Iron-clad feather-feet pounding the dust
An October's day, towards evening
Sweat embossed veins standing proud to the plough
Salt on a deep chest seasoning
Last of the line at an honest day's toil
Turning the deep sod under
Flint at the fetlock, chasing the bone
Flies at the nostrils plunder.
The Suffolk, the Clydesdale, the Percheron vie
with the Shire on his feathers floating
Hauling soft timber into the dusk
to bed on a warm straw coating.
Heavy Horses, move the land under me
Behind the plough gliding --- slipping and sliding free
Now you're down to the few
And there's no work to do
The tractor's on its way.
Let me find you a filly for your proud stallion seed
to keep the old line going.
And we'll stand you abreast at the back of the wood
behind the young trees growing
To hide you from eyes that mock at your girth,
and your eighteen hands at the shoulder
And one day when the oil barons have all dripped dry
and the nights are seen to draw colder
They'll beg for your strength, your gentle power
your noble grace and your bearing
And you'll strain once again to the sound of the gulls
in the wake of the deep plough, sharing.
Standing like tanks on the brow of the hill
Up into the cold wind facing
In stiff battle harness, chained to the world
Against the low sun racing
Bring me a wheel of oaken wood
A rein of polished leather
A Heavy Horse and a tumbling sky
Brewing heavy weather.
Bring a song for the evening
Clean brass to flash the dawn
across these acres glistening
like dew on a carpet lawn
In these dark towns folk lie sleeping
as the heavy horses thunder by
to wake the dying city
with the living horseman's cry
At once the old hands quicken ---
bring pick and wisp and curry comb ---
thrill to the sound of all
the heavy horses coming home.

P. Lily, sorry yer dad has to lose his arm. That stinks, but if it prolongs his life it'll all be worth it. Cancer changes lives forever - that's one sure thing in this life. I'm trying not to think about my pop's next appt. They found a polyp and he'll get the biopsy results then. Makes my belly giddy just thinking about it. ((hugs))
Happy news - this is my new baby! He's the one with the white face & feet. We'll be able to pick him up in 2 weeks :-) I can't wait! They're so friggin cute i could scream! lol! I want ALL of 'em! lol!

@skippygirl-what I find most interesting about this interview is, in the same segment, Joe mentions enjoying Coldplay's music and later in that part, the interviewer requests to hear If I Could Fly. It's shocking of what it came to be. How he was so unaware. How a famous artist such as Joe, is humble enough to enjoy a band like Coldplay, only to be ripped off by them. That's pretty messed up.

michelle: Love that lineup for YMC..they ooze the Beatles, and congrats on the kitty.... Is he or she going to be called "Portnoy"?!?! ;-)
Peace Lily: Sorry to hear the news, but Godspeed to you and your family, it had to be done, and now you all have more time.... I remember when my Mum-In-Law had her brain hemorrhage and I could only wish that I told her everything I wanted to while she was still coherent.... Take care, and again, Godspeed :-)

Salut Joe,

We won't be naming him Portnoy, but I actually thought about exactly that today in my list of names for him. lol! I was looking at a website that listed what people submitted for their cat names, and I swear to Bob one was "Home Perm". lmao!! My kids are in the living room right now throwing around names. lol! Everything from Thor to Vern. LOL!
Deb, turn up the volume really loud. This is for you.

Hey Joe, I just wanted to drop you a line to express my gratitude for the inspiration you provide. Your music is the soundtrack to my life. I'm training for an Ironman Triathlon and your music gets me pumped to push myself. I'm loving Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards, especially Wind in the Trees; although I've been a fan ever since Surfing with the Alien (bought it in '87 when I was 17 years old).
Many Regards,
Spencer
