tikimon : cool vid indeed..
but for a waking, i prefer that or that
well, just my kind of dawn mate.
& here my kind of dusk
Finally, the Gilmour playing is not really hard to understand : that's the rock prog guitar player comin from blues. He's unique. I personnally think he's the Leslie King. But that's subjective.
Don't want to talk anymore about Beck (Beck = the tone time's Scarlatti _ won't be on earth anymore to know if i was right or not).
Thinking sometime about Joe, i think about the musical aspect of his feedback. Scaring.

Other babling, i remember that once, Hendrix said : "Blues is easy to play but hard to feel"..
Born under a bad sign
I'm sure Roy Buchanan agreed
I need a coffee.

Edit : SRV has pushed the Hendrix tone to a genuine sheen.. Genius.
Are we all supposed to make sound a Strat like that? Nope.

tikimon : more awake now.. i've given a better check to Paul Gilbert vid. Nice Crunch the man gets there. & wonderfull energy. He rocks. But did you notice that his crunchy tone smothers with high speed? It has probably something to see with his pick up attack. No offense. The guy is great.
But check this : Alvin Lee
I know the technical high speed has serioulsy evolved since the Ten Years After times.. but shit.. Alvin Lee is always Crunchy.
& Is it necessary to talk here about the VH heavy speed Crunch? Fools
That's would be a better subject for the guitar players, than a subject like Van Halen vs Van Hagar, for sure.. or eddie vs sammy.. sad shit, sad shit.

Edit :This fuckin fish talk too much. After all, the story of electric tone is maybe nothing more than a dream connected to only one gesture
Isn't it?
Guitar tone can't be reduced to knowledge.
The physiological mystery of guitar tone for brain is fully cointained into an infinitesimal space between fingers & ears (with or without pick up).

It's very quite..
I guess i've to conclude about my fascination for Mr Gilmour around the question of the strat feel. Coz that's a big side of the Strat's story.
I think this video is perfectly clear about the point :
Mr Gilmour
The tone lesson really starts at 3:41.

Edit : If you miss the point, never mind.

My band had its debut performance last month. It went REALLY well. We were well received and were asked by the club owner to return this month. So, we are playing The Tonic Lounge in Portland, Oregon March 18. Show starts at 9PM and we are in the middle slot of 3 bands.
Also, I am in the studio tonight and Friday to finish up solos and vocals on the 3 song demo. Link to video of us in the studio
complete with me fumbling over the solo in Doomsday Girl.
Lastly, we are also playing the Portland Live Loud n Local show (April 29, 30 and May 1st). That's 3 days of hard rock and metal with the Friday show featuring 4 female fronted metal bands as part of the Hell Hath No Fury Tour. Gonna be a great show!! Check the website, FB, or Reverb Nation for details and tix.

zen, love mr. gilmore. i reckon he is one of the most underaprricated players due to no flash but that man is just soooo flipping smooth. i have always liked his style and phrasng. what can be said about mr. beck. just simply amazing. i have been fortunate to see him many times including a gig when i was really young while he was still in the yardbirds. you are dead on with where the tone starts. sometimes we ponder and complicate things. being a zenfish you know ya just gotta do it.
good going civ.
nice donkey. but have you heard trombone shorty? give that guy a quick listen. funk new orleans style.

Tikimon : The flash is Pink Floyd.. After the departure of the psychedelic genius Syd Barrett (one of the several schizophrenic victims of LSD), it has taken time to this band to find his high progressive way. The legend said that the band has thought to work with Jeff Beck, but renounced to this idea. So, Gilmour has brought the tone, the playing & the arrangements required for the construction of this band.. well, i think you know the point.
The glory of Mr Gilmour is contradictory. He's probably, out of the rock prog circle, the name the most familiar in the no musical world. Everybody knows Pink Floyd & Gilmour. Genesis is also a famous band.. but with his pop music era. Not with his rock prog era (Peter Gabriel). King Crimson, Soft Machine, Jetho Trull, Yes, Magma.. the big audience ignores everything about the rock prog magnitude of these names. Who does care about guitar's masters like Steve Hackett, Steve Howe, Robert Fripp? People who listen to rock prog or really care about history of guitar.
So, Gilmour is well-known, & at the same time, lot of people in guitar world miss the point. He's become a guitar master with a minimalist technical method. A guitar master, born with blues (guitar & voice), & at the highest level that a rock prog band could dream : to write the history of music.
He's magic. Simply magic. A perfect blue feel inside arms of Rock, with fingers & bottleneck.
He was flying in the blue dream long time before Ibanez era, while Roger Waters was creeping in the blue nightmare, finding lyrics & compositions.
That's their crossroad.
So..
I think that his unique masteria of the Leslie effect (His Leslie accomplishment goes far beyond Hendrix & SRV) has a lot of to see with his fingers, obviously, but also with his masteria of the silence (staying into the Strat babling, i can't imagine a Malmsteen style with a Leslie.. nope.. not enough silence, not enough space for the flying rotation.. that's would mean nothing).
Once more, Gilmour is the Leslie King.
Once more, his tone has no specific chronologic time.
That's not a 60's, a 70's, a 80's, a 90's, a 01's, a 10's tone.
That's a tone beyond the story of tone.
Here resides his guitar genius. Simple, & magic.
From the Meddle album, his tone gives to Pink Floyd its miraculous illusion of timelessness. This tone is the Dark Side of the Moon one. It's the Wall one. How could we not conclude that the man is a Master up the guitar sky?
________________________
Edit : hum, i've done a praise.
__________________________
Finally, Waters+Beck < Waters+Gilmour.
Any doubt
I don't know what god wants. I don't know if there's a god.
But the crossroad mystery is : Gilmour is the Pink Floyd guitar player & singer. It's done, with just the good chords, the good arrangements, & a pentatonic.

For me, it's impossible to properly 'get' Gilmour. He can just become one with his guitar. I saw him playing at an outdoors gig once and it started raining, as the rain got heavier the rest of the band ran for cover. Gilmour just carried on oblivious to all outside influences. Absolutely drenched with a mona lisa smile on his face, coulda been electrocuted FFS he was just gone with his music. Genius. Nutter as well probably!

deathcube~ right on dood! i'm glad you're diggin it!
whammy~ we have hard copies in the process of being pressed. as soon as I have some in my hands, I'll let ya know! I know what you mean about mp3's...it's super convenient but I still miss the excitment of running out to the record store to pick up my favorite artists new releases.
zenfish~ that's awesome to hear. we worked really hard on this record...recorded the bulk of it on a cheap protools rig and an avalon tube compressor in my g/fs garage. i couldn't be more pleased with the way it turned out given the circumstances and manner in which it was recorded.
chat is still down!!
