I second that!
Skippy: sneaky tactics there, slipping a bit of Joe in there. I take note of that and now embark on getting my friends Satchified...without them knowing :)

Man, that jam was just insane...it's still floating around in my head.

That version of Beyond This Life was at least 30 minutes long...and no, I'm not exaggerating. They broke the song up in the middle (the same place it breaks on Live At Budokan for the jam there). MP did three drum duets, one with the drummer from each opening band. Then they all came out and played the kit together, along with ZPZ's percussionist.

And then Dweezil was introduced, and then MP said "The thing about playing LA is, you never know who is going to show up...I see another guitarist waiting in the wings...". The place just erupted as soon as MP said Steve Vai's name. It was a very, very cool moment.

Also, MP came out earlier in the night to jam on a song each with Bigelf and Zappa Plays Zappa.

I haven't said anything about them yet, but the first opening band was Scale The Summit and they were very cool. They do instrumental music with two guitars (and bass/drums)...I bet a lot of people here would like 'em.

Skippygirl - Subtle Satchification? Quite sneaky...I like it! You're missing You Saved My Life, though...I think that one would fit nicely.
Pip55 - Hahaha...I am in a lot of videos, aren't I?

I was a bit farther back at this show...about 5 rows behind the soundboard, dead center. The Greek Theatre in LA is my favorite outdoor venue, though...there's not a bad seat in the place.

You know, now that I think about it, every show I've seen at the Greek Theatre has had some sort special guest/jam element to it.

My shows at this venue:
- Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes (1999) (shameless plug)
- Dio / Deep Purple / The Scorpions (w/ Steve Morse jam) (2002)
- G3 (Satch / Vai / Malmsteen) (2003)
- Thin Lizzy / Satch (w/ John Sykes jam) / Deep Purple (w/ Satch jam) (2004)
- Blues Traveler / Collective Soul (separate jams w/ Hana Pestle and John Popper) / Live (2008)
- Experience Hendrix (tons of jams) (2008)
- Progressive Nation (all of the jams I just mentioned) (2009)

Not a bad list!

...Austin...

Catching up! Hey the Black Crowes are coming to El Paso, anyone here has seen them recently?? Are they still worth seeing???

Axeshredder: U know, I always used to say that cell phone cameras were horrible, until I found the Motorola Z3. All the pics in my Facebook albums were taken with it, and it does an excellent job methinks, but it definitely is not a good camera for low light situations (like concerts). So this Christmas I will be in the market for a good camera I can take into concerts. I absolutely hate Kodak cameras (whomever created Easy Share should be shot), but looking at these results I may have to reconsider.

Fatape: Very late but CHEERS!!! I posted that night and fell asleep, didn't even turn the laptop off. I gotta slow down with those soccer after-parties, gonna end up in jail one of these days...and u never want to be in a Juarez jail, ever!

Austin: So, what did your dad think of the b-day present DT gave him??!!!

Hey Joe if your out their I have a question. Since you legendary i think ill ask you. I showed my dad your music and he fell in love with it. well now my dad wants me to be the next cody satriani lol. so when ever i am just not feeling it, guitar wise, my dad gets mad at me because i dont want to play. somtimes i will go to play somthing awsome that i was playing the other day and i cant, and i get frustrated with my self. should i keep playing even when i am frustrated or is it better to just put it down and come back to it later.

Atlanta, stomped by the FOOT. Not since Sherman came through has Atlanta been stomped like that. The men were crying and the women were gettin' naked. My, g, g, generation. Thanks for keeping ROCK alive. How do those drums hold up every night? Oh Yeah!

jaja, good one there!

Guitarvibes: Wish you success on the now-required job search, and many thanks for the DT-related links, that DiMarzio video is very interesting.

And of course, Pip55: Many thanks for the LA jam link. That was totally insane!! Makes me even more eager to watch them on their next tour.

Joe: I noticed in the newest GP you were mentioned in the Jason Becker article. You played some of his written riffs for his latest album??!! Yea, baby. It musta been great to be of service for that project! Jason is such a insiration for Steven and I. I'm on the mend now so'os I can get back into playing and writing again. I'm going to have to put sections in each song from all I've learned from all the cool teachers (like you) over the years. Maybe a theme there........

Beautiful Day in San Fran yesterday with me older sister and Steve. We went to Lovejoys for lunch--great Mango tea and cucumber sandwiches, salads, scones with cream and strawberry jam. Petit fours and chocolate truffles to finish off. The tea is so yum and soothing. Steve said real men drink tea! He is the love of my life! And my sister is one of my best friends.

Joe--I hope your wife, son and your sisters and brother are doing well. I hope you are in excellent health. AND I hope Chad, the drum major aims his sticks away from you and runs 3 or 4 miles every day to settle down his heebee geebees! He needs a human size exercise wheel......sized way up from the hamster wheel! LOL!

elpp - Yes, the Black Crowes are still worth seeing. They played a week of shows at the Fillmore in SF last December. I saw the last three shows there...they played a completely different set each night, so I heard about 60 different songs.

They still JAM and it's awesome. Their newest album, Warpaint, is more laid back/acoustic than their other work, but they still play old stuff...everything balances nicely.

And my dad had a great time at the DT gig...at the moment Steve Vai is his favorite guitarist (lately he's been REALLY getting into his back catalog), so he loved it. And my dad was a drummer in high school / college, so he liked the drum solo part of the song too. Perfect...

BigBunny - Those are my three favorite albums as well...not bad. :-)
Listening to: Institute - Distort Yourself (current song: Ambulances)

This one of Gavin Rossdale's (Bush) short-lived side projects from 2005. Good music, if you like that kind of thing...
