Glitz Man gave a lot of details about the show (the standard set, the album shuffled around minus Runnin' Out, and Bad Motor Scooter and My Generation as the encore), so I'll be more technical with my review...

There were A LOT of cameras used to film the show, so everything looks great. There was always a camera on everyone, so there aren't any awkward shots of Sammy when Joe is soloing or Mikey thumping away on 8th notes when Chad is playing a cool fill. Everyone is covered.

Joe probably got the most screen time...there are lots of closeups of his guitar, just like on his solo DVDs we're all used to. So we're good there. If I had one complaint it'd be that I don't think they showed enough Mikey...the camera is on him when he sings and during his few solo spots, but I wish they'd show him a bit more playing his bass riffs. But maybe that's just because I play bass.

Sammy's vocals were ON...so much so that I suspected they were overdubbed, but I noticed two spots (one in SOAR and one in FITP) where he flubbed lines. So it might just be a bit of Autotune.

The quality of the footage really is amazing...there are a few gimmicky shots (quick pans and zooms) that I think are just showing off what the fancy schmancy cameras can do, but that's only maybe 10 seconds spread across the 90-minute set so it's not distracting at all.

The mix was loud and good. The crowd isn't too present in the mix during the songs, so it didn't sound as "live" as other live releases, but that's fine. BBW's mix seemed very light on drums and heavy on bass guitar, but aside from that it was all good.

There are a lot of crowd shots, maybe a few too many in my opinion, but it's cool because everyone who was at the show will surely be able to find themselves. And as goofy as I think the Chickenfoot shirts are, with the huge logo, it's really cool to look at a sea of people wearing them in a darkened concert venue.

Everyone needs to buy the DVD when it's released...it'll be well worth it, trust me.

And here's another post, for details of the actual experience...

There were only maybe a dozen people there, including the Sony reps, which was really unfortunate. I wish more people had heard about it, but the last-minute theater change probably ruined some people's plans. There were showings in Fontana and Riverside that I hope were fairly full.

Two of the people in attendance were Chad Smith and (I assume) his wife. Before he walked in, I overheard a fan saying Chad was spotted outside, and Chad said he was there to see Planet 51. What a goofball, haha.

Chad sat in the row in front of me, which happened to be the front row of the stadium seating in the theater. He had his feet up on the railing for the whole movie, like a big kid. And between songs, when the onscreen audience was applauding, he'd lean back in his seat and give a polite golf clap...I thought that was hilarious.

He stepped out for a few minutes halfway through (bathroom break?) and instead of walking down the isle he just hopped over the railing...crazy guy.

I shook his hand at the end, and he did quick autographs/pictures for people. He would've stayed for longer but the person he was with (wife?) dragged him out a side door. ;-)

They handed out posters to everyone at the end of the screening. I grabbed an extra, since they had so many...I'd like to give it to someone here, but I haven't decided how to do that yet. It's the poster on the left side of this page...it's the standard movie promo poster size like you see displayed outside theaters, and it looks great.

That's all for now...

...Austin...

Jeez... If I hear you talk about the video... I wish I was in America :( But then again... it ain't a surprise that the video was great. Are there any stores where you can buy the video? ( where they also ship them to Europe... )
Joe: First of all goodluck in Vegas! When will you tour in Europe? If you make it to Europe I'll definitely be there!

Do The Stu: Austin, thank you for your review. I know you're more of the expert than me. There was about 13 people seeing this movie here in Fort Wayne. You're looking for someone to give away that poster? If possible, I would like to be a potential candidate for that poster because I asked the manager on duty about the poster here, but I think it is reserved to someone else. Right now, they have my name down for the poster just in case if they have any extra or if the person does not come forward. If I don't get it here, then if possible, I am interested in the extra one you have (please).

Skippygirl: Glad my review helped. My mind is still full of Chickenfoot and I'm loving it. If I do one of these runs, not only will I stay focused, I'll also be having Chickenfoot in my head so I can also jam and feel more relaxed.

Chat with you all later; job interview today in a couple of hours. See ya!

Do The Stu - Austin, I'd love the poster, but I think Blue Moon, Mikesb or Guitarvibes would really really want it ;-b

So please put me on the list, but if you're struggling for how to give it away, I'll suggest sending it to Chrispy for someone who'll really really appreciate it

You'll wait for the release, then wait some more until it gets to yer part of the world, then you'll wait some more till yer good and tired of waiting, then you'll ask one of us to mail it to you cause you can't be arsed to go to town and get it. I'm on to you Mc.

Today's my daughter's 21st birthday :-) She'll be home for the weekend. Hopefully she'll be over her hangover by then. 21....gah!!

YAY! This just in - The Harley Davidson plant is staying in York, PA! They were going to move it to Tenn., but they voted to take major cuts in pay and benefits (they get paid VERY well) to keep the company in York. There's also going to be a huge cut in the work force. That all sucks, but at least some people get to keep their jobs - and Harley stays in York! HD

thanx for the reviews glitz and stu!!! i'm sure they would have had more people see it if they planned it a little better and had it more than one night.

happy b-day to your daughter michelle, is she gonna get drunk?

blue moon; congrats on your 5k posts! maybe Joe can send you a special guitar pick! 5k means either you are devoted to Joe's site or you spend too much time on Joe's site! just kidding! my wife has about 25k on Sammy's site!

speaking of the little mrs. she just finished putting up the vids for the Chickenfoot contest. it only took about 10 minutes after she put one up before the sad people who have to cheat to win hit it with a #1 rating. they first went and hit every vid with a #3 but i guess the temptation to hit the #1 was just too much. i really do hope that someone of authority is noticing what's happening there and totally disqualify this persons video! doesn't even matter if it's good or not, it's just the principle of it. can't stand people who are willing to put down or attack others so that they can come out on top! cheaters suck!!!

Ally, happy 5,000 posts, to which a quarter of them are in reference to a hangover. lmao! JK ;-)

Sano, welcome to the board, and thanks for the bday wishes for my daughter. Very nice of you to do that. Happy belated birthday to you! My son turned 18 in October.

Don, she prolly is, but she's not telling us. lol! She has to keep up her "good" reputation for her parents footing the school bill. lol! She says she's going out to the bar with her friends tonight, but she claims she has to make it to class tomorrow morning. I'll find out in a year or two how she celebrated. lol! I just want her to be safe... and not throw up on her shoes. lmao! There is a bar in walking distance to her apartment, and she says they all walk when they do bday celebrations. It's supposed to rain tonight, but when yer 21 and the night is done, it just makes for more fun! lol! Geez! What's going on? lol!
