Two Shay;
In many parts of the world millions of people are dying in poverty from malnutrition, aids etc and the "big" countries (governments) are doing precious little to fix it. Basicly because they are not big producers of consumer goods. I have every sympathy for the Japanese people, some of whom count among my friends in what is a terrible time for them, but it doesn;t seem right to me to throw money at a rich country when millions are suffering on the 'dark continent' and other places on a far greater personal scale.
Are you talking about the stereotypical Africa ("dark continent") issue (which is the second biggest continent with 50+ countries and a population of about a billlion/1,000,000,000 people) as one of those places suffering with aids and malnutrition and that we should all help them first!? They have lots of volunteers and charities constantly there. It's just a MASSIVE SCALE. I see at least 3-4 commercials every single day about charities and donations to people in poverty including Africa... Remember Live aid!? There's charities and volunteers constantly there in many African countries still.
Africa has an abundance of natural resources that get shipped all around the world. One thing I seen recently was the Coltan and Colbalt mines in the Congo... Coltan is used in the manufacture of electronic capacitors and in consumer electronics products such as cell phones, dvd players, video game consoles and computers. Have a look around the room you are in there... The Congolese army and Militia are constantly in battle for control of these mines with threats of rape and murder for resistance.
The workers who mine manually have no idea where these resources go but they are sold for considerably more than they are paid, to large electronics producers for a fraction of the cost. Why isn't this brought to the attention of more people!? We know about the corporate companies using cheap labour but do we do anything about it? ...No, we buy a new pair of adidas trainers instead.
Just remember that the laptop you're reading this on and the phones you use on a daily basis, probably has blood on it.
Charity starts at home yes, but don't be ignorent to help people in need when a chaotic event happens. Snow is due in Japan, supplies are running out, the nuclear crisis is on an unpresidented scale and said to be in an apocalyptic state. Theres not many nations on the planet that could be so resilient and have some order during an event of this nature. The situation is getting worse.
Cop the f*ck on people.

Just to toss a half-cent of opinion in here, I agree that there are problems all over the world that need attention, home soil or foreign...my point is....we are all human beings regardless. We all share that one trait just like we share this planet and should care for one another through good times and bad. Each person has to decide for themselves what they can or can't do for others. Nationality shouldn't play into it. Humanity should.

Blue Moon - You miss some of my point but never mind. Billions spent on a war in Iraq, only one reason, the West wanted more control of their oil. No matter how bad it gets in Japan it is unlikely to get as bad as it is for many in Africa and other places. Africa does indeed have an abundance of natural resources and I do indeed understand the MASSIVE SCALE having been there and seen things first hand, not just on a TV commercial. Things like Live Aid no matter how laudable only scratch the surface, the G8 had a great chance a few years back to make a real change but the promises made to Tony Bliar got watered down. I'm not saying send all your money to Africa and not Japan. Over the years i've been to many countries there, working for money, as a volunteer and as a tourist. Things are very complex, for example i was once talking to a Nigerian about the state of the country (approaching bankruptcy) bearing in mind the massive oil and mineral wealth, the answer and I quote "A black man would rather see another black man fuck up his country rather than see a white man run it well" he was of course referring to the former colonial rulers. I've seen abject poverty in Vietnam and Thailand, places I believe you've visited but nobody seems to care. Even Venezuela, the massive oil wealth means they could make every single person a millionaire at the same time and it would hardly scratch the annual income, yet again, millions live in poverty. Sure, the Japanese are having a hard time of it and I wouldn't belittle that for a second. In your argument against what I wrote you said "Why isn't this brought to the attention of more people!?" that is exactly (amongst other problems) what I was trying to do. Mebbe I didn't do it very well.
Edit - Well said o cheesey one.

Hey Joe - I was reading your interview on Music Radar (good read) and you mentioned something about the fact that you listen to so much music. So I was thinking, what's a guy like joe prefer to listen to? What MP3 player and headphone setup do you prefer most when your chillin listening to music?
As for the Japan deal. If you can't donate money, just donate a prayer.

Hey everyone...just thought I'd say hello again. I know I've been quiet for a few months, but I've missed this place and I'm going to try to be more active.
I haven't seen many posts about Sammy's book yet...are people still reading? I finished it in one day (yeah, I had some free time, haha). I was surprised about the amount of detail he went into, considering the comments he made about cleaning up the road stories because of his children. The book isn't on the level of Aerosmith's Walk This Way or Motley Crue's The Dirt, but there's still a good deal of sex and drugs.
Anyway, more from me later...
...Austin...

Dear Joe,
My name is Nikolas, and I am an aspiring guitarist. I would like to know whether you would consider the prospect of taking on a student. I am a straight A student and have taken 10 years of classical piano at a Musical Conservatory, but guitar is my real passion. I am seriously thinking about pursuing music as a career, and I want the best teaching available. I have never taken private guitar lessons before, although I have taught myself. I am willing to do whatever you ask of a student, and am one of the people who enjoys working my technique, no matter how tedious the process. I know this is a bold approach, but I promise you it will not be a waste of your time, and I, again, am absolutely serious in my pursuit. Thank you for your time.
Nikolas

Hey Joe,
I just wanted to stop by and thank you. I have always wanted to play guitar, but in listening to your music, I've found quite an inspiration to actually pick up a guitar and learn. I started about a month ago and I practice every day. Your music, in particular, is very inspiring to me. I love the sound and emotion that you put into each and every piece that you play. Thanks again,
Daryl

Kayla - they sure are. I was thinking yesterday if it was me who had somehow managed to survive the tsunami (and my family) what would I do? There's no transport, power, food, water, heating or showers etc. There are some relief centres where people are sheltering but not much food or water and little sanitation.
I thought I would sift through the rubble and see if I could find running shoes that fit me, Mr. Skippy and the kids and I would just start walking out of there, just start walking on the road headed west away from the carnage (or south) and even if it took all day to walk 50km then I would be in another town or suburb by the end of the day and just see if a family could house us and we could presumably have a better chance at buying food, getting transport to friends etc.
I heard there are 550,000 people who need shelter and assistance. If they could move those people to other parts of Japan then maybe the world's biggest billet system to homes in Japan would be better than what they are putting up with now - snow FFS!

I posted this on Monday from what was given to the networks on Sunday night. This is what the authoritys wanted you to believe...
Japan's nuclear safety agency has said there is "no possibility" of a Chernobyl-style disaster at the Fukushima 1 plant, local media quotes national strategy minister Koichiro Genba as saying....
So much for that! Meltdown is happening and now there are little nuclear particles floating across t the US west coast...lying toerags..no surprise tho
Good post Michelle,Good on Marty Friedman, now theres a decent bloke!

Echelle : thx for JB's link. In fact, i don't know why Beck says that he has not modified the Strat. Coz he has. He has worked onto the elaboration of new single coil pickups set, has changed the top nut for a better used of the tremolo arm (it's built with small marbles to reduce the strings' friction), and his Strat gets tuning keys with blocking clockwork.
I also bet that his maëstra of the feedback required a specific wiring & shield, that a simple standard one doesn't get. I've got once a strat JB signature inside the hands. My statment is this one : signature series guitars are not the original model. They often get out of an industrial process, while the original guitars are between the hands of some personnal guitar tech.. the man behind the man, or the man inside the man..
Matt King : yeap, i know what you mean.. i personnaly get a very basic home studio.
Roy : Sure Sciences get a huge importance for our human life. But their crossroad is outrageous. Scientism is not for me. Old myths are too old for me. & relativism becomes absurd when it's the absolute space. So what? Music. Yeap. Music.

Zen:Science is fine so long as theorys are allowed to grow and evolve. Its when we take theorys as the truth we stagnate and die.One look at whats unfolding in Japan confirms that, we have clean technology, new science that would resolve all 3rd world energy problems, greed to control power geo-politically is far more important to the wealthy that saving a few million starving africans... i mean...pick a country

Roy : Behind every Sciences is one prob : the research financing, more interested by economic exploitation of the result, than by the result itself.
Japan? "They" are one of the more seismic country. Maybe the most. & "they" are one of the more nuclear country. I'm so sorry for all this poor people. But the current prob, the nuclear one, that concerns all the earth, now, & all the countries, is not the result of the seism. It's the result of their nuclear politic, despite of their geologic knowledge.
You know what, we get 3 nuclear reactors (14 reactors exactly) here, in France, at around 30 miles of my home. At around 400 miles of Barcelone. The 3 built over a seismic fault. So what?
Humanity is chasing his downfall. Oh, yeah, there's serious reasons to get the Blues.
