I'm going to attempt to watch tonight's screening at the Bridge theater in LA. I got a Chickenfoot email last night that said the theater has changed to this one...I see a generic listing on the theater's website for the Chickenfoot thing, but it's not included on the day's schedule. Maybe that's just because tickets aren't available online? Another fustercluck... ;-)

I really do appreciate the extra effort that's being put into all things Chickenfoot (fan club, tons of podcasts, music videos, fan contests, and this movie thing), but some of them are so poorly organized that die-hard fans end up missing out.

I just called the theater and got someone's voicemail...I'll try again in a bit, I guess. I'll happily make the drive to see the screening, but I don't want to sit in an hour of rush hour traffic only to find out the movie isn't playing.

Well for those who make it to the movie have fun. Funny thing just happened, Triple M radio just called me cos I voted for Foxy Lady in their Top 100 rock songs thing online. The presenter wanted to record me introducing the song LMAO I'm surrounded by colleagues and I'm saying "this is Jimi Hendrix and Foxy Lady. Hmmmmmmm!" it was hilarious.

I called a different number and talked to someone else.

Apparently it is tonight, at 7:30, but he didn't know much information. He couldn't tell me if tickets are still available or not, but he said they're already starting to let people in. I guess I'll drive down there and see...argh.

He said something about needing to RSVP ahead of time...? I don't know.

Meh.

I guess the One Night Only is actually 2?...im sure it wasnt their intention to move the dates...i think it has more to do with Sony...i wrote them a letter to confirm and they replied like this:

Thank you for your inquiry. We just added the location on Wednesday prior to the holiday weekend, we will check with them to confirm why it is not available for advance sales. Our records indicate the location: Clearview/Chelsea Cinemas 260 W. 23rd St NY, NY

...whatever that meant...never followed up my guess is that Sony didnt even know that is was moved to wednesday .

CHICKENFOOT ROCKED MY WORLD!!!

Review Time:

The whole movie was excellent. They did their concert in Phoenix. They played every single song from their album (which I quietly jammed along with them). Joe was playing his Signature Chickenfoot guitars and JS 1000 or 1200 in Black. He also played acoustic when they all played Bitten By The Wolf. Joe was riffing it out with style. I also noticed (if you all knew) that Joe was also wearing (which I do believe it was) his wedding ring. One highlight to remember. Chad was playing those drums like a madman. Not only that, he was throwing sticks to the crowd, including a tambourine. Michael rocked on the Signature Chickenfoot bass, as well as the Jack Daniels bass guitar, which I thought was another highlight to see. Sammy was awesome with singing all the songs. Not only was the crowd getting into it, I was to (lip-syncing). They also gave an encore in which Sammy played some guitar/zither by himself at first and then the other three joined him. Joe was wearing a hooded robe like he was ready for a boxing match.

Overall, it was by far the best movie/gig I have seen in 2009. To those who weren't able to see it, I sincerely apologize to all of you. I wished everyone here could of seen it. Before I went in, I saw the poster for it, which was awesome. I asked what they will do with it because if they didn't want it, I would take it. After the whole thing, the Manager on Duty mentioned to me that someone had already asked about it, but he did write down my name & number if that person does not come forward. Therefore right now, I'm second in line. I ended up taking a picture of the poster on my phone; so I'm using that for my phone background. Priceless I tell ya.

I loved the movie and I would want to watch it again & again. I really hope that I get that Chickenfoot poster.

Peace Lily: You're wish is my command. Hope this review helps you & everyone out.

Do The Stu: Did you see it. If so, how much was yours? I had to pay $12.50 to see it. Kind of costly, don't ya think? However, It was well worth it.

Skippygirl: Should I do the Huff 50K, 10.8 Mile Loop, or neither? Chickenfoot down under, AYE!

To Everyone: To those who saw it, good for you. To those who didn't, I again apologize & hope this review helps.

Joe: I have to hand it to you. You killed it out there and it was all an awesome, baadaass show. Rock on Joe, Sammy, Michael, and Chad. I'll look forward for the next album, DVD, show. etc.

Well, time for bed. I have a job interview tomorrow morning at a Marriott hotel. Wish me the best everyone. Afterwards, running group; Woohoo! Nite everyone.

OH YEAH! CHICKENFOOT RULES!

Thanks Glitzy!!!!!!! Knew we could rely on you, so glad you enjoyed the movie sounds like a real rocker. Would have loved to see you singing all the songs.

Gosh I have no idea which race you should go for - on the one hand 50km is SUCH a long race I'm exhausted thinking about it, but hey, surely there wouldn't be many competitors right? So you have less competition haha.

The 10 miler is, what, 22km? Like a half-marathon? You seem to be pretty good at that distance too and have no trouble finishing in the top ten for your age.

Which one would be better for advancing your running career?

Axe - at least you get to see it tonight, 2nd time lucky!

Joe - you're probably in Vegas already, have a great time, sounds like the show will be huge and lots of fun, I hope T2Jer wins the video contest and shows us that fabulous guitar.

Glitz Man gave a lot of details about the show (the standard set, the album shuffled around minus Runnin' Out, and Bad Motor Scooter and My Generation as the encore), so I'll be more technical with my review...

There were A LOT of cameras used to film the show, so everything looks great. There was always a camera on everyone, so there aren't any awkward shots of Sammy when Joe is soloing or Mikey thumping away on 8th notes when Chad is playing a cool fill. Everyone is covered.

Joe probably got the most screen time...there are lots of closeups of his guitar, just like on his solo DVDs we're all used to. So we're good there. If I had one complaint it'd be that I don't think they showed enough Mikey...the camera is on him when he sings and during his few solo spots, but I wish they'd show him a bit more playing his bass riffs. But maybe that's just because I play bass.

Sammy's vocals were ON...so much so that I suspected they were overdubbed, but I noticed two spots (one in SOAR and one in FITP) where he flubbed lines. So it might just be a bit of Autotune.

The quality of the footage really is amazing...there are a few gimmicky shots (quick pans and zooms) that I think are just showing off what the fancy schmancy cameras can do, but that's only maybe 10 seconds spread across the 90-minute set so it's not distracting at all.

The mix was loud and good. The crowd isn't too present in the mix during the songs, so it didn't sound as "live" as other live releases, but that's fine. BBW's mix seemed very light on drums and heavy on bass guitar, but aside from that it was all good.

There are a lot of crowd shots, maybe a few too many in my opinion, but it's cool because everyone who was at the show will surely be able to find themselves. And as goofy as I think the Chickenfoot shirts are, with the huge logo, it's really cool to look at a sea of people wearing them in a darkened concert venue.

Everyone needs to buy the DVD when it's released...it'll be well worth it, trust me.

...Austin...

And here's another post, for details of the actual experience...

There were only maybe a dozen people there, including the Sony reps, which was really unfortunate. I wish more people had heard about it, but the last-minute theater change probably ruined some people's plans. There were showings in Fontana and Riverside that I hope were fairly full.

Two of the people in attendance were Chad Smith and (I assume) his wife. Before he walked in, I overheard a fan saying Chad was spotted outside, and Chad said he was there to see Planet 51. What a goofball, haha.

Chad sat in the row in front of me, which happened to be the front row of the stadium seating in the theater. He had his feet up on the railing for the whole movie, like a big kid. And between songs, when the onscreen audience was applauding, he'd lean back in his seat and give a polite golf clap...I thought that was hilarious.

He stepped out for a few minutes halfway through (bathroom break?) and instead of walking down the isle he just hopped over the railing...crazy guy.

I shook his hand at the end, and he did quick autographs/pictures for people. He would've stayed for longer but the person he was with (wife?) dragged him out a side door. ;-)

They handed out posters to everyone at the end of the screening. I grabbed an extra, since they had so many...I'd like to give it to someone here, but I haven't decided how to do that yet. It's the poster on the left side of this page...it's the standard movie promo poster size like you see displayed outside theaters, and it looks great.

That's all for now...

...Austin...
