud. Pics # 19 and 20 made me wanna hurl a little. Oooh...the edge....step away from the edge.... My belly actually did a few flip flops. lol! Did I mention that would not be a good vacation for me. lol! My uncle showed me some of his pics from their trip to the GC in July. His pics were bigger...like I could fall in. lol! Anyways, I hope you and yer girl had a fantastic time. She looks lovely :-)

edit: Another thing I dig about Joe playing BBTW with his double neck is that he can move around and dance :-) Keep an eye on Chad behind Joe. Check how he twirls his sticks and does his little tricks. Man, what a killer show that was back in May!! The Road Test Tour kicked ass! The waiting in line sucked balls, but the show was awesome!
